Well Written Devotional
This is a very well written devotional that I read early in the mornings. Each devotional is long enough to have good depth of subject- making me think about my reading. I was not expecting to find such depth of thought in this volume-but- there it is. You won't regret getting New Morning Mercies. I like the TruTone edition as it just feels good in the hands.

A thoughtful--and growth-focused--way to start (or end!) your day
I already had Paul David Tripp’s Advent devotional, “Come Let Us Adore Him,” and, since my husband and I have really enjoyed it, I was excited to spot this daily devotional also written by him. I am not disappointed!First, the physical format of this book is a delight to hold in your hands—the “TruTone” material of the cover feels substantial yet “soft” to touch. The text used with this edition is a clean typeface, with enough space between the lines to help these 66-year-old eyes track the words easily. The binding has been sturdy for me and I don’t anticipate that changing with use; the pages are well-secured. I appreciate the ribbon marker so I can just open up to the day’s reading—however I must admit that, since I got this book mid-year, I’ve also sampled the “earlier” part of the book—it’s that good! While each day’s entry is on a single page, this is not a “fluffy” devotional by any means; don’t look for a story or anecdote each day that makes you smile (and can be easy to forget). Instead, you’ll find Tripp’s thoughtful—and often personally convicting—“takes” on topics that matter (or should matter!) to Christians, whether new to the faith or those who’ve known of Christ’s salvation for decades. In my readings so far, Tripp doesn’t shy away from calling Christians to task to consider looking at living out the Christian life in a “new to them” way. This is not an easy devotional—it is a solid bite of healthy food for the soul, even if you think you may prefer sweets! This is not to discourage the casual reader from the book—instead I find that the challenging ideas Tripp explains are so rewarding to chew on that I look forward to it each day.At the conclusion of each entry is a Biblical citation directing the reader to “further study.” I find that Tripp’s writing in this devotional frequently piques my interest and I’m eager to read more for “further study”—always a plus for me in a devotional.

Too "Me" Centered to Be Really Helpful
I have appreciated Paul Tripp's writing before. His "Whiter than Snow" is excellent, and as young parents my wife and I appreciated his work on child rearing. This volume just seems too focused on "me" rather than "Thee." We are led to believe that God's morning mercies are primarily to make us feel better rather than to sustain us for doing His will. Give me Robert Hawker or J. C. Ryle. This just oozes happy-clappy, feel-good gospel to me. My opinion isn't helped by endorsements from Sam Allberry and J. D. Greear. Why? Just why? The answer is the wokeness that has affected Tripp and watered down his message and effectiveness. There are some good nuggets here, but I think the overall impression left on one who makes this her daily devotional reading will be more focus on self and less vision of the Almighty and His will in our lives.
