Classic Sambo
I bought this book in 1978 for my young son. I could not find this edition for my grandchildren so I ordered a used copy. They love it too so it was worth the high price.

An old time CLASSIC Fairy Tale about a boy from south India that all children would enjoy!
This is a WONDERFUL CLASSIC short story! I had this very version as a child. Spoiler alert below....This is a story about a South Indian boy who lives with his father and mother. While out walking, this child encounters four hungry tigers, and surrenders his colorful new clothes, shoes, and umbrella so they will not eat him. The tigers are vain and each thinks he is better dressed than the others. They chase each other around a tree until they are reduced to a pool of ghee (clarified butter). The child then recovers his clothes and collects the ghee, which his mother uses to make pancakes. It's really a cute fairy tale that is often misunderstood by people who judge it incorrectly based on it's title without ever reading the story. It's sad that people want to label things negatively that they don't take the time to understand. There is nothing negative in this book. The fact that the butter was made from tigers didn't phase me as a child, in fact I use to crave pancakes after reading it. Yes, it's not realistic but it is a fairy tale. They don't have to make sense. I have fond memories of this story and made sure to have a copy to read to my own children when they were little. It's a wonderful old time classic.
