It works with lots of watering!
We tried grass seed but it just wouldn't grow! As a last resort, we tried the Growtrax. We removed all weeds, loosened up the soil, wet it, then laid down the Growtrax and watered it immediately. We watered approximately every 3 hours making sure it didn't dry out. After a couple of weeks we had sprouts! It's been about 11/2 months and with consistent watering we have a nice bed of grass. It is still very tender grass and we continue to baby it. We bought another roll and laid it next to the current growth and are taking care if it the exact same way. If you keep it moist, I think you'll be in luck!

Doesn’t work as described
I was excited to get this product. It says roll it out, water it and watch it grow. There’s more to it than that obviously. I had to prepare the site. Removing all the old thatch, dead grass, leaves, and digging down 2 inches to loosen the soil. I did all of the above. I had rolled out the mats to decide how to lay them out around a tree and a curved flower bed. I cut out the design as best I could, and used the scraps to patch in some of the larger openings. I noticed that the mats had two different sides. A dark side and a light side. I wasn’t sure which side to lay on the ground so I tried contacting the company and I have received no reply. I thought this would be important since it said, in the video that the mat would stick to the ground once it was watered. so I wasn’t sure if there was a sticky side or not sticky side. Since there was no answer, I tried placing the lighter side down. I watered it, and it quickly became a very sticky mush and adhered to the ground. When the site was prepared, I lay down the mats and watered as instructed. I also watered it three times a day because of our Texas heat. And that was as instructed. It’s been two weeks and I have seen absolutely no growth, no sprouts, nothing. I was hoping I’d see at least a couple of sprouts by this time. A close-up shows that the seed coats are popped open from hydration but nothing coming out of them. I wonder if it had viable seeds at all. Since there are no phone numbers or replies to text messages, there is no way for me to know if I still need to wait longer to see any growth. But it seems that two weeks is long enough to see something happening. One photo shows that there are some holes but those were created by small critters who like to dig things up. After taking the photo, I went back and patched the holes up. That’s when I examined the mat and noticed that there was absolutely no growth happening. No roots no sprouts, no nothing.

Very Easy Good Looking Lawn.
I have used this product several times now and every single time it has been great. The first thing you should do is loosen the soils and for best results add organic material to the soil. It doesn’t work well if you have dead soil. And, YES, water it in on a semi regular schedule.

Does not stick to the ground
A relatively small area (300 SQ Ft) need reseeding. We followed the directions very carefully even spread 3 yards of top soil on the area. Removed all the weeds in the area and got down to the earth only and raked it smooth; wet the surface to a damp consistency then applied Grotrax. It was a basically calm day but as we rolled out the Grotrax we got a little breeze less than 5 MPH. We took precautions and put weight on the ends, still it came up we pretty much repaired it. I watered 3 times during the afternoon into the evening. I watered twice the next morning plus we had an early morning shower. With the watering I took great care to not over water; damp just about saturated without puddling. So I tried to repair and protect from wind which was extremely light with the first application and then the next morning. Come the afternoon on the 2nd day the pictures show how the product is. Also once wet you can not pick it up and reapply it. It crumples in your hand. Although the advertisement says it sticks to the ground, you can't prove it by me. I am frustrated beyond belief. All that work and expense I am relatively sure it went for naught. If it grows I'll update but I don't see it staying in place long enough to properly germinate. At this point I would not buy again. Update 1 week later - the rest about 80 % did stick to the ground. Grass is poking it's way through the mat. I suspect there will be a lot of spots to patch in - I would rate it a 2 1/2. Not sure if I would buy again. 3 Months since the install - grass is in and full looks great there are a couple spots where the wind blew the mat off. If it was me I would definitely offer the stakes to hold down the mat and include in your how to videos- So much effort was put into trying to get the blown off mat back in contact with the ground. If it had stakes include I would buy again.

Not a great product.
It is a pain to lay down if there is any wind at all. Also, if you are in a windy area it’s not the product you want! I ended up having to put a couple inches of soil to keep in laying down! I lost a bunch of it during a windy day even with soil weighing it down. Would maybe be a good “patch” product, but if you live in the country or anywhere windy I don’t recommend. I originally thought I might be able to steal the strips down but once the product gets wet it shreds easily and the anchors did nothing. I will update when the grass starts to grow how it is.

Impressed with a great product!
We took advantage of the quarantine to overhaul our previously gravel and weed filled side yard. I put quite a bit of work into prepping the space prior to laying grass. Because of all the gravel I put in new edging and 4” of new soil. I had no desire to dig out the existing dirt and rock and I was fine with the area of my yard being higher since it did not connect to the existing grass in my yard. Once the soil was down I wet the dirt and laid the growtex paper down, wetting each section as I went and overlapping by an inch or so. It went down easily and wetting “glued” it down pretty well. One issue I ran into was the softness of my soil created a lot of lumpiness as I walked on it to lay down the grass paper. I’m not sure if this would be avoidable or not. It was very apparent when first down, but as the grass grew it has become less so. I may add more topsoil and roll in the fall if it still bothers me. I was worried about the paper getting blown around by the wind but never had an issue with this. I watered by hose three times a day for the first 4 weeks, and then went down to once a day with a sprinkler. I did not cut until it had grown for 6 weeks, and have only cut it once so far. I can still see quite a bit of paper through the grass, but it is slowly disintegrating. Overall very pleased with how well this worked and how easy it was. I know there are comments about the expense and how buying a bag of grass seed would be much less expensive. To me the simplicity of this product and how well it has grown were worth it.

Light weight easy to install...Update
Since you are asking for a review I'll reply. First the product is meant to grow grass. Since I only received the product a week ago you can imagine that there isn't any grass yet. It would make a lot more sense to ask for a review of this product 4 to 6 weeks after shipment as the producer claims that you'll have grass within 4 weeks. I will say that it was easy to install after the ground was prepared. You just roll it out and water it. It was much easier than laying sod. I will add that it was harder than expected to trim or cut I ended up using a shears. I was also surprised how fragil it is once it's wet but was warned by the manufacturer. Ask for another review in4 weeks and I can let you know if it worked. Well it didn't work and I'm truly disappointed I really wanted this product to work. I've included two pictures. One is of a large area that I had stapled and watered 3 times a day. It looked great. We then had an afternoon of wind and it blew away. The second picture is the result of birds. We have a bird feeder nearby and the sparrows discovered the seed blanket and loved it. Under the right circumstances this product may work but with birds and wind I ran into problems. I've moved onto seed.

Got a product different from image.
Got my order yesterday but got the a different product with a “Canadian mixture”, not the on in the picture. After researching, the seeds combination could work well in Ontario. But please update the image of the product being sold. This is misleading. This worked beautifully! I followed manufacturer instructions to the T (replaced top soil with a good quality one and watered 3times/day the first 8 days. I got grass at 8 days. I also got some mushrooms but I just pull them out and started watering 2 times/day. This roll was not enough so I had to use grass seeds for a small section and both are ground at the same time. Both equally effective. I will warn, if you have squirrels, they will dig and rip your fabric.
