OtterBoxDEFENDER SERIES Case for iPhone 5 ( Not for iPhone 5C or 5S) Retail Packaging Boom Purple

This case is fantastic. I bought it just under a year ago right after Christmas 2012 for my iPhone 5. I've dropped it several times, my children (4 and 1) have been pretty rough on it, and it's still performing perfectly. I like the feel of the outer shell and I tend to fiddle with it while I'm watching Netflix. Part of the silicone came apart after being picked at repeatedly but I wouldn't call that a design flaw since it was my own fault! It's easy to get on and off. The outside shell picks up lint and is hard to get in and out of your pocket but I didn't mind because I figured that would make it harder for someone else to get it out of my pocket. All in all, I am very pleased with how this case has worked and protected my phone. My husband and I are getting new phones this year and I will definitely be looking into OtterBoxes for them as well.My ONLY complaint was that it isn't waterproof. They released the waterproof ones only a few weeks after I bought this one.

I am a giant klutz and drop things all the time. I had an OtterBox Defender (or whatever it was called at that point) on my iPhone 3GS and it saved my phone more times than I can count. I upgraded to the iPhone 5 and wouldn't take it out of the house (or even take the plastic screen protector off) until this came in the mail. So many of my friends in the last few years have gotten the newest iPhone only to shattered or scratch their screens.This version is a nice upgrade from the one on my iPhone 3GS as it no longer has air bubbles between it and the screen (no matter how carefully I put it on the air bubbles were always there). It is very sturdy and I like the colors it comes in. I always have to look up a video on how to get the darn thing open and even then I have a hard time getting the hard plastic skeleton apart. This is good news for me though...it will NEVER come off your phone on its own!I took off one star because the case's screen did get a scratch in it (probably from having it in my purse with my keys). Yes, the phone's screen is still fine and yes, it is just a case, but I'm likely never going to take this case off until I get rid of the phone, so it is a bit annoying that the case's screen protector is already scratched.I've had the case on my phone for at least 2 months now and other than that one scratch, nothing else has happened. I love never having to worry (unless I drop my phone in the toilet or in the pot of soup I'm making) about damaging my phone!

I have had my OtterBox for a year now. When I first received it the rubber coating fit tightly over the plastic protection. I did not have any problems, and still don't, plugging in the cover for the charging port and headphones. It has withstood a few drops and has kept my phone relatively clean. I do like that it had a built in cover. I have never used the included clip for the phone. It made the phone, which is already bulky, very bulky.The phone cover is open over the speakers, apple logo, camera, and front camera. These have been the cause for dirt and scratches on my phone.After a year of use I have the following compliants:The rubber no longer fits tightly over the hard plastic. It has never easily slid in and out of my pockets, now nearly impossible to do and keeping the rubber on.The built in screen has obvious scratches, mainly from repeated scrolling with my thumb nail.Overall, the case has done the job, protecting my phone from drops. Due to the bulk and the fact the case is coming apart, I am replaceing with a different brand of protective case. I am now trying LifeProof cases.

not a 5 star because the built in screen easily already got a first scratch. (not sure how it happened...i think it was in my pocket with my keys or something) i am looking forward to the day that otter makes the defender waterproof (and the screen less scratchable) but hey at least the iphone isnt scratched. the screen protector on this model is built into the case so its one piece with the front which makes the screen water tight. this is great! the hoes fort he speakers and in the back to the camera and the circle hole are open tho so water could get in there. i would advise against dropping it in the toilet, however i think it could survive some splashing unless it got hit wrong. the entire darker purple area is hard rubber and grippy as opposed to slippery. i like to be able to just put it on the dash in the car and know it's going to stay put. though its not tiny...i still have no problem putting it in my pocket, but this is the only model that comes with a clip. the clip is beefy and i prefer the pocket method but i probably will use it at some point. the button on mine is not hard to push but the one hubby got is harder. i'm wondering if he adjusts the phone a little if it will fix the problem. also, on my screen, the clolor of the phone is slightly different...the lighter purple is a little more purple/pink than it looks on this photo but i like it just as well.

I have been a great recommender of the OtterBox cases; they have all worked great for me in the past, until I upgraded my wife’s iPhone and purchased the Commuter case from OtterBox. I was extremely disappointed with this case, the hard plastic of the commuter case began to crack and break off in pieces after only a month of use (see pictures and review on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-Commuter-Series-iPhone-Frustration-Free/dp/B00974L0F4/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header). Our kids tend to be a quite hard on our phones, especially the toddler! But all the previous cases from otterbox have held up so well, I have an old iPhone 4S commuter case that is over 2 years old and still in great shape. So I decided to upgrade to the Defender case to see if it would perform properly. I also waited almost 6 months to write this review. The Defender case has held up as expected, and is still working great. After multiple drops, and harsh treatment the case still looks like new, and no damage to phone or screen. Highly recommend spending the extra money for the defender case over the commuter if you are in need of an iPhone 5 case.

Arrived on time and as described. Second Otterbox bought. You do not leave this in a meeting! You know you when it is not with you. Great protection. When you pay a lot for the phone you want to keep it safe. This is the way to do it.

Great case

I already made a review for this case but in a different colour so I'll make this brief: the Defender series is the best, most durable case made for this price. Compared to some other cases that are even considerably more expensive, this is also the most economical option as well. A little limited in colours but if that's your only gripe, this is your case. Especially if you are all thumbs like me.

Got this to replace another otter box that fell apart in less than a year without any damage due to dropping etc, it just fell apart in a pocket!Anyways this one seems a better quality and sturdier it's just a little stiff around buttons and openings like for charging and whatnot.I'm happy! And it arrived way before the estimated delivery
