Great! Simple! Sharp!
Good experience. The package arrived earlier than quoted and the product works great! I read many Amazon reviews on this product and a few stated the packaging was worn and the product was used with a dull blade. I can now understand why some people may have been confused. The packaging was a little shelf worn, but it was also sealed - so I do believe this was a new product. Also - the installed blade did have some scuffs on it. Honestly - I thought, SONOFAGUN! This is refurbished or something. BUT NO - my husband, who is a machinist, looked at it and pointed out the top side of the blade is not the finished side. The scuffs on the top side are normal marks from machining the blade. The underside was shiny, unmarred, and SHARP. SO. SHARP. I am very happy with this product - it is just what I needed. I am also happy I went simple, tried and true. I read many 3rd party reviews of mandolins in general (if you've looked - you know there are many degrees of complexity and price available) and the Benriner was frequently tops citing simplicity and value. I have to say I agree. It is not complicated and the price is right. I'm happy!

It is a must buy for those who like perfect slicing
I was impressed by the weight and quality of the unit. It sliced up a Brussels sprout into perfect thin slices. I think I am going to love this Madeline.

Makes life a lot easier
I love cooking and have little time to do it (2 kids, job, workout schedule, etc). I had mandolin slicers before, with all the extras attachments and rubber feet, etc. I saw this one consistently on the Food Network shows such as Iron Chef, where real chefs are preparing food. It always amazed me how easy they seem to be and how hard it was for me to do the same slicing on my regular slicers. The I bought this one. It is such a good price for an amazing product. I had it for a year now (just bought another one for my mother), in seconds I can slice onions, julienne carrots, beets, cabbage, etc, throw them in a pan and have veggies as a side dish. Pros: -Very sharp and easy to use -Simple, 3 blades and a little screw to regulate the thickness, that's it -In one year, it is as sharp as it was when I opened the package Cons: -Dangerous - it is so sharp it is easy to cut yourself. I bought safety gloves with it, after a few months of practice I let go of the gloves, but you always have to be careful, this is sharp -The blue thing that comes to help hold on to whatever you are shredding doesn't help at all as other reviewers pointed out I recommend this to friends and family I'd buy it again

Excellent product but use with care
I'd never used a mandoline before, but wanting to make sweet potato chips I decided to buy this after reading the reviews on Amazon. I haven't used any of the accompanying blades, only the slicer; but I feel it was well worth the price. PROS: The first time I used it, I sliced two medium-large sweet potatoes, potato chip thin, in less than four minutes, being careful since I didn't use a cut-proof glove. The slices were of uniform thickness even though I paid minimum attention to using even pressure. The mandoline is sturdy and the thickness of slices is easily adjusted. Since my sweet potatoes were wide enough to use the entire blade's width, I was initially concerned about food getting stuck behind the blade and in crevaces, especially on the sides; but this was not the case. I cleaned it easily and completely with no problem. CONS: Having used this product a number of times now, I tend to go faster with my slicing so use a cut-proof glove to stay safe. The other reviewers were correct in saying that the guard is, at best, a holder that can slip if you're not careful. Also, the instructions are primarily in Asian characters, with only brief English descriptions. However, between the clear illustrations, and the accompanying words, it didn't take me long to figure out exactly how to use it. I mention this as a negative only because some people might be daunted by the minimal English in comparison to the amount written in other characters. Overall,I couldn't be more pleased and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to anyone, even a beginner. It's simple to use and does a great job! As far as I'm concerned, this is a real keeper!
