Tru-Tension | Laser Monkey | Motorcycle Laser Wheel Alignment Tool

I recently purchased the Laser Monkey by Tru-Tension, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best tools I’ve added to my motorcycle maintenance kit. As someone who rides a belt-driven motorcycle, I was looking for a reliable, precise, and user-friendly alignment tool, and the Laser Monkey exceeded my expectations in every way. First off, the accuracy of this tool is outstanding. The laser aligns perfectly with the center of the belt, giving me confidence that my rear wheel is spot-on every time. Unlike relying on swingarm markers, which can be inconsistent, the Laser Monkey uses a laser to project a clear, precise path along the belt, eliminating any guesswork. I’ve noticed a real difference in the bike’s handling and power delivery since using it—proof that proper alignment makes a difference. Ease of use is another huge win. I’m not a professional mechanic, but I had no trouble figuring this out. You simply attach it to the rear pulley, turn on the laser, and adjust the wheel until the beam lines up with the front pulley. It’s intuitive and quick, taking me less than five minutes from start to finish. The design is straightforward, and the instructions are clear, making it accessible for riders of all skill levels. Setup couldn’t be simpler. The Laser Monkey clamps onto the pulley with adjustable arms, and it’s ready to go in seconds. I can’t give a positive review because unfortunately I am on my second one and both of them didn’t work. The first one came in and the batteries I’m assuming are dead, the adjusting screw was stuck and the laser housing have metal covering the laser lens hole. The second one came in and that one I’m as the battery’s are dead as well but the entire laser and battery contacts are full of a white powdery substance that looks like Corrosion. I honestly wish I was able to get one of them working to give it a review on how it worked just never got that far. Hope the next one has I little better luck than me.

Product description says will work with Motorcycle chain or belt. Will not hold itself accurately to smooth surfaces. No battery numbers provided and mine lasted about 10 minutes on the batteries provided. Once I rigged up a way to hold it to the pulley I think I got the belt very close with the laser and then rechecked with a traditional straight edge. Good idea but the product needs some work.

Batteries drain faster than you can attach and start alignment. I'm going to solder wires running to pack of 3AAA batteries. I might actually get it to function longer than few seconds. Quality construction... just not quality of function. I wish it held 1-2AAA batteries vs. 2 microscopic hearing aid batteries that laser drains in less than a minute.

This tool has a very simple design, it grabs on to your sprocket with two rounded edges. I felt like it's grip on my sprocket was kind of loose and allowed the top of the device to move right and left a little bit. My wheel doesn't spin smoothly when it isn't aligned. The first time I tried to align it with this tool, the wheel wouldn't spin smoothly. I had double checked that if I pointed the laser far on the chain by the front sprocket, or close to the tool & rear sprocket, it was in the middle of the chain. I put the tool back on and found the spot off-center at the front sprocket, so I repeated the steps a second time. I found that I needed to adjust again by an entire turn of the right alignment bolt. Subsequent alignments were off by a full turn of a bolt, while using a laser tool!? That's not right. I tried a third time, and this time I found the spot to be off center at the front and rear sprocket. At this point I just gave up and went back to my old $4.99 generic aluminum and stainless steel tool. I feel scammed, this thing is so expensive! When you take the laser apart to put the batteries in, you can see how cheap that part is, and the rest of it is equal or lower quality. It does not hold on to your sprocket anywhere near well enough. It needs to be made of metal and clamp to the sprocket in a way that aligns it more accurately and repeatably.

The loose tolerances in this tool cause the readings to be virtually meaningless. I clamped the Laser Monkey onto my sprocket, got my chain aligned, took the tool off, put it back on without changing anything else, and the reading was different. I also found that I could "fudge" the reading simply by touching the Laser Monkey. It's almost like a Oujia board - the chain can appear to be aligned or not aligned simply due to tiny, subconcious movements of the Laser Monkey. Definitely not worth the $45 asking price in my opinion - I don't think this does any better job than the $15 Motion Pro stick-on-a-clamp tool.

This laser makes it really easy to align the rear sprocket or pulley. My 2014 indian is very picky about alignment and with this, I was able to get it spot on. The one thing I don’t like is battery life is really short. Literally I could only do one alignment and the laser got weak. Also when I got it, the batteries that came with this were dead

Dont bother to buy that. Its bulky, not sure the laser is aligned, plus didnt receive any battery with it. Contacted the vendor, no answer was provided. Be aware, if u buy from them, you re on ur own if u have a problem

The lazes does not work. This means the device is useless. If I want a refund. I have to send the device back at my own expense. The time and cost will mean I am out of pocket for something that should have worked in the first place. Not happy at all.

Simple to use but you need to make sure it has a solid base to get an accurate reading. Nevertheless it does the job.
