An exceptional tape measure for the price.
This is an exceptional tape measure for the price and has become my โgo-toโ tape measure. The qualities that I like the most are (1) itโs size (itโs very compact) and (2) the easy to read measurementsโฆon both sides of the tape. But the thing that sets it apart for me is the writeable โpadโ on the side. Why doesnโt every tape measure have this? I especially appreciate this as Iโve gotten older and can jot down 2 or 3 measurements that I will surely forget by the time I get back to my shop or saw. The pencil sharpener is also a nice little extra. Itโs also a well made product and does not feel cheap. If I walked into a big box store and saw this I would expect to pay more than the other 16โ tapes on the shelf, but it is in fact less expensive (on Amazon). No hesitancy in recommending.

Best tape measure ever?
I use a tape measure near daily. I'm restoring an old house almost entirely myself and I woodwork as a hobby. Measuring is kind of important. For 25 years a Stanley Fatmax 25' was my go to. I have had others along the way, but they would break, get lost or just get pushed to the side as I went back to my Stanley. But now that I'm in my late 40s and I don't see as well up close as I used to it's getting harder and harder to read measurements. The dashes all start to look the same after a while. So I went looking for something easier to read. Enter this FastCap 16' tape measure. First of all, I can't remember the last time I needed to measure anything longer then 16 feet. Maybe doing some work outside when I lay a new walkway or when I start rebuilding our 40' front porch, but I have a 100' roll for those kinds of things too. Carrying a 16' measure on my means it's smaller and lighter. Not a huge deal, but I have already noticed the reduced bulkiness on my belt and I don't miss the extra 9 feet. But back to the reason I chose this tape measure: visibility. This thing is so easy to read. The dashes are thin and clearly marked down the to 16th of an inch, with the 16ths in red. In fact, it's so easy to read that I'm confident I could use this to estimate to a 32nd of an inch even though that's not marked. The tape and real are also incredibly smooth. It's been a while since I've bought a new tape measure, but I don't remember any of them being this fluid even when brand new. It's weirdly satisfying to use it for that tactile feeling alone. I love that is has a second lock on the bottom that will hold as long as the button is depressed, and it realeases as you let go rather than only relying on the main lock that you have to push down and lock. It's great to have both options. The erasable surface is great for writing down quick measurements. What a clever feature! And another bonus is the pencil sharpener. I ususally use a mechanical pencil so I probably won't take advantage of this feature too much, but I'm sure plenty of you out there use a Ticonderoga #2 and it will come in handy for you. The kicked on top of all of these features that make this my favorite tape measure of all time, it's also one of the cheapest legit options you can find on Amazon. I think I might buy a couple of spares in case FastCap realizes what they have here and decides to double the price (I'd still payt it).

Far Better Quality and Features than I Expected, Great Buy!
At the price and the fact, I got 2 of them I assumed they would be cheaply made. I was dead wrong, these are some of the best quality tape measures I have ever bought, sturdy design, proven by them both getting dropped by my kids within minutes of opening them. They have a good weight a nice thumb tab to open the belt clip for easy on off action, a sturdy tape black and red markings for an easier visual indicator, and one thing I was surprised to find is it has a pencil sharpener built in. And it is a good one too, creating razor sharp tips for precise marks. I had always used contractor pencils, but they are awkward to sharpen, have way too thick of a lead, and are hard to erase, plus they have no eraser. So now that I do more fine woodwork, I use a normal #2 or a marking knife followed by a #2 to make it more defined. So, this built in sharpener is a wonderful addition.

Initial Impressions: Quality Item
Have had possession of this item for right at one month. Spring mechanism is strong. Belt latch mechanism is strong and has a push tab to aid in attaching and releasing from your belt. The thumb latch is a bit stiff, but I assume it will slide easier with more use. This tape also has a pinching mechanism on the bottom that allows tape to be held in extended position, and then released, by a single finger. Very convenient. Tape feels like it has a fairly heavy protective coating (Teflon?). Tape slides in and out easily. I bought this particular tape for woodworking. I like that it is readable from left or right, and markings are denoted down to a sixteenth. From a flat level surface, 57โ above floor, I was able to extend tape to an unsupported length of 91โ. Did not get to 92โ before tape โbrokeโ. Adequate for my needs. I will not attempt to speak to measuring accuracy, as I would only be making a comparison to one of my many other tapes. The one minor complaint I have is in the notation of the markings at each foot. Those markings do not stand out. But for woodworking this will be fine. For other needs, where I want to read feet, I may go to another tape measure. If any issues with durability, I will try to provide updates.

Great except foot markings are in tiny print, difficult to read for this 72-year-old wood worker.
(I purchased the 16-foot Pro Carpenter Standard Reverse version PSSR-16). I like this tape measure, different than any of my other tape measures. When it comes to reading inches, the layout is very clear and easy to read. I gave it 4 stars because the feet markers are indicated by very small triangles that are difficult to read. The measure has red rectangular readiings every 16-inches, good for carpenters and builders marking off 2x4 studs. I wish they had a version that used clear red-rectangular markings for feet instead of 16" stud intervals. As a 72-year old wood worker, I can no longer see tiny numbers/letters so that's why this matters to me - this may not be an issue if you're young with good eyesight! I also like the additional features such as the way you clamp this to your belt, the ability to make notes right on the outside of the measure, and the positive lock feature. They also have a 25-foot version as well as a classic rule which looks like 99% of other tape measures (which I might have gotten to see the foot markings in a more clear way.

Priced below half of other quality name brand tape meaures and has more features!
Every carpenter should own this tape measure! The 16' length version is perfect for a woodworking shop. The 25' version is ideal for a job site. Easy to read no matter what direction you are pulling from, right or left. The clip is awesome for a belt or even a bluejeans front pocket edge. It has the standard 1" bendable thick blade on either version! It retracts at a manageable speed. The price is amazing. It was not available at Home Depot or Lowes, so I decided to look here on Amazon. The price is at least HALF of other quality name brand tape measures and the features blow them away. Includes a convenient pencil sharpener and writable pad area on the face for remembering measurements. Easy to erase after the cuts are made. I bought a small battery operated pencil sharpener and a box of #2 pencils for my shop, so I'm set for a long time. Construction pencils and Sharpie's lines are thick. I prefer a finer line you get from a sharp standard pencil. Old times say to only use ONE tape measure for everything. Do this because there can be variations due to wear/tear, age and damage on tape measures over time. I put all of my other tape measures in a bucket and will give them away. If you use the same tape to measure and then cut, you're going to be very accurate! Most of us take pride in our work, so accuracy is important. I bought this tape measure with my own money. NO BS reviews from me. No negatives to report on this one! Definitely recommend.

Extremely Useful Features for Daily Work
This FastCap PSSR 16 tape measure is one of the most practical ones I have used. The reverse printing makes it easy to read measurements from either side, which is surprisingly helpful during real world projects. The blade markings are clear and easy to see. I also like the built in pencil sharpener and the writable label area on the side for quick notes. The tape extends smoothly and retracts consistently without snapping back too aggressively. The case feels durable and holds up well to regular use. Overall, this is a well thought out tool with features that actually make a difference. I would definitely recommend it to anyone doing carpentry or general construction work.

Durable and easy to read quickly
Have used these for a long time and love them. Easy to read quickly. I have broke one clip and it was because I abused it. Works well for me in the shop or construction .
