FireAngel FA6813-EUX10 FA6813 Carbon Monoxide Detector & Alarm with Replaceable Batteries

I bought this carbon monoxide detector based on FireAngel’s strong reputation, and I’m happy to say it did not disappoint. Setup was simple, and the build quality feels solid and dependable right out of the box. The compact size is a big plus. It doesn’t take up much space and blends in nicely wherever you place it. It also comes with holes on the back for wall mounting, which made installation super quick and easy. I ran a test and wow: the alarm is incredibly loud. No chance of missing it if it ever goes off. Hopefully, the only time it ever makes that much noise is during the test, I’d much rather it stay quiet and bored on the wall than actually detecting carbon monoxide! 😅 There’s also a small flashing light that lets you know it’s powered and monitoring, which adds a little extra reassurance without being distracting. You can also expect long battery life, so you won’t constantly be checking or replacing it, just set it and let it quietly do its job. This device definitely helps increase safety at home, and at this price point, it offers excellent peace of mind and value. Highly recommended if you're looking for a compact, loud, and reliable CO detector from a trusted brand.

A month or so after buying this the alarm went off. We called the emergency services and they sent the fire brigade, who confirmed there was a carbon monoxide leak and disconnected the gas. My boyfriend's young son sleeps in the room next to where the boiler is located, and it's terrifying to think he could have died if I hadn't bought this alarm. Definitely a sliding doors moment!!! Before that day, my boyfriend had been experiencing severe headaches and dizziness every day and needed daily pain medication. After the gas was disconnected his symptoms significantly improved (although they haven't disappeared entirely). Headaches, dizziness and nausea are symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and I now suspect there had been a low-level carbon monoxide leak for months, which was making him sick, but not enough to activate the alarm. I have learnt that carbon monoxide alarms must activate if the levels exceed a certain quantity within a certain time period, but the alarms are not required to activate if carbon monoxide levels exceed healthy amounts but then reduce within the permitted time limit. This means someone could potentially have repeated intermittent exposure to toxic amounts of carbon monoxide without carbon monoxide alarms necessarily activating. In our case, it activated after I closed the window in the bathroom. For this reason I believe it's not sufficient to rely on carbon monoxide alarms alone. We must also get gas boilers checked and serviced regularly.
