does it detect motion: yes, can it easily be set up with other smart home devices: it has to be... it will only send a ding notification if its not configured with other products. the construction seems to hefty, but the mounting system a small, like finish nail small, its impractical. My guess is this is designed for sitting on the mantel to turn on your Christmas tree lights. Was hoping for a more robust security system like. I really wanted a device that I could customize notifications motion is detected, sound alarm, vibrate devices, best I can do is a bunch of clonky work arounds. it boast a 120 degree Field of View. would be great if a marker was embossed on the top to show that angle. (can I figure it out: sure, but for the price point I was expecting a well thought out product). seems like it was rushed to market to be a threads first.

***** Updated review - Problem resolved - Sensors now pairing after identifying issue and changing router setting After spending another frustrating day trying to get these sensors working I found a document on the internet indicating that devices using the Matter standard require that IPv6 be enabled on the router. I have an Orbi mesh router so I logged into it and found that IPv6 is disabled by default. I enabled IPv6 and was immediately able to easily pair the Eve Motion sensors. I passed this information to the Eve support team and suggested they should make this information available in their documentation and on their support website since other people are experiencing the same issue based on the 1 and 2 star reviews that I read. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars now that I have resolved the issue and the sensors are working perfectly. I am taking off one star because basic troubleshooting information to resolve issues like this should be available on Eve’s website. I've been trying to find a highly reliable motion sensor that could be used outdoors under my eves for lighting control. They would replace my outdated Z-Wave system that has been in use approximately 15 years. I would use them with Apple Home. The Eve Motion sensors seemed perfect and there were lots of good reviews so I purchased three of them. They arrived the next day. I use a 4K Apple TV running the latest tvOS as my hub so according to the instructions I shouldn't have any problems pairing the motion sensors to my Apple Home using my iPad or iPhone which also had the latest version of iOS installed. Sadly things didn't go smoothly. Despite factory resetting the sensors, installing new batteries, modifying my WiFi network, restarting all of my devices, changing network settings, and using every possible suggestion found on the web I never successfully paired any of the three motion sensors. In each case the dreaded "Unable to Add Accessory" message would appear, sometimes after several minutes with hopefully messages such as 'connecting' and then 'setting up.' Even worse, there doesn't appear to be any way to get reasonably fast customer support from Eve. After much frustration I am returning these sensors to Amazon and will look for other solutions that work. Before purchasing these sensors do yourself a favor and read some of the 1 and 2 star reviews. Had I done so before making my purchase I probably could have avoided wasting six hours of my day and a great deal of frustration. Hopefully someday Eve will acknowledge and resolve the issue to that I can once again purchase their products. Until then I am going to wait until the issues are resolved.

Wanted a motion sensor in the hallway to be able to automatically turn on the hallway light . It respond very fast and was able to use it to turn on the Nanoleaf bulb I put in the hallway stairs light. I was able to program it in the Eve app to automatically go on only after sunset and when motion is detected. Only issue that I had was that there is no setting in the Eve app that allows you to turn off the light after a certain period of time like after it is turned on. I contacted Eve support and they responded saying that you can setup another rule to detect when the motion is clear and then turn off the light. However, it would be nice if they had a time option. If I use the Apple Home automation, in there I can setup a time to turn off the light after period of time. So I ended up using Apple’s automation to turn off the light as opposed to using the motion clear option in the Eve app.

The motion detection is very hit and miss. They detect motion most of the time, but they don't often enough that I'd classify them as "unreliable." I also have Wyze motion detectors that are much cheaper and more reliable. I only purchased the Eves because they're HomeKit compatible. They also seem to battery intensive. The Eve and Wyze sensors are on the same walk path (but in different rooms) and I haven't had to replace the batteries in the Wyze for a couple of years. I need to replace the Eves every few months. Also, each sensor shows up as two devices in the Alexa app, causing confusion and making routine creation a bit trial-and-error.
