There's so few reviews of the XGIMI Horizon S Pro, but wait...
...mine arrived over the weekend and in summary, I'm incredibly happy with it vs some of the competition I was looking at ranging from C1, DBOX02, C2 Ultra, JMGO N1S (all the ones)...I haven't done a comparison side by side but the key thing here is, value to gain ratio given some of those. So why was I nervous about purchasing? I searched Reddit and advanced search on Google, found only a handful of info that resembled any form of actual use vs 'it's coming...' and all reviews focus on the S Max which is brighter and has Imax (that's the only difference). My take of the S Pro:- Out of box experience was good, well packaged, not many bits to it and comes pre-assembled with the gimble. It's literally plug and play. For the stand, some nice instructions built into the packaging but self explanatory and has some good weight to it.- Turning on the projector, I could immediately see it was bright. I was in a room, daytime, projecting it against my wall initially (dark salmon with a picture rail and white above). The clarity was fantastic. I could see the difference in projecting onto white/vs darker backgrounds... Given the brightness I was keen to explore darker screens (more on that shortly). You can pick dual projection or laser. Dual uses LED/Laser I believe and it shows you the difference as you do it, dual seemed bright and clear so kept with that.- The OS - I hear a lot of concerns about this, yes it doesn't have Netflix but outside of this, navigation was smooth and easy. Didn't feel like an old UI either. Perfect for playing around with it but I will explore a tv stick/Apple TV as I want Netflix and their web ui workaround is not good. So keep that in mind if you use Netflix.- Picture quality - I went straight onto some 4k streaming platforms like Disney+, YouTube etc. The quality was fantastic. Good brightness in daytime, better at night of course to the point where I needed to turn down the brightness (it can do this automatically) as it was straining my eyes. Within the settings, there's tons on the picture. I won't go into detail but you have HDR, Dynamic Contrast, Dolby Vision etc. There's a wall colour correction too which is quite interesting even when used on a projector screen, I preferred the colour this produced. Vivid, good contrasts. I've uploaded a few pics (some on a wall with the project at quite an angle beaming on to the wall, it handles it fantastically. Then a few with my temp 100" screen (explain below). Ignore the creases, it was to validate the size of a projector screen I've ordered.- Concern of laser speckling - the screen can contribute from my understanding but given I put it on a screen and on a wall, no sign of anything. Just super clear crisp image. This is on dual light worth noting.- Out of the box, I projected it on a dark salmon coloured wall & I have white above, you can see the difference in that the contrast is even darker (as you’d expect). I’ll include a pic. I prefer this. I have a temporary 100" white projector screen that must be quite high gain as it didn’t specify but it definitely reflects so I’m guessing 1.2-1.5gain (non matte). Picture looked great but given the ‘wall’ experience, I’ve just ordered a grey screen with 0.8 gain. Should be arriving this week. I’m hoping to replicate darker contrast as I don't plan to use it in total darkness. I'll share once I've received/installed it.- No optical Zoom / lens shift - I'm impressed here. My position of the projector will move, I don't have it in a fixed position or ceiling mounted. I've used digital zoom when the projector needed to be closer to the screen, perhaps 2m, instead of 2.6m to get 100", no sign of reduced quality and not shadow of light where the picture corrects. The key stone correction is great, it can be automatic (along with focus) or can do both manually, very easy. You an also project from an angle. Again it shifts the focus and the gimble is also very helpful in this scenario. My initial concerns of my user case of the projector moving were wasted as it's not an issue. Very versatile.- The sound...Modify audio settings to get the best sound, there’s a setting called balance audio or similar. Night and day when you enable that. The speakers are actually really good! Much better than any tv speakers, I've not maxed it out but at half volume, it's very loud. It won't replicate a good sound system but a basic soundbar with no amp, easily comparable. I'm debating whether I Apple TV & connect HomePods but realistically the sound is good so I'm tempted to 4k Roku stick it for Netflix and it's cheaper. So in summary, after many many hours of researching and my initial budget of being a lot higher to align with the C2 / JMGO NIS Ultimate, I'm glad I didn't spend double. I'm sure they're good but for the quality of the S Pro, I'm not left wanting anything else or thinking 'I wish it could do this' )with the exception of Netflix). It's a fantastic projector and if you're on the fence between this and spending more on the S Max, hopefully this reassures you. I'll share a few pics, I'm sure I can get better but I'll sort that when I have a proper screen setup. Hope this helps for those looking!Ps. excuse the colours in the picture, it's more to show brightness, my camera decided to over expose blues / and create a magenta hue on the last couple. But you see the brightness etc. LOVE IT.Update - a week on, I got my 0.8 grain grey screen. Incredibly happy with the picture. You can have lights on in the room and still see the picture clearly… further images attached. Fantastic projector. A shame about Netflix so I will be getting a tv stick for that but not a deal breaker by any means. Movie night genuinely feels like a cinema now.

