Magician's End: Book 3 of the Epic Fantasy Chasowar Saga (Chaoswar Saga, 3) Mass Market Paperback – September 30, 2014

As a boy I accidentally stumbled upon the books of Raymond. E. Feist when I visited my public library. I didn't know what it was about, but the title 'Magician' was convincing enough to start reading it.More than a decade later I can look back and say reading Feist's books has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. The books themselves may never ascend to the collection of Western canon, but no other books have been able to encapture me these did. I think the reason why I love these books so much is because they read like one big story. Although new adventures and characters were introduced in every book, I really could feel what Feist has been trying to convey in his books: that everything was part of larger plan.When you write a book about incomprehensible stuff like The Nameless One or The Dread, it can be difficult to keep your audience entertained because at some point you run out of gods, monsters and superlatives to describe them. Feist did a brilliant job building up the story and keeping the veil over the essence of his books. I haven't finished the book yet, but I just read the passage where a major character reveals everything about the nature of the Gods, the Dread and reality. You know that feeling when you laugh uncontrollably after you have found the clue of something? Well, I got that feeling when I read that chapter.I'm totally biased because I grew up with these books, making me unable to approach these books as a (rational) adult, but when a series gives you such an overwhelming feeling of happiness and nostalgia, then the writer did something right.Halfway the series you knew the series had to end somewhere, so I'm not really sad the adventures of Pug and his friends end with Magician's End. I'll indubitably start reading the series again once I'm finished with this books, so it's not that Midkemia dies when this book ends.I just hope Feist will write an entirely new series in the near future. One without Pug, because the Gods know, he has deserved his rest.

Raymond Feist's loyal fans have been waiting many years for this novel.Not because they wanted the series to finish, but because this novel answers and addresses a prophecy or foretelling in one of the much earlier novels and those of us who have lived, loved, laughed and cried along with the Pug and the citizens of Midkemia have waited to see how this would play out.I have found Feist's recent works to be rather too introspective for my own liking. The earlier "Boys own adventure" action pace was much more "my thing" and this novel too has passages where I really just skipped through, thinking "Yada yada yada". However despite this Feist managed to inject enough action and emotive involvement to keep me pinned to the pages till the end.The tale is much more "normal" than some of his recent works and all our old favourite characters and or their descendants were there. Not all Feists characters are "human", but even those with special talents or super hero status have families and loved ones who will grieve their loss and who give a reality to the story.As with most of Feists work, this is a story about overcoming the odds. Learning to cope with the curve balls that life sends you, thinking things through and coming to grips with disaster and despair and carrying on to fight the best fight you can, even when you are not in control or even if you do not quite understand where life is taking you. Feist's heroes are always willing to lend a hand to someone in trouble and always prepared to give their all for the sake of the larger community, or in this case their world.The story wraps it all up nicely and ends on a very positive note.I was moved to wonder if Feist anticipates a new series of adventures, or if he just wanted to bring the story full circle.I had wondered about re-reading the Magician (the first book in the series) before reading this last in the series but did not. After I finished I wanted to start them all again! Perhaps this tells the whole truth of the story. After the end of the book I am still hooked and want to go back and live all the adventures again!

It's over! What a journey over many many years. Well done Feist. I still think about the series years after reading these books. Inspired many DnD mini campaigns for my friend group

