Easy setup, loud alarm and discrete
Needing a smoke detector for the garage and wanting a smart alternative to a standard battery alarm i chose the Meross unit on ease of install, battery life and discreet looks. That it was Matter was a big advantage. I've had the unit for about a month now. The kit arrived well packaged with the Alarm, Matter hub MSH450 with UK wall plug and connecting cable. The alarm comes with 4x AA batteries already installed and a release tag which is removed before installation. Claimed battery life is 3 years. The Alarm is supplied with a backplate and adhesive pad and screws, I used the pad - recommend to not fit the alarm to the backplate immediately but allow overnight for the adhesive pad to do it's thing to avoid it falling off the celing after a month. Setting up the Matter hub was easy; flashing red/green LED on power-on, open the Meross App on my phone, hit the '+' icon to add the new device, scan the Matter 2D code on the hub and click through a few OK screens - all done in 2 mins. I could also have let my Samsung's SmartLife app do the process for me but chose not to. Testing the alarm from within the Meross App yielded an alarm from the detector plenty loud enough for my double garage. But the real alarm comes from the hub and it's piercing enough to have no concerns that it would wake the houshold and set the dog off in the middle of the night. Probably my immediate neighbours too. You can set up a weekly timed alarm check. The Matter hub can be used with other Meross devices like a thermometer/humidity sensor and water alrm, so useful for any future expansion. There's a short Ethernet cable included if you wanted a wired connection between hub and the house wifi router. All in all, I'm pleased with the alrm and have confidence it will do its job when needed. It looks great on the ceiling; low profile and discrete, and I'm tempted to buy another when the time comes to renew to house alarms. If I have a criticism it's that the alarm is fiddly to attach to the backplate whern it's above your head as it only fits in one orientation. Currently the alarm can be had for around thirty GBP which seems excellent value for the function it offers.

Best product I bought of Amazon for a long time
Quick and easy, once the hub is connected, everything else just quickly goes online. Also fantastic value for money, imagine the hub itself is a good £19.99 and the alarm itself is £30.00. Looks decent quality and connected to my Apple home instantly without much fuss. And above all it’s a smoke alarm that detects CO and partly work as a burglar alarm. Woohoo!

Smart smoke alarm
I bought this as an extra smoke alarm. Setup was simple (I actually already had a Meross hub setup) just pressed a button and it appeared in the app. Google home recognised it automatically after adding, just had to choose a room. The unit feels reasonable quality the plastic wasn’t too thin though the way you twist to attache to the back plate was a little fiddly. The alarm is loud so that’s good. It came with an adhesive pad which I used to secure to the ceiling.

Incredibly Simple Setup
*EDITED AS PURCHASED AN ADDITIONAL UNIT* Purchased an additional unit for my detached office, worked flawlessly and have added a video about how easy it is to add to the hub. Very nicely package and a smart addition. The adhesive is proper 3M VHB (very high bond) so no chance of the device coming off once secured and temperature resistant as it’s the same stuff that’s used to adhere car trims. Excellent sound of mind. Took less than 60 seconds to pair, I’ve attached a video showing how easy. Everything is pictured so just select the item that looks like yours. I’m one for not reading instructions, but this was probably one of the easiest devices and hubs I’ve ever set up. I already use the Meross app for several smart plugs, but I wanted to add a Matter bridge and set up a fire alarm for my detached garage, which houses several appliances. I placed the bridge in my garage alongside my Hue Bridge, as I already have a Wi-Fi extender out there for the garden office. It was truly plug-and-play. My only minor criticisms are that the included USB-C cable is quite short (though easily replaceable), and unlike the Hue Bridge, there’s no wall-mount hole, which is a shame. Setup in the app was effortless — I opened it, added a new device, selected the hub, and matched it to the picture that looked like mine. Everything connected instantly, and it even registered itself in HomeKit automatically for future use. The fire alarm was just as straightforward. It came with batteries pre-installed, only requiring the removal of a small plastic tab. I initially made the mistake of attaching the mounting plate first, which was a bit fiddly to remove, but not a big issue. After three quick presses on the alarm, it connected immediately in the app. I mounted it to the ceiling using my own screws (habit!) and twisted it into place. The only small detail to note is that even though I aligned the mounting arrow straight, the light ended up slightly off-centre once clicked in — not a big deal for a garage, but worth checking if alignment matters to you. The alarm volume is strong without being painfully loud like mains-powered ones. For me, the app notification feature is especially useful. I’ll definitely be buying another for the garden office further down the garden.