Awesome picture
Amazing picture quality and brightness. My previous projector struggled in certain light scenarios but the Horizon Pro Max has zero issue. The picture quality for a projector of this price point is brilliant.

Image Quality/Brightness alone this outshines most competitors, yet with unnecessary R&D choices
The media could not be loaded. Ordered via view. This XGIMI Horizon Max was long awaited after being released several months before in China. And the first disappointment, although I'm not rating it based on this fact. Is that the Chinese version was not only several hundred lumens brighter, but it included additional HDMI ports and some other features than for some reason they decided to omit and not include in the EU version. I know this was a big disappointment to many, because at 3100 ISO lumens (not to 31,000 which is an error in the Amazon listing) this is among the brightest 4K UHD projectors of it's kind and it's £1700 RRP, even brighter than the Dangbei DBOX02 which was 2450 ISO lumens. Some were expecting an upgrade over the0.47” DMD chip. I do not know if that was becomes of some overheating issues and recall stories than I read, or just an upgrade over the same chip in the previous Horizon model. But call that speculation as it's just opinions I read before receiving the product. So the chip is not an upgrade, however the entire unit is redesigned and different altogether, whilst I can feel some heat coming from the vents, being a new model one would hope as with any upgrade, they are done more than enough upgrades and entirely new features such that I would assume they would have addressed any issues that might have existed in the previous modeL. It's certainly a complete redesign besides the chip.As for the design, and it's almost beige creamy colour, to me it looks visually fantastic although my photos are terrible. As soon as it's activated, the Dust screen protector lowers automatically and that is somewhat cinematic on it's own. The gimbal on here is integrated and included, so you needn't buy one separately. As well as 180 degrees rotation for ceiling projection, the force the adjust it is balanced perfectly - not motorised like the Chinese release model. And on the underside we have a rotating base plate that similarly allows for easy rotation, there's also a mount screw hole that's gold plated that will appeal to some no doubt.Beneath the fabric-like premium material electronic slide down cover section that moves to reveal all the lense, tri-laser and Dual lense technology, both the 3D module and CMOS high precision module are all covered/protected until you power it on. There are some contrasting silver ventilation grilles underneath here which look appropriately premium in a sparkling silver finish and stylish for the price. And of course the "Sound by Harman/Kardon logo in black and gold, which is very much like a badge made of some premium material that similarly contrasts well with bottom right section of the silver cover, which itself is made from some kind of tough and robust material, it will not be scratched easily and it appears like some kind of switched-like appearance, yet it's neither soft or fabric. The very top of the off-white unit has a subtle XGIMI logo debossed in the middle, but if you look closely they've given this entire top section some sort of premium and contrasting textured finish compared to the smooth panels all round. Overall it all looks rather nice and like a £1700 projector should, with the off white colour plus the subtle labeling and styling giving it a minimalistic look, yet with enough styling features/contrasting textures and the black and gold badges that make it look like it's RRP. Very different to the DXOX02 that was even more flashy, but it has a high quality appearance and construction. On the rear at the very top we have the Power on button with LED, followed by the HDMI/eArc and then 2x USB 2.0s. Each of this are labelled underneath with the same debossed subtle stylish but so you don't notice it unless you are looking to use the ports. And these are precisely in the middle so somewhat annoyingly we have enough space either side of the ports and power ON/OFF to fit another 3 ports on both sides of it! Not that it needs 9 ports in total but basically there is space for an additional 6 HDMI and/or USB if they had wanted - I think an extra HDMI or two and Digital Optical output alone would have still looked rather tidy and not cluttered, still with lots of space either side.Underneath this we have a large section of ventilation in 6 columns which does not look unattractive, and underneath that, whether it's simply for styling or not they have surrounded the ventilation columns each side and underneath with several lines, which have nice curvature on the edges, smoothly moulded and avoiding any unattractive sharp edges. It does not take away anything from the appearance, and I would guess these are actually functional plastic heatsink rows, which like a regular metal heatsink increase the surface area and would improve heat dissipation and overall temp of the unit. And they've achieved this very well, this being the case it looks like nothing more than styling and again this rear section regardless of the obvious colums with vents, they've achieved this rather well such that you'll probably not even notice or realise, assuming it's styling