I was reluctant to purchase this due to the price, but it had such a clean look I went for it. Very pleased with the craftsmanship, and it's real leather! Once it loosenes up, you will be able to pull the knife out easily. I quickened the process by putting my Opinel #8 in the sheath upside down as far as I could without forcing it, and letting it sit for a bit. Its works like a champ, holds my knife secure and releases with just the right amount of force. I really enjoy carrying my Opinel #8 this way. I really feel, due to the professionalism of the stitching, this sheath will outlast quite a few knives. Due to the slim design, it tucks close to your belt loop and I haven't snagged it on anything.

A very sturdy, handsome and practical sheath for the Opinel No. 9 pocket knife. Fits tightly at the bottom to stay put, but easy to pull out when the knife is needed. It takes a couple of days of stretching and removing to give the sheath a natural shape. Recommend leaving the sheath with knife inside in the sun or under a lamp to give it a bit of form fit; within a week you'll have a glove-like fit for your knife. Follow their guide to sheath size when ordering; they need to be snug to do the job properly.

Solidly made, but a little tight. No8 sheath fits my No7 knife comfortably but would take a lot of breaking in for a No8 knife. Note that this is definitely designed to be a belt-carry sheath. I didn't pay enough attention and was expecting it to be like my old leather knife cover that just kept the knife clean in a backpack. Satisfied with this one but actually pay attention to the pictures on Amazon instead of being a dummy like me :P

At $24.00, this item is over priced. I will say the #9 sheath fits the #9 Opinel knife very snugly. However, I found the quality of workmanship deficient in that there are machine marks imprinted into the leather along the single-row stitching. The end stitches are doubled only two stitches. The threads are lighter weight than I would like, particularly on the belt loop. The belt loop is tightly flat-stitched to the back of the sheath, and will not accept a standard thickness and width men's belt. I can push a belt into the loop with the knife removed, but then the knife will no longer fit the sheath. The quality of the leather is basic, and is approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil lead. At half the price, this sheath would still be expensively marked for the quality presented.

The sheath is nicely made... as it should be, since it costs more than the knife. The belt loop is very narrow or small. Can only be used on slim slim belts. This would be a deal breaker, but I ordered the sheath for neck carry, so it’s fine for me. Snug fit. A little too snug when new, but I’m sure it will loosen over time. If it doesn’t, I’ll wet form it. EDIT: After a week of use and some gentle wet forming, the fit is perfect. I’m really enjoying neck carry with the Opinel. I’m leaving the rating at four stars overall because the sheath is pretty useless for belt carry, but it’s five stars for neck carry.

Expensive but top notch quality.

Fits the knife and any 1.5 inch belt great. Highly recommend.

Should be 1/2 the price... It's not that it's bad, it's thin but hey it's for a light knife... I dipped it in hot water put a plastic bag on my knife put it in for a bit... Seems fine.

Well made and slick. It also fit a no.7 Opinel. It's kind of a tight fit for no.8 when new and it's also good for a no.7. I recommand for both. The best way to carry those knives!

Don’t normally write reviews but this warrants one : Absolutely best leather knife holder - fits the opinel perfectly and securely. Snug fit which is needed but easy to remove knife with custom cut out section. Leather is excellent quality and perfect thickness. The stitching is quality and done solidly. Overall the craftsmanship in making this knife holder is on point. Delivery to the uk was quicker than expected and was trackable all the way. Highly recommend this and with a little care this will last a lifetime ! Thank you.

Un fodero perfetto per l'Opinel. Realizzato in modo molto accurato, in morbida pelle conciata al vegetale, ha un design accattivante che non ha niente a che vedere con quei porta coltelli ad astuccio anonimi. La prima volta che si inserisce il coltello fa un po' di resistenza e questo è positivo perché vuol dire che calza perfettamente anche perché la pelle tende un po' a cedere. E' anche molto morbido e piacevole al tatto. Ero un po' scettico sul prezzo, quasi tre volte il valore del coltello che ospita, ma devo dire che vale ogni euro speso. Spero che con l'uso (anche intensivo) mantenga le sue qualità.
