A natural product that works
I began using JFM but have sensitive skin. I had slight burn after a few uses so decided to stop immediately. I looked at a few natural items and saw this brand available on Amazon. I initially used the dark brown. It didn’t work well. I was getting orange colour on my grey hairs and only lasting a couple of days. I was about to give up but thought I would try the black dye. This has worked great with no irritation. With this product, it took some practice and trial and error to get things the way I wanted. I have a relatively short beard (number 6 on my Remington beard trimmer) and I colour it every 5 days. It’s not as straight forward as chemical dyes but I have found it works just as well. The first thing to mention is that this does take longer. If you need the base then it can take up to an hour whereas the JFM only stayed on for 2 minutes. I find it best to use this around doing something else as opposed to just sitting around waiting to wash it off. The second thing to mention is that this does not work like chemical dyes. This will only colour what it is physically in contact with. Therefore, you have to make sure you cannot see any hair sticking out of the application. It has to be thick with the beard fully underneath the mixture. I find that my beard darkens immediately but continues to get darker over the next 8 hours. I don’t personally get any of the green or purple mentioned. This colour is a dark black and darker than my natural beard. There is no guarantee that the dye will work. You may need to use the base. The dye has not worked for me without the base. I have done some trial and error and I can mix my base in with the black and use it in one application. This is not how they recommend it is used but works for me and I half the time. It works better if you use the base and colour separately but I’m happy with the result and I prefer to have a few grey hairs here and there as it looks more natural. If I use separately then I can get 100% black beard. One of the great things about this compared to chemical products is that this does not colour your skin. I have no irritation at all. I previously had dry skin under my beard but using this product has meant I no longer have dry skin. It’s also worth noting that this product requires a lot less time on the beard than similar natural products which say they need to be on for anywhere between 4 hours to overnight. All in all very happy with this and I like that it is natural.

Grizzly beard dye black = Orange. blue. purple and Green
Just when I found the ideal break through to an allergic reaction and a fantastic beard dye how wrong was I. I used this product for 2 months solid in the denial that it was working. I bought the black beard dye and used every method of application out there after first use / 1st day black 2nd day Orange / Next day purple. The purple was the final out come. it seems to change colour as the day goes on. Its virtually boarder line surprise surprise you don't know what your going to get. Especially when your out and about and its Changning colour by the hours. The final straw came when I found my facial skin was becoming very dry and itchy and when applying the base it felt my skin started to burn. don't get me wrong this product is no where near the harsh reaction of just for men. Again this may work for some but my personal experience a definite no. I will have to go grey gracefully with a little touch up from a little eye liner. cheap and cheerful. becoming very dry and itchy. Which reminded me of the just for men allergic reaction.

Excellent product. Works as advertised.
This product is excellent, and it gives me results that go beyond my wildest expectations. Before Grizzly Mountain, I had tried chemical dyes but had to stop due to the itching they caused after some time. Grizzly Mountain causes me no irritation whatsoever. I use the dark brown, mixed in with some natural brown, and the effect is awesome, very natural. I dye my beard once a week (it’s very short). I start with the base (I let it sit for 30 minutes and then rinse under the shower) and follow on with the dye (35-40 minutes, then ditto). It’s sort of a weekly evening ritual, kind of meditative even. Given the results, the time investment is totally worth it, a no brainer for me. Here’s how I apply it. I mix the dye with water close to boiling point (I make sure that the paste doesn't become watery; it should have the consistency of thick ketchup); apply the paste with the brush provided in the packet; and work the paste into the beard evenly with my fingers. I then cover the beard with cling wrap, so the paste won't dry out and will easily come off under the shower. The longer one lets the dye sit (not the base), the darker the beard gets. I haven’t experienced the “green beard” effect some have written about and which is mentioned in the instructions on the box. The beard darkens somewhat overnight, so you’ll see the full effect when you look into the mirror in the morning. Some reviewers have complained about the smell, which is somewhat grassy. Personally, I have no problem with it – it doesn’t bother either me or my girlfriend one bit. Now that I'm used to the dye, I hardly even notice the smell.

The only natural product my skin tolerates
I have tried many different products, but this is the only one that doesn’t give me a rash. It’s not perfect but I keep coming back to it as the only natural one that my skin can tolerate. My beard is short and well trimmed, I am a young looking 57 y/o musician and I still enjoy looking young-ish, as I feel there is ageism in the industry. I guess I will have to stop using it when I reach 60, I am just not ready yet! Here are my recommendations: - trim and shape your beard well, in advance - apply the organic base first; I leave it for 30 mins. Be very careful that the mix is not too runny or too dry, you need to add very little water each time and mix it well until you’re happy with its consistency - make sure you only cover the hair line/area, don’t go over on adjacent skin. This takes practice but it gets better the more you do it - wash it off with cold water; i found it cools your skin, hot water seems to dissolve what you have just applied - dry it off with a dark towel (it will stain a bit Although it does wash off) and apply the actual dye; I am light mediterranean, and I use dark brown or black. Leave this application for 30-40 minutes - wash off well, again with cold water. As it dries a lot you will need to be patient and splash lots of water on your beard until it’s all clean - I always dye my beard two days before any important event; this is because the following day it may look a bit green for a few hours, in my case you need around 20 hours for the colour to lose the “green looks” It is true that it turns purple after a few days! That’s when I trim my beard again, at which point it will look salt and pepper, which I don’t mind, for a couple of days. I apply the dye once a week. As I said, not perfect but definitely the only product that my skin tolerates. It’s true that the skin around it goes a bit red for an hour or two, but it doesn’t cause me any itch at all.