alone. Either way, the entireity of the unit does looks great. When in use and the lens is exposed, it does pickup dust underneath the circular lense likely inevitable and due to the heat, but it's simple to wipe off with a small microfiber cloth, though it takes a while to build up such that it's even necessary and putting a protective screen across it would have looked unattractive I think. So where does this projector fall, with so many competitors and more appearing at this time of year.Firstly this has some real unique Pros, but also combined with a mix of cons. Some of which are subjective and can be easily overlooked, or worked around with an adapter. As far as picture is concerned, two of my photos were at my friends house who had a proper projector setup. Because for this price, I insist on a 200" setup, not that 100" is small but it's my personal view that to spend this kind of money, as opposed to a 75" OLED or high end TV I really would not spend this kind of money without really utilising its full potential, in terms on the largest 200" high quality projector screen possible - and crucially for me since 200" is virtually a cinema within your home, for the ultimate Cinematic experience and especially as this is IMAX enhanced. You would benefit greatly from a sufficiently powerful and high end 2.1 or 5.1 external active or amplified sound system, since it has Dolby also you cannot feel the true immersive and powerful audio potential without a sufficiently high end sound system, even a 155W Edifier 2.1 sells for as little as £310 and ideally combined with a Fiio K7 DAC/AMP - I have this sound system still and although they are not monitors the musical and all round frequency response would elevate your sound 10 fold - I know as I still use mine and i'm an audiophile, for a permanent home setup, if i didn't already have my own Audiophile and quite expensive system, the Edifier 360DB alone is far better than any sound bar and especially if you have the space, a huge living room or dedicated mancave then to me maximising the sound is almost equally as important. However, the lack of a Digital Optical output and only a single HDMI output is a problem. Though it has dual band WIFI and Bluetooth 5.1, without LDAC Hi res codecs even if you could pair this via bluetooth to your external sound system, which an Edifier 360DB and Fiio K7 can. It would still sound fantastic but wired connections offer higher bit depth, same rate and lossless audio quality - It would be silly to connect this to a very high end sound system of any type via Bluetooth as whether you notice or not, you'd get proper lossless quality just from a 3.5mm headphone out.I'm not sure how you'f achieve true lossless sound since all it can offer is standard non Hi Res audio codecs, even if many, many high end Bluetooth DAC/AMP receivers or Speaker systems themselves support LDAC, the XGIMI does not. However, assuming you can connect this to a wireless streamer such as the Wiim Pro, I don't have one anymore to try it but that would be the best bet for lossless audio, at least 24bit 192khz which would be better than most sources can provide.Otherwise you'd have Cinematic level image quality, but over bluetooth even with a high end system you are not getting even CD quality sound. As for the 2x 12W Harman Kardon speakers, and this supports Dolby Audio, DTS HD, DTS Virtual X, Dolby Digital Plus among other things I may have missed. But at full volume do go very loud, they do sound like Hi definition drivers and in a moderate sized room you can totally listen via the integrated speakers. Since they're designed by a big brand, although these details are not mentioned, there could well be some Planar tweeters in there somewhere. If there is DSP its not mentioned, and this is what made the Yaber K3 sound fantastic, if not better. But I can't say I tested them back to back they both sound great and do a good job of imitating a surround sound. And like ann integrated speakers, they clearly have very good frequency response on the mid to upper ranges, and as integrated speakers go they do their best to provide as much as then can within the physical limitations.Naturally this would be greatly enhanced by a large 2.0 system or better 2.1 with subwoofer, the reason subwoofers exist is because they need a certain diameter ideally 8" to 12" are used in home or car systems, the larger the subwoofer the more accurately and more mid to sub 160hz or so frequencies it can provide. Which until you have one, or compare to being within a cinema you do not know that you are missing a broad frequency of sound, whether it's for music or for movies which naturally have many low frequencies sounds in them, all movies do.To give you an idea, on my Audiophile setup thats a mini studio I was watching the last James Bond No Time to die late at night. And on the scene where James is at vespers grave, before the huge explosion the scene is quiet and my volume was a bit too high.So when the literal comb exploded during the movie, on my high fidelity speakers - if my neighbours didnt already know I existed. When the bomb exploded, my full range speakers, DAC/AMP and subwoofer produced what in real life sounded like a gas explosion has occurred in the building, since it was able to fully reproduce both low mid and upper frequencies so clearly, you could not tell the difference from a