Does it really weigh 20 pounds?

I never weighed it but it really is light weight.Like another poster said it is kind of cheap and I only use it for storage in a bedroom and don't even use the lock. If I were traveling a lot with it I would get a more expensive locker. It fits my needs for my situation and is cheap and looks fine.

Is it made out of sturdy wood? Will it take a hefty beating?

It's not made of wood but is very sturdy. We bought it for my daughter to use for summer camp. It's been perfect for that purpose. Otherwise it's been stored in the attic. So it has not been used daily. Hope that helps!
