Review: If you need it, it’s worth it. - This is the first splint I was told to get by the orthopedic doctor I saw after an injury. Of course, wearing one of these isn’t going to be a 5 star experience, but I was thankful to have it. It is very well made. The Velcro is strong, and didn’t wear out quickly like some has a tendency to do. It’s easy to get on and off with one hand, so a second person isn’t needed, and it was as comfortable as something like this is going to be. It kept my wrist and thumb immobilized, which is what I needed at the time. It was MUCH more economical to get this here than from the office.
Review: Helps a lot plus is exactly the same as what orthopedic Dr. ordered - As to whether this item helped me: 1) I had a LOT of fairly severe pain in my hand, particularly in the thumb & wrist. I couldn't do anything with my hand that required use of the thumb to support/balance/grasp. 2) Official X-ray diagnosis: Degenerative changes of the triscaphe joint (scaphotrapeziotrapezoid) and first carpometacarpal joint -- basically, the joints in the wrist at the base of the thumb) 3) after trying various drugstore hand/wrist/thumb splints before seeing the doctor, the splint that the ortho gave me made the biggest difference: it didn't make the problem go away, but when I wore the splint most of the day, I would have some pain now and then when I used my hand a certain way, but it didn't linger most of the day like it did before using the splint. Believe me, that's a huge improvement! I do wear it most of the day except for when I'm washing dishes or doing something where it just gets in the way ... and I must say, my pain level is reduced significantly. It does cause just a bit of a coordination issue, but in all fairness, it's no worse than being without out the brace where pain/stiffness would cause the same awkwardness. The difference is that by wearing it all day, these moments are much shorter-lived as opposed to when I'm not wearing the splint, one painful episode just merges into the next and the pain just goes on and on all day. THAT SAID ... that was about the splint that the doctor gave me. Since I wore it most of the day/every day, I needed a 2nd one so that I've something to use while I washed/dried the other one. This one on desertcart looked like the same thing. And I am here to confirm that it appears to be EXACTLY the same as what the doctor gave me. Examining/comparing the two (and their associated product literature packets), the ONLY difference I can spot is that the number "DS7410721" is printed on the tag of the one I got from the doctor and the number "DS741022" is printed on the tag of this desertcart item. Other than that, after careful scurtiny, I see absolutely NO DIFFERENCE.
