They were in a zip-lock type bag that was wrapped in thick paper that was closed and sealed with wax. They had a few wrinkles in them that is to be expected due to them traveling via mail for a few days, but they truly were fresh. They smelled great and were moist and had that fresh pepper taste.Now for the heat! I've been growing Rooster Spur Chiles in my backyard for several years and eat them fresh off the bush quite often. Lately, after watching some YouTube videos (LOL), I've been looking for something hotter. Best I can tell, the Rooster Spur is rated at 120,000 to 170,000 Scoville. When I eat a Rooster Spur, my eyes water, I hiccup, and there is an intense burn for 30 seconds to a minute. I've tried a fresh, whole Habanero (that is suppose to be hotter) and there was hardly any heat at all. Maybe I got a dud? I bought some of the Black Skull Ghost pepper powder (from this same company) and ate a spoonful straight and still did not get much heat. The burn of the Ghost Pepper powder was about the same as the Rooster Spurs, but lasted a bit longer.For these fresh ones, I cut off the tip and tried it first. Not much heat there, but it had no seeds, so then I cut off a bigger piece with some seeds. Now I was starting to get some real heat. Then I said to myself, "What the heck!" and threw the whole thing in my mouth. While I was chewing it, it wasn't so bad, but as soon as I swallowed, the intense heat hit my throat and back of my mouth! Major eye watering, nose running, making me feel light-headed heat!