real explosion in my studio, or that I was simply watching a movie. And I got an e-mail about that a few days later, but I think I've made the point! In my video the volume isn't all the way up, and projecting it onto my ceiling, it still looked fantastic before I had done any tweaking. But at my friends house on a modest sized projector screen, the image quality was the best I had ever seen, even on my poorly paint ceiling I could have watched it.As well as Tri-laser and DLP, one more of the highlights of this projector, as well as IMAX enhanced for content that supports it. In terms of just picture brightness, the Dynamic 1000000:1 contrast ratio, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision. It's the best 4K projector I've tested, the images are super sharp and it's actually bright enough to be used with some reasonable ambient lighting no problem, you'll only notice the dark images but as is always the case for all out image quality. low ambient light/darkness will produce optimum results. Also it claims the colour gamut area ratio is 110% under the BT.2020 standard. 5. SGS Professional Color Accuracy, it has a high light transmission coated lense. And if i'm to list all of it's features then SGS Low Blue Light Certification, Low Speckle A+ Certification, Low Color Breakup Ratio A+ Certification, Reduced Glare, Reduced Flicker" more comfortable viewing experience" - It certainly has eye protection. There is a game mode which claims less than 20ms latency which is more notable and certainly going to be appealing for any Gamers. As for the single HDMI input, this will put many off. And since the chinese version has 2 HDMI inputs. and also 2 USB, the gimbal is automatic/motorised and has optical zoom as well as being heavier and different in design. So I wont comment on a different product or the Chinese model with the same name, which some have actually bought instead as its also much cheaper in YEN anyway. Since I need to stick to reviewing this product, though its worth mentioning.Obviously a single HDMI port is not enough, why they could not add a second or even a digital optical out or wired audio output of some sort I don't know. Also I think I can safely say, people were hoping for Google TV instead of Android TV as it is most definitely the most popular, and the lack of it may put some off this alone vs its competitors of which there are several, not that you can't buy a streaming stick of your choice to access any content you prefer. I've also heard you can actually pair a Googlem 4K Stick and use this to pair it via WIFI on the same network, to a network streamer but I cannot independently verify. So with this being a very new release there isn't a great deal of info around, so I suggest you do your research if you have a planned or existing setup and whether it's connectivity is supported or not.I did actually register to warranty to make an inquiry, using my order number. And I don't have good news to say about that. With XGIMI already having some horror stories with expensive warranty returns. When I went to the UK support site, which you have to register the product to make a support ticket. I used to necessary Amazon order number, and I asked them about connectivity support to WIFI streamers or any WIFI audio device actually. I'm sorry to say, that nearly 3 weeks later I received no response at all. Whether this is because they realised it was a vine order number and had no intentions of even answering my inquiry I do not know. I also asked them for their unique remote control code in order to control the Firestick remote for volume control. It's understandable being such a a new device, but strangely as I scrolled through all of the TV/projector brands, Dangbei and Yaber where there. XGIMI was not even listed. I can't necessary blame this on XGIMI since this model is brand new. This may be something that XGIMI should be able to provide via the enquiry, luckily it was not a serious issue or fault. But thats only for volume control. I simply used one of the XGIMI remotes instead for the volume. However one other thing that I really did not find reassuring - if I had a genuine warranty issue or similar. Is their UK warranty registration and website had one of those AI assistant chats. And on the chat it said that agents are available between 9AM and 9PM CTS or some time zone. But after repeatedly returning to check, during the time zone they claimed to provide live agent support.?I quickly realised this was not true at all. No matter what time of day you hit the "speak to agent" button, it only offers you a basic e-mail based support ticket. So on their own UK support page and after registering, their claimed hours of support were entirely fake. In reality they did not have any, and the AI assistant would only offer you e-mail, 24/7 and even well within the claimed live agent hours. So this page was entirely false, dishonest and misleading - It only looked good probably for anybody who found themselves on the support page - But it was quite intentionally not true. This is really not reassuring, and when I contacted Dangbei through Amazon though got back to my immediately, were extremely polite, thanked me for my purchase - knowing I had got it for free on vine.So I would not want to find myself with a defect or warranty claim issue when XGIMI UK do not respond even when you are required to register