The poll/rod isn't hard to pull down (as i thought), it has a spring that kicks in. When hanging clothes backup, your rod/poll springs back by itself into place, with a little lift from you. I was nervous ordering without any reviews but it has worked great so far! ### ⭐⭐ Not sure where this would be used *by J***H on August 4, 2025* The good: It is a substantial piece. It's got heft. It feels like if you get it mounted securely to the wall, it will hold whatever you want to hang from it. It comes substantially assembled. There are instructions included. The finish is nice, and it's a fine-looking piece of . . . well that's just it. What it is exactly? An alternative to a traditional closet rod? It's not clear to me what problem this is solving. It's ostensibly a bar onto which you hang clothes, not unlike the function that a wardrobe or closet with a bar already solves for. The rod is about 2', so I suppose if you ever find yourself 2' short of hanging space, have 2' of horizontal wall space, but cannot for some reason install a standard clothes hanging bar, but instead can only mount your needed 2' bar to the back wall, then this is probably a product for you. But otherwise, I struggle to see what scenario this makes sense. Yes, it folds up and down (space saver for when you aren't using it to hang clothes). But the horizontal bar doesn't go anywhere. It is still taking up 2' of horizontal space. The fold up feature only changes the height at which the bar sits. You still have to have 2' of uninterrupted space along the wall where you mount it in order to use it. Which again, seems like a pretty narrow set of circumstances. I suppose you could use it in a laundry room where you wouldn't want a full time closet, but where you have perpetual access to 2' of wall space, and find it convenient to store the horizonal bar high when not in use. In which case, this is probably ideal for you. I could see it working in a small laundry room. However, my unit didn't work. The vertical bar, onto which the horizontal clothes hanging bar is mounted, and which is supposed to move up and down to store the bar when not in use, would not release from its vertical position. I could not be pulled down at all. I suppose it could be user error ... but it just seemed jammed. Which gets me to the instructions, which are fairly limited. There is not much to assemble. But as I could not move the vertical piece up down at all, I consulted the instructions which said, after mounting on the wall, pull the bar down. Which I tried to do. But could not. So nothing in the instructions indicated there was a release switch or other kind of release action. It just says pull it down. Which I tried. But it didn't budge. So maybe I got a bad unit. Or maybe there was a super secret release button not mentioned in the instructions nor easily found via ordinary investigation (I looked all over, pushed on anything that looked like it might be a release button). Your mileage may vary. It did come with adequate wall hanging hardware.
