Problem solved--2 years and counting
Repeat customer here. A couple years ago I solved a recurring problem with phoebes building their nasty nest in the corners of my front porch. Nothing had worked until I installed these simple filaments. Two years later the filaments are still in place but no more phoebes. I just bought some more to deter them from a new location: above an exterior light. The perfect product: it's cheap, it's simple, and it works! I cannot speak to its use with swallows or bats.

Works well.
Works well. Keeps the birds from getting on the surface you don't want them on. You can't put your fingers on it, afterwards. Gloves is necesssary when you're doing it. The stuff is really sticky.

Wow, not great!
Update, the swallows knocked down this junk and built their nest where it used to be. I reiterate, this is junk! So we installed these just outside our front door where the barn swallows nest each year. About an hour after the installation, I see a barn swallow sitting on the start of a brand new nest, directly behind the little strings, (which is just fishing line by the way) and I swear that flipping bird smiled at me. Well year after year I have to wait until the little birds hatch and defecate all over the brick and the porch and then I get to power wash the leftovers and bathe in their filth. This product deterred nothing! I knocked a full blown nest down today and the birds are constantly flying in and out (no eggs, donโt panic). What a total waste. The product stayed in place but the birds used it as a curtain so they could make more birds behind it. My suggestion is get your own fishing line and hang a few for less than a buck.

It works.
I finally tried this swallow shield on the ceiling. After clean up the surface, pill the red protective tape of the double sided tape and glue on the ceiling. So far I used it for one day, the swallow did NOT return!! It looks simple but works. I stickly tape is a little hard to pill, I guess is becasue I bougth it almost a year ago and use it now. I live in the area where has HOA, and the good part is I checked with the HOA personal and they approved the use of this product.

It really works!!!
I purchased this product to keep the swallows from perching over my front entry door. I was at my very end as I have tried everything else and nothing worked at all. I tried the fake owls and rubber snakes, the mirror like discs that you hang, the bird scare tape and even the bird away spray. I will assure you that none of these items worked at all but when I hung this product, it worked immediately. I was mad at myself for not trying it sooner and spending all of the other money I had spent on useless products. The birds will no longer sit on the top of my door ledge but however, they have now moved to sit on the top of the front porch light. Since this product is really close to fishing wire/line, I'm now going to buy a roll of that to make something that will keep them off the light.... should be an easy fix. If you are having issues with birds trying to nest, you should get this, it really worked for me when nothing else did.

Seems to work
I bought tons of products to deter swallows and this one seems to be the only one that is working. I bought two packs and hung them above window and door ledges. The swallows will not land on the ledges with these there. There are still landing and rebuilding nests everywhere else where this product was not installed but where we hung these they are not landing. So the product (the strings) really are deterring them. But it only works where you have it of course. Very simple easy install, just peel off and stick up, very thick double sided tape that looks like itโll hold awhile. They are very short in width so we had to use 4 per window or door. Would be nice if they were wider or had more in a pack. Would also be helpful if they made different lengths, these are very short. So it does work where you have them but nowhere else.

Safe Effective Deterrent for Swallows
We have barn swallows that like to build nests under our eaves and around our porch support posts. For the most part we enjoy having them there to help keep down the insect population. They are aerial insectivores, catching their prey while flying. This includes a variety of insects such as flies, beetles, wasps, wild bees, winged ants. They also consume moths, damselflies, grasshoppers, and other insects, as well as some spiders and snails. However, they also like to attempt to expand their neighborhood every spring by adding new nests. And that is where we draw the line. We have found that these strips of plastic with clear monofilament line and an adhesive surface to attach them have proven to be very effective at limiting their expansion to unwanted areas of our porch. They effectively prevent them from landing on the parts of the porch we want to keep clear by confusing them when their wings hit the clear lines hanging down about 10 inches from the surface. In order to build their mud and grass nests, they need to be able to land to build the nest. I can highly recommend them as a natural, non-harmful, effective way to control access to areas you want to protect from them building upon. The strips are very durable and the stickiness of the adhesive they use is very good, having survived the heat and cold of central Texas for over 3 years since we started using them. This makes them a very good value for the money in my opinion.

Best Solution!
We have tried everything to get the barn swallows to stop making a nest on our front porch - tin foil strips, rubber snakes...everything suggested. I ordered two of these and no birds! You cannot see them either. Highly recommend!

Fantastic product
This product is almost invisible when installed. It completely deterred cliff swallow from nesting under our roof peaks. Yes the swallows are lovely but they make huge mud nests and are very dirty. Best they nest in actual cliffs. This product worked perfectly.
