Illuminating insight into post-war industrial Japan
A fascinating description of Morita's early life, followed by the establishment and growth of Sony, from its humble origins in ruined post-War Tokyo to its international leadership in consumer electronics. The book is helpfully peppered with Morita's (and Sony's) management philosophy. However, the second half of the book is much less focused than the first, consisting largely of his economic and legal insights, based upon decades of global trading and political wrangling. He is particularly opinionated on the contemporary (mid-1980s) state of Japan-US economic relations. In many respects this book is dated, but it documents an important story.

Truly Amazing!
I've always been fascinated about Sony and how the business worked. This book by akio morita shows the comparison between his way of business as well as the obstacles he encountered along the way creating the company we know today as Sony!

The Japanese Way to Success
This book gives an elaborate and original account of the chronicles of Sony. As well as containing a fascinating insight into business and management issues, this book also provides a glimpse of the Japanese way of life. Since the book is written by an orthodox Japanese who is also immersed in Western society, the author is able to successfully portray complex perspectives and realities of Japanese life, culture and society in a way that is accessible to English speakers - all in the context of business, which adds a touch of buzz for the lay reader. Occassionally the author's words seem to be self-contradictory and a reader may think the book is biased towards Japan, especially when comparing Japanese and American styles. However, its fascinating content makes it an enjoyable read for the general public, if not a requirement for anybody who wants to succeed in business.

Good insight to Sony and thier values
I really liked the style of this book, its pragmatic and inspiring at the same time. It provides the reader with a good insight into the early wavering fortunes of Sony. An interesting biography which is not self serving or self centred.

A Brilliant Book
This book is excellent - the best book I've read for a long time. Japanese business culture, entrepreneurial challenges, a Japanese perspective on World War 2, insights into the lives of the rich and famous - what is there not to like?

Painfull to read
If I wasn't such a finisher I would have stopped reading this book after chapter 1. The writing style and structure reads like a 1930's Japanese propaganda Book. Which is not in line any more with the current situation Japan is on. Comments on Nuclear power in Japan and how Japan will survive earthquakes and other natural disasters show how this once great nation over estimated it's power and ability to survive.
