Fantastic Hydraulic Impact Driver with Minor Ergonomic Quirks
This driver is fantastic. I bought it to replace my first-generation Makita LXT Sub-Compact as my main driver. It isn't super lightweight, but it feels well-balanced in the hand.I used it to build two separate decks in my backyard, and it’s very powerful for its size. The sound profile is surprisingly pleasant. I was able to use it at noon without getting any noise complaints from the family like I used to with my old driver! The controls are standard and intuitive: a switch for direction select and trigger lock, a variable speed trigger with decent modulation (comparable to Makita), and two gear modes. The LED halo light is extremely bright (and as a bonus, there's a setting that lets you use it as a dedicated flashlight).Overall, it's very easy to use. I like it a lot, but there are two minor quirks to keep in mind:(1) Torque delivery: Because it’s a hydraulic mechanism, you need to hold the tool firmly at lower speeds/gears or it can twist your wrist. Hydraulic drivers sustain peak torque longer than traditional impact drivers (even if the absolute peak torque number is slightly lower), so the sustained push is noticeable.(2) Clearance: For angled driving, it’s best to use longer bits. The nose of the driver is somewhat wide rather than tapered, so the edge of the tool body can collide with studs or surfaces if you try to drive at ANY angle with a short bit.Battery life is great, a single 2.5Ah PowerStack battery lasted me an entire afternoon of driving deck screws while keeping the tool light. If you are already on the DeWalt battery platform, this driver is a great value, even at full retail price. It is too early to tell regarding long-term durability for this specific model, but DeWalt has a solid reputation as a reliable manufacturer, so I expect it to hold up well.

Excellent
Love it. I'm finally migrating from my first generation 20v brushed motor DeWalt impact. I expected it to be less powerful, and somewhat less intuitive. I was totally wrong. The torque multiplication is fantastic, just as good if not BETTER than my old unit (I can't say how it is relatively with the other brushless units, but it's probably a little bit lower performance. Three phase brushless systems are superior in every way you can slice it). It's very quiet, I mean probably less than half the decibels of my original. I set some of the iron works bolts that support my first floor to test; the tool itself makes so little noise it's amazing. The only thing that stood out, noise wise, was the actual impact cycles resonating with the steel beams. My 5 year old was sleeping directly above, and he didn't wake up for any of the eight large fasteners. The speed setting is awesome, but it's not just speed, the torque output is higher on speed two for sure, and I do not mean it makes more impact cycles per second (though it does), the actual torque is significantly higher. The speed setting should not be used as a drive restrictor, even though it probably could be with some practice (ballpark, thumb at arms length with one eye closed type of accuracy). I don't think the few mentions of non intuitive feel are fair or even accurate. Fire off one high friction screw into two pieces of pine, and consider your meatware calibrated. It weighs a lot.... A good deal more than my first gen unit. I'll put it this way, I put one of my 60v flex batteries on, and it was almost balanced just right.Price point is.... Eh. Could be better, but honestly, you get what you pay for. Hydraulic cavitation feels very nice, almost unnatural, but very very satisfying. Overall power is in range of expectations for the class for sure.I'm keeping my first gen for dum dum work, this unit is going to my workshop floor to use with electronics and other sensitive equipment. I frequently use a step down converter to use 5/32 bits with specialty types (no, I don't crank anything down with this, but I sure do break old fasteners free at full force!).The 20m work light is brilliant. Not that I don't already have an entire Division of purpose built lighting... This is just convenient when I don't want to drag another tool out for something quick or unforeseen.Battery consumption is very efficient due to the the phase solid state driven motors. I build these systems at the component level, I know them very well, you can't beat the efficiency and the power at such precision. This is a tank just like most of my DeWalt tools. I seriously doubt I'll be able to break it. You'd have to be a real a***hole to break one of these. I expect it to last indefinitely. I'm not 100% on how the hydraulic housing is configured, and if it will leak in 15 years or something, but I expect it was designed appropriately.Recommended, 10/10....and as a very picky engineer, I don't give anything full marks.

