Folding Retractable Blade Utility Knife with 3 Blades, 0-10-825

I recently used the STANLEY FATMAX Retractable Folding Utility Knife to fit a new carpet, and I couldn’t be more pleased with its performance. This knife is incredibly sturdy, made from metal, which gives it a solid, durable feel in hand. It cut through thick carpet with ease. You can tell it's built to last and handle demanding jobs. One of my favorite features is that it folds up into a compact size, making it easy to carry around in my pocket. The folding mechanism works smoothly, and once closed, it’s safe and secure. The retractable blade adds an extra layer of safety, and the built-in blade storage in the handle is super convenient, especially when you need to switch blades quickly on the job. Another bonus is the bright yellow design – it makes it easy to spot in a busy workspace, so you’re not constantly hunting around for your knife. This is such a simple but thoughtful touch, and it’s been a real time-saver for me. If you’re looking for a strong, reliable, and compact utility knife, this one is fantastic. Excellent bit of kit, perfect tool…

Easy blade change, easy use and definitely cheaper than the high streets. The knife feels solid in the hand, folds away safely and the instant blade‑change mechanism actually works properly — no fiddling or fighting with it. It’s compact but still has a good weight to it, and the grip makes it comfortable for longer jobs. Folds down small enough to keep in a pocket or tool bag without taking up space. For the price, it’s great value — sturdy, practical and one of the better folding utility knives for everyday DIY or work use.

The knife arrived as expected and on initial viewing looks good quality. However as others have noted, getting the knife out of the Stanley packaging is not easy and needed scissors to release the card and allow it to be removed. Inserting the blade also seems a little clunky and may possibly a cause of cuts but time will tell.

Great sharp knife, folds smaller and holds spare or used blades until you can dispose of them. Great value.

Needs better instructions

Like some other customers, I bought this knife mainly because it was a well known brand Stanley and it had been bought by over 6.900 people - which I am sceptical about as I have had the same problem most customer reviews. Packaging - very difficult to remove the knife from all the packaging and the cardboard became stuck inside the knife taking some time to remove. Attaching the Blade - almost impossible due to the ‘red button’ not depressing fully and the blade wasn’t catching in the inside to enable it to lock firmly. I looked at the video Stanley kindly provided and still couldn’t fix the blade in securely. It was only after reading other customer reviews that I noticed someone had said you must depress the red button fully into the knife - well that was almost impossible to as I found it difficult yo concentrate holding the knife with one hand trying to depress the red button even further than I previously tried to, whilst precariously trying to slide an open blade into the knife which just kept falling out. In the end I had to lie the knife down on a hard surface, with one hand whilst depressing the red button fully into the knife with a HOUSE KEY and using my left hand eventually slotted the blade fully into the knife which on releasing the red button held it secure - very dangerous as I could easily have badly cut myself and my husband was not pleased that I tried to persist rather than return the knife. Folding the knife - again like some other customers, this knife just wouldn’t fold - it didn’t even budge. I then read other reviews and a customer said this was due to the knife not sliding into the catch properly and you coukd resolve this by holding down the metal plate - which I did and after over an hour (and I mean well over), the knife was removed from the package, blade inserted and folded away… In short, I wouldn’t buy this knife again and I do think this well known brand Stanley should really look at the design - even if it was only a few custimer feed back reviews over the design issues, they should be rectified before someone seriously cuts themselves. Not sure that I will ever hear from the company, which again will solidify my decision on what future products I buy if Stanley appear to have the same selection.