Very effective!
Excellent! I’ve tried similar before after Just for M! JFM was horrible and burned me every time I used it. Also I suspect JFM and similar chemical dyes are carcinogenic so it was imperative I found a working solution. I had a few options 1) Go grey gracefully 2) Shave the beard off (I’m bald so I wouldn’t look great with that option!) the little bit of looks I did manage to rescue by growing a small neat beard many years ago would be hard to give up. So I consulted Grok and it suggested this Grizzly Mountain Dye. It made promises so I ordered and I used it today (Friday) Absolutely brilliant and I can tell already it works better than the other henna dye I tried. I didn’t bother with the base and to be honest I haven’t a clue what that’s for but it was just another step that I couldn’t be bothered with. I mixed in a small glass bowl a good heap of the powder and put in freshly boiled kettle water after letting it cool slightly first. Have that a good mix until about toothpaste consistency. I painted it on with the included brush and went and watch the snooker on TV for half an hour. This is where the magic happened. Grok told me to rinse with water only no soap no shampoo! A step I didn’t adhere to before. It wasn’t strong enough to remove all so then I got a hot face cloth and light mild soap and washed my face as you do. Then the greeny tinge got less and less. I realised previously I may have been harshly washing out the dye mixture with strong shampoos so it was great to see the green tinge left on the beard. It was pretty green and would be noticeable but I have noticed a few hours later it is starting to oxidise into a brilliant dark brown. I have to say guys, no cancer causing chemicals and a nice dark brown beard. It should oxidise further and the green tinge should fade but all in all I am absolutely delighted and I’m switching to this completely as a once a week ritual. That’s my tips as a born again henna / indigo user! I’ve picked up a few pointers so just remember don’t harshly washing with shampoo after the 30 mins, gently remove with warm water leaning over the bath and then finish with a hot face cloth and mild soap if required. Better to do it in the evening, it’s not an instant thing where you can do this and go straight to work as you will have the green tinge. I give 5 stars for this and I can now have a nice colour rather than grey without any health concerns. That really puts my mind at rest so thank you!

might work for you, didn't for me, found better solution
Like many, I had to switch to natural dyes due to dermatitis caused by PPD and other harsh chemicals in synthetic dyes. The good news is that I don't get a bad reaction with natural dyes like this one. The bad news is that the results aren't as good. Try as I might, I couldn't get rid of the slight purplish tinge to my beard. Experimented with their Organic Base product and with different timings but to no avail. The problem is that both these products contain BOTH henna AND indigo and in fixed ratios. To solve the purple tinge problem, you need to increase the henna to indigo exposure ratio. The solution therefore is to apply only henna and only indigo separately. Unfortunately this takes a lot longer but the result is a natural looking black (I have a coarse beard with 80% of my hairs white). For me, 2h of henna followed by 45min of indigo does the trick. The product I use is It's Pure Organics - they do a combo bag of both dyes separate.

I've been using this product now for weeks and I recommend it - just be patient
This product is a game-changer for any guys whose beards are going grey or white and who cannot tolerate the harsh chemicals in conventional beard dyes. It takes a bit of getting used to and experimentation, but it pays off. In the end, to achieve my perfect beard colour match, I bought dark brown and light brown and I combine the mixture in equal parts. It's true that immediately after colouring, your beard can look slightly greenish. But this fades. Also the beard colour gets more noticeable about 24 hours later. It also builds up over time and looks very natural. As the manufacturer recommends, it's best to make a paste that's pretty thick. I use two teaspoons of powder to four teaspoons of warm water and mix until it's a thick paste and not runny. This way, you'll avoid splashing the mixture when you apply it. I also use sideways motions initially to get the colour deep into the beard follicles before laying on a thick coat over the whole beard. This product does smell a bit, but I don't mind that. It's earthy and not unpleasant. It has caused zero irritation and I've been using it now for quite a while. I had to stop dying my beard with conventional beard dyes (we know who they are) because of the inflammation and itching became unbearable. Then because my beard was white, I shaved it off. Today, I have my beard back again, and it looks very natural. A good tip, if it's getting to the end of the week and you're grey hairs are showing through - get some hair shader powder, a makeup brush, and just top up the grey. It won't cover them completely but it will make them a lot less noticeable until you colour your beard again.

The colour is great but I developed skin sensitivity which is a shame
[***update*** it's 2 weeks later and I now have contact dermatitis as a result of my reaction to this product all the way through my beard. Something that can take forever to get rid of. All I can say is if you feel an itch "STOP USING THE DYE IMMEDIATELY". My skin now feels raw and itchy all the time.] So, I've used the mid-brown version and have been very impressed by the natural-like coverage. I felt I needed to go slightly darker and I have to say this new colour looks perfect on my beard ... BUT ..... (and it's a huge big but) after 4 uses my skin is now seriously itchy and is becoming noticeably red and irritated. 'Fraid I have to stop using it. I'm thinking there's something specific in the dark brown version that my skin is irritated by or possibly the packet I have is from a bad batch. It's a real shame as I love the beard colour and coverage but my skin hates it so will have to stop using it.
