Light hearted take on difficult content
As a Californian born of Muslim Iranian parents, I visited Iran as a tourist about ten years ago. (FWIW- fantastic cultural experience... the depth of history there is amazing!). I thought this book was a great representation of the comical rules imposed on the beaches in Iran... the curtains into the sea- actually real. I was incredulous when I saw that. I disagree with other reviews that it’s Islamaphobic because it’s not flattering to the morality police in hijabs. I love the whimsical style of the artwork which I think also lightens the mood and I’m thrilled for any opportunity to share my heritage/cultural roots with my young, English-speaking boys... good & bad, as honestly as possible.

My son loves it!
This is a wonderful book that my 2 year old wants me to read over and over and over. It’s a great story with beautiful artwork. I get why some people might be surprised by the imagery of the Islamic Guards but as an Iranian woman, I’m not at all offended by it and I’m not concerned about the image of Muslim women it puts in my sons mind since this book is not a representation of Muslim women. The author is poking fun at the absurdity of the beach guards. People need to lighten up! Buy the book, you’ll love it too!

PICTURES DON'T WORK ON WEB VERSION
This is a beautiful book, and I wanted very much to be able to share it with my students during this time of remote learning. HOWEVER - the pictures do not work on the web version or on the kindle app on my computer. Only on the ipad. I spent an hour with customer service trying to figure it out and did everything he suggested - restarting my computer, deleting the app, reinstalling the newest version, deleting the book, repurchasing the book, re-downloading the book. I think there must be something incorrect or incomplete about how the images are coded. If you are planning on buying this book to read on your computer or web application - don't bother.

Grandson loves it!
I bought this book for my grandson for Christmas 2019, after hearing a very positive review on NPR. My daughter has a PhD in psychology and she thought it a great book for my almost five year old grandson. It should be helpful to him as he is not exposed to a great deal of diversity in his school or neighborhood.

Great depiction of real historic events in this children's book
I found this a great book and really educational for children. Author is depicting real historic events that happened in her homeland to teach children important lessons. I am personally aware of those events and find what is in the book very accurate. The criticisms I see here in reviews are nonsense because all these really happened! the cartoon are beautiful and overall a great book!

Excellent children’s literature
Excellent children’s literature with an accurate depiction of life in modern day Iran which portrays how Iranian children experience life in Iran. Highly recommend it to people interested to learn about and teach their children about various aspects of life in Iran from a child’s perspective. Illustrations are colorful and written text is plenty.

its political!
If you intending to buy this book for your child, you need to know this book is political! Content is jot relevant and seems to be more focused on the Hijab than the actual story!

A picture book NOT for children
Disappointed with this book. It is not for children it’s just political. I bought this for my 4 yr old son who always asks me about Iran but will not be reading it to him, sending it back.
