Wordly Wise 3000: Book 1 Systematic, Sequential Vocabulary Development Paperback – January 1, 2007

My mistake was that I didn't buy the teacher manual for this. It's a bit difficult to use without the manual---but doable. I can tell however, that *if* I had bought the teacher book, it would have been even better than it has been, making it up as I go. My 6 year old loves it, despite Language not being her favorite subject and she's sailed through this no problem.

Six year old grandson loves his book. It has stickers and a map of progress. He is a reader, going into first grade.

I had been skeptical after reading the reviews but I saw a Book 3 at the local bookstore so I thought it must have been a different edition or something like that. I ordered this book along with Book 2 and Book 4. THIS BOOK IS NOT THE SAME AS THE OTHERS!! It is completely useless to you without a teacher manual for anything other than a word list. I am returning it because it is completely unhelpful to me. HOWEVER starting with Book 2, the format is completely different and a teachers manual is in no way required. I encourage you to take a look at the series but forget this particular book.

Yes, Wordly Wise requires instructor materials. I appreciate being able to purchase the workbooks on Amazon, as they are less expensive than the ones on the publisher's website. While I also enjoy First Language Lessons (or perhaps the other reviewer was referring to The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading) and Writing With Ease, I don't feel a comparison can be accurately drawn. Wordly Wise is a vocabulary building curriculum, while FLL is a grammar curriculum, OPGTR is a reading curriculum, and WWE is a writing curriculum. Taking those things into consideration, I feel Wordly Wise does exactly what it purports to do. My children love WW3000. In my opinion, it takes a potentially mind-numbing pursuit, and makes it fun.

My 3-star rating is an unfortunate composite. Wordly Wise is a good program (5 stars), but there are two big caveats to this listing (1 star) at this point in time.First, the book depicted (as of 25 September 2023) is of the THIRD edition book, but the product is the SECOND edition book. DO NOT buy the product to go with other Wordly Wise products based on the picture.Second, the level 1 book requires a companion teacher's book which is not included with this one. For example, many of the exercises are predicated on stories ("Have the children look at the pictures as you read the story aloud. Then have them mark items in the pictures..."), but the stories are only in the teacher's book. It's hard to even know exactly what the required product is called, because EPS has at various times produced companions called "Teacher's Guide," "Teacher's Key," and "Teacher's Resource Book." Regardless, I cannot find any of these for the 2nd edition, so this book seems pretty useless (again, as of 25 September 2023).

Makes learning vocabulary fun! The stories are engaging. Even my youngest, who is 5 yrs old, is learning the vocabulary words with her sister who is older.

The product description withholds the vital information that this is just the student's book that has to be used in combination with an accompanying teacher's book. Since the teacher's book does not appear anywhere near this product (e.g. as a suggested product, or as a "other customers bought this together with..."), it was only when the book arrived and could see the actual exercises that I guessed this information by myself.I am seriously annoyed and feel misrepresented at by the seller.

I love the Book 2 WW so I got this to ensure we'd covered the basics. But I think this is a companion book and I don't know what it goes with so it's pretty useless.