Wow. Irgendwie schon ein seltsames Gefühl gestern abend ... wenn so eine Mega-Saga zuenede geht, die man selbst knappe 20 Jahre begleitet hat (ich habe mit 'Magician' vor ziemlich exakt 20 Jahren begonnen)Für mich persönl. - und da habe ich mir schon unzählige Diskussionen mit anderen Fantasy fans geliefert ;) ist Feists Midemia Saga (ich verwende jetzt mal diesen Begriff als Überbegriff für sein Lebenswerk)die Referenz im Fantasy Genre - ja sogar vor der Fantasy-Bibel: LOTR !Es gab Höhen und Tiefen. Was hat der Mann uns für Wahnsinns Bände bzw. Saga-Abschnitte geliefert, ich glaube das brauche ich nicht weiter auszuführen, die Fans wissen was ich meine.Die meisten sind sich wohl auch einig, daß es die letzten Jahre etwas abflaute, ich würde sagen nach der Reihe um Talon of the Silver Hawk irgendwann.Aber mir persönlich, der ich langsam auf die 40 zugehe und neben Feist auch u.a. Salvatores Mega-Sagen all die Jahre begleitete und dort das gleiche Phänomen der langsam eintretenden Langeweile auftrat, stellt sich irgendwie die Frage: Sind wirklich die Bücher schlechter geworden oder bin einfach nur ich langsam zu alt für den Kram geworden bzw. hat sich einfach generell für mich der ganze klassische Fantasy Kram mittlerweile abgenutzt durch u.a. zuviel Wiederholung?Ich weiß es nicht.Fest steht: Auch dieses letzte Buch reicht sicherlich nicht an seine Altwerke (Midkemia 1-6, Serpentwar 1-6... heran - trotz des Bedienes raffinierter Hilfsmittel wie das kurzzeitige "Auflebenlassen" lange nicht mehr gesehener bzw erwähnter alter Bekannten (damit meine ich nicht nur die bereits im vorigen oder vorvorigen Band wieder "animierten" Nakor und Miranda...Natürlich treibt es dem Fan da die Nostalgietränen in die Augen ;) und man fühlt sich beim Lesen des Buches irgendwie immer wieder an die guten alten Zeiten erinnert - raffiniert ;)Alles in allem ist es ein solides Werk.Im Prinzip haben wir zwei Handlungsstränge: Einen weltlichen um die Vergabe bzw. Krieg um die Krone sowie einen - man kann klar sagen - science fiction lastigen 2. Hauptstrang bei dem, so stark ausgeprägt wie wohl in noch keinem anderen Band zuvor, Feist seine zweifelsohne stark ausgeprägte Phantasie in Bezug auf Astrophysik zur Geltung kommen läßt.Es liegt mir fern, die Sinnhaftigkeit selbiger Ansätze hier diskutieren geschweige denn in Frage stellen zu wollen - es ist ja schließlich Fantasy :DAber ich, der ich u.a. auch die Werke S. Hawkings gelesen (ich sage NICHT verstanden !! :D :D) habe, fand seine Ideen in Bezug auf Universum und der Enstehung von Zeit etc... doch stellenweise recht erfrischend :)Immerhin hat er es unterlassen auf Singularitäten einzugehen und nicht versucht, ALLES im Universum auf seine Art zu erklären, lol ;)Und Götter sind einem nach dem Genuß dieses Werkes doch auch gleich viel sympatischer als vorher...:)Wie auch immer. Dem letzten Buch eine 5 zu geben ist vielleicht nicht ganz gerechtfertigt aber ich tue es dennoch.Als Abschlußnote für ein Meisterwerk - über 20-30 Jahre. Und eine gute 4 hat der Band allemal verdient.Es ist sicherlich nicht das spannendste Buch, aber dennoch ein relativ guter page-turner - auf seine eigene Art. Sicherlich der bereits erwähnte Nostalgiefaktor auch mit beteiligt.Fans müssen es sowieso lesen. Ich war entsetzt als ich mir im Vorfeld die Rezis auf der engl. Amazon Seite anschaute. Da wurde das Buch größtenteils zerissen. Kann ich nicht ganz verstehen aber ok.Geschmacksache.Und ob es wirklich das Ende ist, sei mal dahingestellt :)Es wurden definitiv genügend mehr als eindeutige Ansätze eingebaut, die eine Fortsetzung rechtfertigen würden/könnten.Ich glaube aber für mich persönlich geht die Saga hier definitiv zuende - genau wie ich auch unlängst nach dem Tod sämtlicher alter Recken rund um Drizzt die Dunkelelf-Saga letztes Jahr zu den Akten legte.Bevor ich irgendwann auch anfange, Bücher per Rezi zu zerreissen, nur weil ich persönlich vielleicht einfach schon zuviel von dem Kram hatte in all den Jahren.Danke Rymond Feist für 20 Jahre gute bis SAGENHAFTE Unterhaltung !