Matter-enabled Smoke Alarm
I already have a couple of smoke alarms in my house; best practice if not required for insurance. This is the first time I've purchased a "smart" smoke alarm with my other non-smart ones being wired into the mains. Setup was easy. I used the Meross app (I have other devices), clicked add item, followed the prompts and then scanned the QR code on the side of the matter hub. Very easy. Adding the alarm itself was easy too by the same method, but note you have to add the hub first as part of the process of installing the alarm was to pair it with the hub. This bit was the only step I stumbled on as the hub dropped out of pairing mode before I had the alarm ready, but the instructions covered this and it all worked fine. So what is the advantage of having the alarm connected to the internet? It's something I questioned before getting the device. I guess it's useful in that the app will send a notification out to your phone to alert you to smoke if you're not at home so you can act on the information. Unless it's the router that caught fire and thus the connected device is no longer connected........ The app shows the battery level (very useful so you can change the batteries (4x AA) before it gets to the annoying bleeping stage which only ever starts up at 2am!) as well as being able to test the alarm which is useful if you've installed it out of reach. It will be interesting to see how long the batteries last; my previous battery-powered ones all used PP9 batteries rather than AA; the latter being more convenient to me as I've usually got them about, but only tend to get PP9 batteries when needed.

Meross Smart Smoke Alarm MA151 with MSH450 Hub – Great Value Smart Smoke Alarm
I bought the Meross MA151 Smart Smoke Alarm with the MSH450 Hub to add smart smoke detection to my home, mainly for Apple Home / HomeKit use. After setup and several weeks of use, it’s proven to be a reliable, well-priced option with solid smart features and Matter support. It offers dependable smoke detection, instant phone alerts, and integration with Apple Home, Alexa, and Google Home via Matter — all at a much lower price than many big-name alternatives. ✅ Pros • Matter compatible (via included MSH450 hub) • Works with Apple Home / HomeKit, Alexa & Google Home • Dual optical smoke sensors help reduce false alarms • Instant app notifications with multi-user support • Very loud alarm (hub includes a 110 dB siren) • Easy installation and clear setup process ❌ Cons • Requires the included hub (adds an extra step) • Some advanced smart automations take a little time to configure 🔧 First Impressions Everything arrived well packaged and included everything needed: • Smoke alarm unit • MSH450 hub • Mounting screws and adhesive pads • Quick start guide The smoke alarm feels solid and well made, and the simple white design blends nicely into the ceiling without standing out. 🛠️ Setup Experience (Step-by-Step Summary) Setup was easier than expected and took around 10–15 minutes in total. 1. Power the alarm by removing the battery isolation tab 3. Plug in the MSH450 hub and add it via the Meross app 4. Add the smoke alarm in the app 5. Test alerts and notifications If pairing doesn’t work first time, a quick reset and retry should solved it. 📱 App Experience The Meross app is simple and easy to use. It shows: • Battery level and device status • Instant alerts for smoke or tampering • Alert history • Room and device organisation Notifications arrive instantly, which is exactly what you want from a safety device. 🌐 Smart Home & Matter Integration Using Matter via the hub, the alarm integrates well with a number of platforms including: • Apple Home / HomeKit • Amazon Alexa • Google Home Once added, it can be included in automations and works reliably within a Matter-based smart home. 🎯 Performance After Use After several weeks of everyday use: • Smoke detection has been fast and responsive • No false alarms from normal cooking or steam • Phone alerts arrive immediately • The hub siren is extremely loud and easy to hear throughout the house ⚠️ Things to Know Before Buying • A hub is required – the smoke alarm will not work on its own (the hub is included) • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only – 5 GHz networks aren’t supported • Not a carbon monoxide detector – this is smoke-only • Matter setup is optional – works fine just using the Meross app if preferred • Battery-powered alarm – batteries will eventually need replacing but quoted as 10 year life span 🧠 Final Verdict Verified Purchase – Would buy again. The Meross MA151 with the MSH450 Hub offers excellent value for money. Setup was straightforward, notifications are instant, and Matter support makes it a good future-proof option — especially if you use Apple Home / HomeKit. If you’re an iPhone or Apple Home user looking for a smart smoke alarm that’s easy to install, reliable, and reasonably priced, the Meross MA151 with MSH450 Hub is an excellent choice. I would recommend it to anyone building an Apple Home setup. I would seriously consider adding more of the individual smoke alarms to this set, the alarms at the time of posting are £29.99 each (https://www.amazon.co.uk/MA151-Required-Lifespan-Assistant-Dual-Photoelectric/dp/B0FNMSV41Z/) If you want smart smoke detection without paying premium-brand prices, this is an easy recommendation.

Reliable, easy to set up, and great value
I bought the Meross MA151 to replace an older smoke alarm and I’m really impressed. Setup took just a few minutes and it connected to the app with no issues. The alarm is loud, the build quality feels solid, and the notifications on the phone work perfectly. For the price, it’s honestly one of the best smart smoke alarms out there.

Compact and value for the money
Easy to setup. I also tested it in my bullet grill with a lot of smoke, it beeps lodly. This is the cheapest option if you have fireplace to detect carbon and fire at the same time. Too bad it does not connect to Meross app. It has sealed battery which should match the life of the sensor, 10 years. Quality of Meross devices is one of the top. It it very compact, perfect for low ceilings.
