Came in an Envelope the Size of a Buick
This will fit in your palm. Very small and a bit fragile looking, but works perfectly. I'm using it to attenuate the (too loud) fixed volume output from an LED TV. The knurled dial only reduces volume; will not increase it. It's inconvenient that it must be controlled near the output (at the back of the TV) but once it's set for whatever program I'm watching, I don't have to touch it again. Time will tell how reliable it is, but for now it's doing it's job properly allowing bright clear sound to pass with no static, dropouts, or other annoyances.

Stellar Labs Inline Volume Control for 3.5MM Headphones,Black
Stellar Labs Inline Volume Control for 3.5MM Headphones,Black Works good as expected. My bluetooth broke on my headphones and this allowed me to plug my headphones into the TV and adjust the volume.

Good but delicate
I got this to use with my "JVC HAS160R Flat Headphones" purchased here from Amazon while listening on my laptop. It works well and being able to adjust the volume without reaching for the mouse every time the video volume changes is a relief. My only complaint is not really a complaint but as a cautionary observation: This adapter is very lightweight construction. The wire is somewhere in the 22-24 gauge range and the little wheel control is so thin it's difficult to hold except between the tips of two fingers, using my thumb tip to roll the wheel control. At least for me anyway. The construction looks good for what it is; the wheel control housing is made of hard plastic and the wire entering and exiting it are molded into the housing. Just that this adapter is so dainty looking as to make long term longevity questionable. However, it does work well and for the price it would be worth it to buy and maybe just replace when needed as long as it doesn't happen too often. For now I'm giving it three stars but would actually give it 3.5 stars if it were possible. Update June 2020: I still use this 4-5 times a week now on my home laptop and usually for 1-2 hours each time and this little adapter works as good now as when I first got it 11 months ago! I like it so much I upgraded the stars and got another one to use exclusively for travel when I use my Fire 10 tablet. I do handle them gently and may order a third one to have as a spare.

Perfect for Game Boy Micro
I own a Game Boy Micro and Everdrive, which is amazing until you want to play using headphones. And that's basically everywhere except home. I was faced with an awful buzzing sound due to the hardware. I tried a 3.5mm impedance adapter, but it didn't do much especially since the Everdrive draws even more power. I later discovered inline volume control and am happy to report it works perfectly! After adjusting the source volume and this unit's own controls, the buzzing is gone and I can finally use my headphones as intended. I'm also able to use Airpods via by connecting this to an Airfly. That sounds complicated considering four devices are in the mix, but I'm just happy to finally play GBA games on a plane with sound.

Just what I needed.
I play in a rock band and use in ear monitors. The IEM unit I plug my Shure ear phones into at gigs was too loud. Even with the volume pots close to zero it was too loud. So I needed a way to attenuate the volume to make the IEMs usable. This little volume knob inline between the module and my ear phones works great. I can lower the volume to just the right level and makes using the IEMs much more enjoyable for me. I notice no degradation in sound quality. I just got these so time will tell how long they last. As you can see I put some black electrical tape around the connection points as a precautionary measure. This has proven valuable in the past for other wires and cables. This wire is pretty thin so let’s see how long it lasts. Can’t beat the price. Hopefully I won’t be reporting back any problems in the future. For the price I might buy another one as a backup. So far so good.

Good design but thin wire
APPLICATION: I got this because the volume on my Tascam MP-BT1 broke and is stuck on FULL volume! I'm sure I've damaged my hearing with that thing. I recently got the Shure SE215-CL Sound Isolating Earphones but they are just way too loud to use with the Tascam (the Shures are louder than the headphones I had been using with it). Well, that's the perception of the sound. The reality is that the Shures push more midrange and high-midrange frequencies than my other headphones so they're a bit more painful to listen to at full volume. Anyway...So I needed a way to lower the volume. This definitely does the trick. In fact, it can lower the volume 100%, thus, muting it. As you have probably experienced on cheap radios, sometimes the lowest volume setting still lets some sound bleed through. That does NOT happen with this volume control and I'm super happy about that! CONSTRUCTION: The overall length is 11" with the middle of the volume dial neatly centered at 5.5" The size the dial and the housing is just over 0.5" diameter. The length of the dial housing along the cable is just about 1.375" so if you have larger hands you may find the dial to be small. The male TRS pin and the female TRS jack seem to be accurately sized to the standard. They fit snugly with the other cables and jacks I have mated them with. My one concern with this item is that the wire used seems pretty thin compared to the wire on my other 3.5mm TRS cables. You wouldn't think that would be a concern since this is only 11" long but I expect to take this cable "on the go" and maybe even give it some limited use on-stage. I'd have preferred to see a more stout wire used for this but at this time, I haven't had any issues so I really can't call the cable gauge a fault or "defect". This is not designed with repair in mind. You cannot open the dial housing or the housing around the couplings so once this falls apart, you can't get inside and re-solder it yourself. You have to just toss it out and buy a replacement. MATERIALS: Well honestly, as electronic products go, I put this in the same quality level as some of the older Sony stuff I had in the 90's. This seems to be made of cheaper quality components. With frequent use, over time, I won't be surprised if the volume pot becomes loose and unreliable. I suspect that before that happens, the wire itself will break and begin giving intermittent signal. With a reasonable amount of caution, I think this will last a few years. The biggest danger I see with a wire this thin is snagging. Remember the old headphones and earbuds we used to use with our Sony Walkman? Remember when you'd snag that headphone wire on something only once or twice and you'd lose the sound in one ear or the other? This item is the same quality. I expect one or two good tugs on this wire and you'll break it. The connectors are not gold plated which is good because more often than not, the effect of gold plating on connectors like this is an overrated myth. Gold plating drives up the cost of electronics and usually has little effect on sound quality (at least in applications such as this product). So they didn't bother with the gold plating on here. IMPRESSION: Yes, I'd recommend this. The price is a bit high for the quality, though. Sure you can find other cables like this and some are much longer (e.g. 10') too, but this one is small enough to use "on the go" and it fully mutes when turned all the way down. With gentle handling, this should last for years.

I was happy to see that it works well with my new headphones. Wish the cord was longer. As for the volume control I found that it rotates too easily.

I ordered an inline Volume Control but what arrived was a glass replacement for an Iphone. I sent it back to Amazon. Am now somewhat reluctant to make other Amazon purchases although the inline Volume control is what I need. Not happy.
