Delicious but somewhat difficult to open. Worth the effort though.

Can is hard to open. Tastes OK
They taste is on the very sweet side but thatโs standard for kabayaki. The texture is on the firmer side for unagi. Itโs definitely a different recipe than what I grew up with. I will go to a restaurant before I buy a can of Japanese eels so this is a cheap alternative. My electric can opener cannot deal with this can.

What is this?
This is by far the worst eel I have ever had. It is grainy and disgustingly sweet. The smell is tolerable but the bones through out are not. Cannot use it for sushi because it falls apart. I would not recommend.

MSG added.
I tasted them and they are quite good. Unfortunately a picture of the ingredients wasn't available and now I see MSG, sugar, salt, wheat and soy are all added. The rest will go to a food bank as MSG gives me severe frontal headaches. No more buying food without full ingredient list.

A guilty pleasure for me.
I try to avoid all foods with added sugar. For this canned eel I make an exception. There are about 10 grams of added sugar per can about 2 servings, it also contains MSG. What I do is chill the cans in the refrigerator congealing the (unhealthy but delicious sauce). Then I roll it in a (with the congealed sauce) in sheet of nori. IMO, Yes the eel is a little dry, however the sauce makes up for that. Are there a lot of crunchy bones? Yes, there are, more than I remember from years ago. Personally I like that particular texture and I suppose that the calcium isn't a bad thing. There are a lot of cheaper and healthier canned fish options on amazon, but I find this eel addictive and keep ordering.

I know good Sushi/Unagi.
The Unagi (eel) in this can is covered in a sauce that has a unique taste that I only know from this canned food product. In regards to that taste, it's actually not to my specific liking. The flavor overpowers the eel so much that you cant even taste the eel at all. Although, the product is eatible, it's nothing as i expected. The unagi in sushi restaurants is tender and of course fresh, the eel in this can has a more dehydrated texture and is firm, with noticable delicate bones as well. The can/serving is small to. ๐ค: โญโญ's.
