Bad Valves when opening the case
I don't normally leave a lot of reviews and just leave well enough alone if the item is ok. I figure most of the time you get what you pay for and if their are defects in cheap knock-off, off-brand stuff, then that is what I payed for. If I do leave a review usually it is to praise an item leaving 5-stars, and no less than 4-stars. This time is different.Companies that order from over-seas should inspect their product before shipping them to Amazon or anyone else for that matter. This Item was Prime and had ample opportunity to be inspected before shipping.I played trumpet for about 8 years and can still play somewhat well, so when my daughter decided to play trumpet I was excited. I did put here through the wringer making sure that this is what she wanted to do because trumpet can be a little challenging. So I purchased one of the cheaper trumpets off of Amazon for her beginning instrument. The slide action and everything seemed to be on par. It was very light which is nice for beginners which I accepted as not going to take the abuse that a more expensive trumpet like a conn, yammaha, bach, etc would take. The brassy sound was exceptional so I took that as a positive. The trumpet is is still functioning well minus a few bumps and bruises so I thought I would try a cornet from the Amazon website. This is one of the main gifts on my daughters short list of Christmas gifts, though a little short notice and she wanted it in blue which I couldn't find. I tried to talk here into a flugelhorn, which sounded more entertaining as I played cornet for a couple years and it drove my teacher nuts, lol.So we did hours of research for a cornet we thought would be the best (maybe more like days). We finally settled on this Slade branded cornet. I am sure this same cornet comes under many different names. The first thing we did when receiving it was to inspect the package. Everything but a cleaning cloth and gloves were on the outside of the case, which was fine. I did notice that the straps for the case were missing altogether. Upon open the case a valve finger piece was rolling around the case. This was a bad sign to start off. I opened the protective bag that the horn came in and all three pieces were removed. I hoped that this was for shipping purposes. The valves were all stuck in the down position. Again I hoped this was for shipping purposes. I removed the cap of the first valve and screwed the finger piece in to the stem, which was a little deep. If this happens to anyone else I would recommend removing the bottom cap and pushing the slide up and then attaching the finger pieces. I removed the valve and notice the pin that is under the spring, in the valve was cocked sideways. This the piece that keeps the valve in place. I used a tool to pop it back in place and everything seemed fine. All of this was the same for every valve, so I assumed it was the way things were supposed to be for shipping. I was a bit annoyed, but hoped everything else would be fine and it would play for me. I oiled the valves as they were quite dry and put them back into their slots individually one at a time. The first thing I noticed was that the slides still didn't slot very well. The second thing I noticed that the slides moved very slowly. The third thing I noticed was that the valve stems were bent and leaning against the opening in the cap, and made of what appeared to be aluminum. The fourth thing I noticed was that the spring wasn't strong enough and the valves kept popping out of placed even if the valve slide made it to full open position. I tried working the valves as if maybe the oil hadn't covered the valve and the guide. This made no difference. The fifth thing was that the caps were finely threaded and difficult the screw on. I had to take my time and go slow as to not miss-thread them. This may be that my old instruments used coarse threading and my have been SAE or standard thread instead of metric or MM. After a while I simply asked my wife to file for a return.1) Slides don't slot well2) Slides move slowly or not at all3) Valves stems were bent and made of aluminum4) Springs aren't strong enough for the valve5) The Caps have fine thread and are hard to screw on, and takes patience to not crossthreadSomething to note is that I never even unwrapped the mouthpiece when I realized the slides did not function properly, so I wasn't able to review it. I didn't even look at it unfortunately.I am really disappointed, as I was hoping this would be a good cheap alternative to a expensive part-time instrument. I like getting cheap stuff that works well and I don't have to buy the over-priced name-brand stuff. This time I didn't even get what I paid for though. This was not the cheapest of the cornets on Amazon either. So I ordered one of the cheapest and I will review it when I get it, just so others may know the difference.I am not saying the seller is a bad seller; this is simply a review of the product and people should write reviews accordingly. This item, while inferior, may have been ok, had the stems and springs not been bad.The return was simple and easy through Amazon Prime. I shipped it out yesterday after having had it for about 2 hours. I will see if the return is good, but so far I haven't had a problem with prime. I can't say the same with sellers that aren't Prime, so I always try to use prime.

Great Value Cornet for Students and Occasional players.
Arrived well packaged, a little valve oil and we were away, no problems. The Cornet is very well made with a good finish for the price and really surprised me as to how well the instrument played. It,s $148 so doesn’t play like something 30 times more expensive. A slightly larger mouthpiece would help Like Denis Wick 4 and will improve the responsiveness which is the only slight flaw. Intonation through lower to upper register is surprisingly good. Overall great value and more than adequate for a student to advance to a competent level.

You get what you pay for.
It's OK, but has little things that makes me not want to buy it again. Valves can get sticky and stuck unless oiled all the time. Playing in tune is tricky. Alternate fingerings can help. Slides stick also. Threads on valves are touchy, easy to cross thread. Seems like the metal used is not very hard.

Not a good buy
Didn't bring my instrument with me. Bought cheap; got cheap. Not good enough for a child student. Very poor. Worked with this instrument with no improvement. I've played trumpet/cornet my entire life. I'm 73.

sounds like all of the jupiters and other cornets
Came with everything, sounds like all of the jupiters and other cornets. All you have to get is a 9e mouth peice and then you are ready to roll.

Not worth the money. Poor quality all around
The brush came apart the first time I used it

Okay, But!
Shorter (smaller) than I expected and the valves have the tendency to slow, even after oiling.
