What an absolute beast!
The version 5 of the Rhasberry Pi is incredible. The performance is overkill for most jobs in the best way. The ability to add a M.2 is also awesome. Overall I love this little computer. If you are looking for something to run scripts on or virtual machines it doesn't get much better then this. I personally use it to run small automations for me and it is phenomenal for that. The build quality is also fantastic. You get a ton of usb ports and a full size ethernet port as well! When it comes to value for money I think this is a steal for the amount of raw power you get. If you look at it from an actual use point though its way more then most people including myself will ever use. Hope that helps thanks for reading!

It's a Pi 5
While pricey, Pi 5's are handy little devices for home lab projects.

Incredible performance upgrade, but total overkill for basic projects
I picked up the 4GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 to build a multi-room laser tripwire security system for a school coding project. While the performance upgrade over the older models is absolutely massive, it definitely introduces a few new headaches you need to plan for. The Good Stuff The speed on this board is wild. Running python scripts to monitor the GPIO pins for the photoresistors and trigger the buzzer response is instantaneous. I even hooked up an old USB web camera to capture a snapshot whenever the laser beam gets broken, and the Pi 5 handles processing the video feed and sending out the email alerts without breaking a sweat. It also finally has a dedicated power button on the board, which is so nice when you're constantly resetting things during testing. The Annoying Stuff This thing runs hot. Like, really hot. If you're building a compact enclosure or a hidden case for your tripwire components, you absolutely cannot get away with a bare board anymore. You have to buy the active cooling fan/heatsink or it throttles immediately. They also changed the power delivery, so you have to buy their specific 27W power supply to keep the USB ports and pins properly powered. Also, because they changed up the internal architecture, some of my older jumper cables and breakout HATs didn't fit right, so I had to buy a few new adapters just to get my breadboard circuit wired up. The Verdict If you just want to build a simple, single-beam laser tripwire, the Pi 5 is honestly complete overkill and you're better off using a cheap Pi Pico or an old Pi 3. But if you want a powerhouse board that can handle lasers, camera feeds, and heavy scripts all at the same time, it’s a beast—just be prepared to spend an extra $30 on the fan and the power brick to actually get it running safely.

It works! It's a Pi!
It's my 3rd Pi in this lifetime and it works. Obviously better than the 2 and 3 models I have. I use it for home automation and it is a better choice than the pre-fab ones I really don't like.

Tiny computer energy
Small, affordable, and exactly what a Raspberry Pi is supposed to be. Solid performance, tons of flexibility, and great value for tinkering and projects.

Fiable, puissant, super.
