## Description

Lyman 2837794 Lead Ingot Mould

Review: Very nice and consistant ingot mold - I picked up this ingot mold to help keep track of soft lead vs clip on weights. Already had a Lee ingot mold and will be using it for soft lead and the Lyman for harder lead. The finish on the mold is very good. And like other reviews after using it a bit I did have to reseat the handle with a soft mallet but the same is true of the Lee. The handle is very sturdy and even with all cavities filled it did not feel unstable. The mold itself is like the other in that to get good looking ingots you would have to pour and remelt half a dozen to get it up to temperature but once it is at temperature it drops a very nice looking even ingot. Being aluminum once you have filled it a few times it is so hot it will take a few minutes to solidify the lead but that is also true of any aluminum ingot mold. All in all the fit and finish is a bit better than the Lee and I feel the price is very fair for what you get. The Lee does have a half ingot feature that may help some but for me is a non-issue as I havent had a need for the feature. I have included a photo of both side by side for comparison of size and of ingots dropped. Bear in mind the Lee is almost pure lead so thats what causes it to have more shine to it. Hopefully this helps someone find what they need. Happy casting!
Review: Nice molds for stacking lead neatly - These molds work fantastic. Just be sure they are on a level surface and you will have nice even lead bars. I purchased a few so I could pour more bars without having to wait for the molds to cool off before dumping.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the mold constructed of? Aluminum? Cast Iron? It doesn't specify in the description(even on the Lyman site)...**
A: It seems to be made of a heavy cast aluminum alloy. it doesn't seem to be cast iron, because the surface can be scratched with a common "steel" wood screw.

**Q: Does lead have to be a certain temperature to make ingots**
A: Not a "certain" temperature, but melted of course. You need to reach at least 625 degrees F for this to occur. Of course you should clean the lead really well before making ingots, so you are not cleaning it later when you pour stuff.

Little trick for you. When I got my four molds, I mixed some JB Weld and used it to secure the tang into the handle. This worked really well and keeps everything tight. You don't want the handle coming undone while you are moving the molten lead about.

**Q: The photo shows a bullet mold - not an ingot mold. The description sounds right but it'd be nice to have visual verification...**
A: I ordered this and got the ingot mold. No clue y they put that pic up

**Q: Is this to make 4 1lb ingots?**
A: It will make 4 1lb ingots. Roughly 1lb each. I love mine.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice molds for stacking lead neatly

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works awesome! Will not melt if used properly.
*by D***D on March 27, 2021*

I just finished casting 70lbs of lead. This mold releases easily without any release agent. It cools the cast quickly, which is nice. Each ingot will weigh about 1 pound. It works great. 700°F is plenty hot to cast lead. Aluminum melts at over 1200°F. So if you heat your lead to excessively high temperatures, this aluminum mold will melt, which would probably be a good thing because if you melt this mold you probably shouldn't be casting lead to begin with.