Absolutely an amazing tool!
The power of this hydraulic system is amazing! When I go back and use a regular impact driver I realize how much sheer power the Dewalt hydraulic driver has! I’ve used it to screw oak cabinets together without any problems. I love the power, even at slow speeds there is still intense drive strength. I can’t say enough about this. It’s simply amazing and worth every penny. I’m looking forward to more hydraulic products from Dewalt. It does go through batteries faster than my XR did but who cares. There are easy 3x the light from the XR. The head size is smaller so it fits into tighter spaces. Smaller and more powerful! Genius!

Very strong and quite
Impact gun is great, works as described and is very very powerful torch does. Does not work like normal impacts will drive a screw clean through a 2x4 doesn’t slow down or bog down and is very quiet. High quality best ever had
User
Less noisy, still powerful
Way quieter than a standard impact driver, and it still had enough torque to snap a lag bolt.

Mighty mini
This is without a doubt the best impact driver I’ve ever experienced. It arrived right on time (Amazon prime shipping) and I took it to work with me today to put it to use. At first I wasn’t sure if it was even working. All I could feel was a little ticking in my drilling hand and barely any sound from the tool. Then I saw the 2 1/2” screw just gliding right into the cabinet face frames I was connecting. I used it exclusively on the high speed setting and the variable speed trigger was flawless. In situations where didn’t want to suck the screws up too tightly and needed finesse, I found that I could barely squeeze the trigger and get the most powerfully gentle tapping effect that allowed me to micro manage the tightness I wanted. I say powerfully gentle because this thing will keep on tapping until it pulls the screw through the material or snaps off the head. The tool is very compact and I could easily screw the faceframes of 9” cabinets and the action is extremely smooth. I had very little if any instance of my square drives jumping out of the screw heads. Drove all of my screws today on an aged 5ah dewalt 20v and didn’t drop a bar on the level indicator. It is quieter than my other non impact drivers and if you’re skilled, it will definitely ZIP your screws in at full throttle. I love dewalt tools and this one impressed me very much. Worth every penny and I’ll never go back to any other impact vs this hydraulic dewalt. It is truly a great tool. Super happy with it.

Nice and small!
Love this tool. Took it out of the box and immediately used it working on my truck. I was already in the DeWalt battery ecosystem so adding this tool was a no brainer. I’ve used my drills as a sudo impact driver but drills are just too big to fit into tight spots. This tool is small and light weight to get in those spots drills won’t fit. You simply can work faster than wheel-ding a ratchet.

A silent game changer.
Wow! What a great impact gun. Seriously. I ha e several impact guns, but this is my first hydraulic. It is essential when doing delicate work. The one thing that's weird, or maybe I just don't understand, but it has a 3 position speed switch. Speeds 2 and 3 are exactly the same speed. 1 is quite a bit slower. 1 is excellent for things you want done slowly it's more delicate. However speed 2 and 3 are when you actually want to put the hammer down like driving screws and countersinking them. Not sure why there is no difference in speeds 2 and 3, but again maybe one has more torque but I haven't noticed. Compared to a regular impact it's so quiet. Excellent for inside work as even when torquing down and the impact kicks in it's very quiet. Definitely recommend. I'll probably order another soon. I ha e it paired with a powerstack battery and it has excellent battery life. I use it more often than not. If I'm outside and need more power I'll reach for my XR, but the hydraulic is so quiet and smooth. My boss is a Milwaukee guy, but he often asks to use my hydraulic.

Quiet, Compact, and a Big Improvement Over the DCF887
As an HVAC technician, I recently upgraded from the DCF887 to the new DCF870, and I couldn’t be happier. This impact driver is much quieter, and the hydraulic mechanism greatly reduces vibration, making it easy on the wrist even during long installation jobs. One thing I immediately noticed is that the wobbling issue I had with the 887 model is almost completely gone. The bit feels solid and stable, which gives me more control and accuracy. The compact head design is another huge advantage—it fits perfectly into tight spaces where standard impact drivers just can’t go.Overall, it’s a powerful yet smooth tool that’s ideal for HVAC or any trade work that requires precision in confined areas. Highly recommended.
