## Overview

Jacquard iDye for Natural Fabrics is a no-mess, dissolvable fabric dye packet designed for cotton, linen, silk, rayon, and viscose. It offers flexible dyeing via washing machine or stovetop, delivering vibrant, permanent colors ideal for clothing restoration, creative textile projects, and fabric upcycling. Each packet dyes up to 3 pounds of fabric evenly, with options to combine with synthetic fiber dyes for unique blended effects.

## Description

Dyeing has never been easier than with iDye from Jacquard! iDye comes in a dissolvable packet, so there are never any messy powders to handle: simply dissolve the packet in the dye bath or drop it in the washer, then add the fabric. iDye is a hot water dye that produces brilliant colors on any natural fabric and may be used on the stovetop or in the washing machine. For fabric blends containing blended fabrics that contain both synthetic and natural fibers, use iDye Natural with the corresponding iDye Poly color at the same time. Or use a two different complementing colors to create a two-tone effect.

Review: Works Great--Follow Instructions! - Well, I can't fault this dye. I followed the instructions and restarted the washing machine after about 5 minutes. Then forgot to set the timer and it washed all the way through. This only gave the dye around a total of 15 minutes to agitate and soak. I used two packs for a 9'x12' painter drop cloth, the really heavy burlap type stuff. It was an of white color, almost cream, but I think it was the material's natural color. I washed the drop cloth first, then applied the dye. The cloth looks red too, a nice bright red. RIT DYE: You don't want to use it to dye natural fabrics, like cotton. Rit dye is a general purpose dye that doesn't do too well with cotton, and it will fade with washings or sunlight exposure. However, if you're dying something that doesn't see much light and gets infrequently washed, rit dye is "ok." Aside from being a general purpose dye and not made exclusively for natural fabrics, Rit dye's main deficiency is that it doesn't dye dark enough, unless you use about twice what is recommended. If you're dying cotton or other natural fabrics, Jacquard dye is what you want, and make sure it's for natural fabrics because they offer a "poly" type for synthetics. They also offer two other types of dyes, but they are much harder to apply. So if you want easy, use the "iDye" type. Fill your washer with hot water (as hot as your hot setting gets). I turned my cold inlet off to initially fill the washer. Drop the packs into the water. They dissolve. Mix it well. Add one cup of salt and mix. Add the fabric and let the washer agitate. The longer you let it agitate/soak, the darker the color. Shoot for around 30 minutes. If you don't want to screw up, like I did, leave the washing machine top open (can't do that with front loaders) so it stops before it goes any further than agitate. Reset and let it go again.
Review: Perfect dye for a Spec Ops break out bag! - Recently, the Army published a few changes to our uniform policy (AR 670-1). The new regulation states that Soldiers may only carry backpacks over the shoulder than are black, or that match the worn uniform (ACU pattern, multicam, etc). I have an OD green backpack that I have carried for 14 years. I have deployed to Iraq with it, and taken it everywhere. It bears the patches and name tapes that reflect my service and skills, and I am very sentimentally attached to it. I hope to pass it on to my eldest son when he is old enough, and when I'm retired. But, sadly, I cannot carry a green backpack anymore, and I just don't want to buy another one. So, with high hopes, I bought a pack of iDye Poly Fabric Dye. It was a bit of a challenge finding a large stock pot big enough to fit the backpack in, but my wife let me use our big spaghetti pot for the job. My German stove wasn't quite able to get the water to a rolling boil as the directions state...it seems the dye and color intensifier raises the boiling point of the water. But I kept it hot, and soaked the backpack in the water for a full hour, agitating it the whole time with some wooden spoons and keeping the backpack completely submerged the whole time. The backpack is 100% cordura nylon, covered with loop fasteners for attaching gear, and has big heavy zippers with para-cord drawstrings, heavy compression straps, and a synthetic lining. I fully expected to find that the dye would have been absorbed at different rates by all the different thicknesses and compositions of material. I figured that the part of the bag that was near the bottom of the thin stainless steel pot would be darker than the parts that were near the surface of the water. However, I was THRILLED to find that the ENTIRE bag is a very uniform, very dark shade of black, and is now totally in compliance with the new regulation. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be able to keep using my old bag! I rinsed it with a hose outside, and then gave it a few soaks in the kitchen sink, with only a slight darkening of the water. I am now giving it a gentle wash with color safe baby detergent, and I'll see how well the color holds without bleeding, but so far, it looks like I will be able to feel totally confident with it slung over my back, rain or shine, without worrying that it will leave any stains on my uniform. I can't praise this product enough. While my opinions are my own, and do not reflect the opinions of the US Army, I hope that any other service members out there that find themselves in my position will look no further than this product. It is 100% exactly what I needed, and it does the job perfectly! Thank you SO MUCH for this wonderful, (and inexpensive) product! It even arrived in record time to my CMR address. Five stars!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The absolute best dye!!
*by S***S on May 7, 2024*

I’ve been using this brand for along time. It doesn’t turn fabric purple when using the black dye. I dyed this sweatshirt that was blue/gray because it had weird pink bleach stains on it. I use a pot on the stove and bring it almost to a boil. Get the garment wet first. I just left it in for only a couple minutes because I didn’t want it to turn super black. Worked amazingly! See photo. I wash it directly after and wash it twice to remove extra dye. The other colors I’ve used work great too. I love the olive color. I wish there was a dark gray but the gunmetal is more of a navy blue gray. And the silver is pretty light! Highly recommend this brand over Rit Dye.