your warranty. And yes I checked my Junk/spam folders - so do with that what you will. I have heard bad stories of XGIMI and to be honest this experience would impact my decision to spend money on a product even with the warranty period. As for the single HDMI port, if you have multiple ports and sources, you don't need to spend more than £20-£30 if you want a 4x port HDMI switch solving that issue, you can even get one with a remote control if desired but the simple button switch ones are not too big in size, though they need their own power source, a plug with a small DC input. So really all of this could have been avoided with a 2nd or why even 3rd HDMI, which is eArc by the way. I personally would have liked a digital audio out, but some might not. IF this can be connected to Audio streamers, then fantastic. But I returned my Wiim so I could not try, if thats something you're interested in for lossless and wireless audio to any high end system them it's worth researching and validating if that's possible.I had no issue setting it up, it does have a giant power brick that must weigh 1KG.But moving onto its design, it's a very attractive projector in my opinion.Though I tested this with a firestick which worked no problem, it can be powered by one of the XGIMIs USB ports by the way which keeps things tidy. The UI of the XGIMI is fine, though I don't have too many to compare it to. It goes without saying that it comes with Auto Keystone correction that can be toggled to auto or manual - in auto it instantly adjusts when necessary, Manual screen adjustment, Auto obstacle avoidance definitely worked well on my ceiling. It also weighs under 5KG, 4.8kg so whilst not a portable class, and with the giant power brick, it's not a challenge to transport this to other rooms, to other houses even. The remote control is superb quality and intuitive to use.Naturally Android TV is pretty good, but GoogleTV is certainly more popular as projectors go. This may may be a subjective dealbreaker for some.I've hit the 20,000 character limit. So to conclude If you want all out supreme image quality, with 3100 lumens, Dual Lense technology which looks very slightly better when I tested it, but would probably be more noticeable in proper conditions on a big screen. And without repeating all of the features again, if you want the very brightest and best picture for £1700, bearing in mind this time of the year discounts could happen at any time with any model. This is certainly up there as one of the best performing projectors for around £1700 in terms of outright image quality and I have to mention iMax which makes it quite unique. Then this has to be among the top 5 you could buy for the contrast ratio and image quality and performance. If the single HDMI bothers you, you can buy a small HDMI manual switch for not a lot of money. Yes in virtually all its rivals you at least have a second HDMI or more, plus other ports. So for wired/Port connectivity its far from perfect, though whether this is a deal breaker or not, is going to depend on your scenario and desired applications. For integrated speaker usage and not external speaker usage, this also does very well with Harman/Kardon speakers I would imagine they have some finely tuned speakers in there, and efficient even at 12W.But even with basic codec support, connecting this to any 2.1 powerful system will be Night & Day difference. And if via the dual band WIFI connectivity, connection to digital streamers is possible, that would mean lossless audio is possible - though I can't verify that and XGIMI did not get back to me on that inquiry. I must admit, I am not 100% reassured with XGIMIS UK customer service, or lack thereof. So whilst far from perfect, in both image/brightness/contrast, outright performance. And also the appearance and styling is superb in my opinion. No high end features are missing, they all work well..Bear in mind - the video is on my ceiling not even a projector, so take this into account. In reality on a projector it looks remarkable.

Stunning!
The media could not be loaded. This projector looks even better in real life. It’s hard to capture on camera as it tends to show the colours saturated. Unfortunately you have to see it to believe it. This room was indirectly day lit and the image was brilliant. In a dark room you’ll enjoy a true home cinema experience.Value for money considering this isn’t the max version. Very happy we chose this!

Poor interface and software
There is no Lan interface. On 4k projector this should be standard... Fine, got the adapter. There is no..... NETFLIX??? you can have some hacky way of getting it BUT NOT IN 4k! :D. Ok you can get yet another adapter.... And Lan interface for it as well... You can see where I'm going with this? The setup is horrible. The software is not prepared for UK market. Final cherry on top is that I had 2 4k dongles just to bring Netflix, but you just can't configure remotes to control the projector itself....

Great Projector, user friendly excellent picture.
Excellent Projector. Ours is in a room 5m x 5m with a large wall to project onto. It is inobtrusive and picture fills the wall. We had the XGIMI Pro before its light failed at 3yrs 3 months! We bought our S Max direct from XGIMI UK for the same price as her and got 2 x 3D Glasses and a TV stick free. Delivery was 2 days receiving from DPD on a Saturday.
