If you've already taken an expensive seminar on starting a staging business, don't read this. It will break your heart. Barbara Jennings, bestselling author of 19 books and national trainer since 2002, offers a comprehensively detailed guide on how to earn excellent income in a home-based staging business, now a textbook used by multiple universities and technical schools. Director of the Academy of Staging and Redesign (Decorate-Redecorate.Com), the author takes readers through the maze of starting and growing a lucrative business, covering virtually everything needed to succeed, avoid pitfalls and grow quickly. This large format, exhaustive manual teaches essential tactics and strategies so readers can succeed who put forth the effort. Holding nothing back, it is loaded with numerous check lists, a wide variety of forms, specific how-to details and much more, and has helped launch over 35,000 staging careers globally. IN THIS EDITION: Access to a 50-page downloadable PDF with full color before and after pictures of 36 staged rooms (plus notations) AND colorful staging tricks used by professionals to sizzle homes (note: images in book are black and white). Additional resources are mentioned as well. Written in a personable, conversational style, these insights are a must-read for those serious about a staging business (or just exploring). No degree or prior experience needed. Certification courses in home staging and interior re-design are also available from the author’s website. The manual includes practical discussions and tips, such as: the top mistakes and common problems sellers make what stagers must do and understand how to identify a home's assets and faults how to interview and bond with realtors how to interview and bond with sellers the five ingredients for a successful staging service the professional image, attitudes and ethics needed how to do consultations, submit bids, make presentations how to set up the business, licenses to get and so forth how to legally protect the entity, as well as one's family how to get clients and referrals from multiple sources how to profit from consultations and offer full staging services how to promote, maintain and sustain the business indefinitely how to use social media to build and grow the business how to price services with confidence and ease how to protect, organize and prioritize 107 questions to ask agents and homeowners to help quote services detailed pricing guidelines for furnished and empty houses extensive list of staging tools needed for actual projects extensive cleaning and painting guidelines a 29-page detailed checklist to make consultations quick and easy list of over 300 possible business names detailed information on custom visual aids, promotional and management tools, plus dual certification courses 15 handy reproducible forms ready to go multiple checklists and handout examples for value added services Review: Very Good Resource - This book provides exactly what the title implies and is for those interested in beginning a home staging consultant practice. This is not the ideal book for those seeking to stage a home themselves, but for anyone looking for a practical guide to starting a business with an emphasis on staging it is a good addition to a reference library. It covers a great deal of information and due to this fact does not cover any one area in great depth. In some cases it may provide all of the information you will want to know, and in other areas will make you aware of the fact that you need further study. I would suggest this as a "springboard" and the first book to read on the subject as it provides a good foundation. Additional study of staging, home enhancement, interior design elements, and starting a small business will be necessary. Although this book contains a great deal of helpful tips and ideas involving home enhancement it is by no means a complete course on the staging process. In fact beginning with this book may have been the author's intention as she does have many other books, as well as an online training course, available. My advice is to gleen from as many professionals as possible, and if a small business is in your future do not forget your local accountant, attorney, insurance agent, and perhaps a mentor. Including some forms in the back was a nice gesture on the author's part but honestly including legal forms had to be a bit restricting. For your business you need your own forms, generated with your attorney (In other words I would not purchase this book simply for the forms, many of which are lacking or are simply suggestions for creating your own.) There are many books on the subject of staging alone and not business (although for a novice...for a beginner who wants all of the basics in one book) and the most complete, believe it or not, is "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Staging Your Home to Sell." (This is also a good book for those seeking to attempt part of the staging process themselves. I am sorry but you will not get the same quality of finished product as you would if using a professional, but give it a shot. Whatever you do in the process certainly won't hurt!) "Home Staging for Profit" contains some great information resulting from years of success in the industry, and as I said before, is a great place to start. I have been staging for over 20 years (long before it had a known name) and in an effort to constantly stay abreast of what's new in the industry I am constantly reading and adding to my library. I will be leaving reviews for many other books involving staging, interior design, color theory, real estate, and redesign, which may be helpful to some. Just check my other reviews and I hope I will have them all written before you get there! Review: Great intro so far... - I recently bought 2 books on Staging, since I'm currently wondering wether to pursue it as a new career. Right off the bat, this book is very inspiring in it's voice and the writer's accomplishments. I'm barely into it, but it's already gotten me back to feeling excited about the possibilities. As opposed to the other staging book i'm about to review, and ended up returning. The layout is like reading a term paper, but it's kind of nice reading on such a big format for a change. No color pictures to speak of, but if you're buying this, you're not looking for color ideas. Just tell me what the biz is all about, and what i could expect from giving it a go, is all i'm looking for. I'm really enjoying the way that it's written as if the author is talking to you. It's much more entertaining, and it makes me feel like she's there for any questions, which she says she is! So based on the 30+ pages or so i've read, this book is a definite for those looking for some insight into this growing business.

Very helpful book!
This is a very helpful book whether you want to stage homes for profit or stage your own home for sale. These tips make a home much more appealing to buyers and the information is presented clearly with photos. The only thing that would make it better is if the photos were in color. I would recommend this book, it has a lot of good tips...and it is a good little needed business to get into as well.

A wealth of information!
I purchased this book because I desired to start my own home staging and redesign business. I researched online about Barbara Jennings, went to her website, read the testimonials, and checked out her home study courses. For me, as a complete novice with a passion for design, this book was an incredible journey into what it would truly take to get my business started. Barbara shares so much of her experience, insight and wisdom along with practical knowledge and application. I was impressed with her candor. Her willingness to share the good, the bad, and the ugly so to speak. No fluff. I found her writing to be personable and refreshing. I cannot imagine the expense I would have had to lay out if this was a traditional college course of training. This book in a textbook format would have cost me more than $100 I know. For me a $30 investment in my new career choice was a no-brainer. This fully comprehensive book will be a resource I turn to over and over again. Highly recommend it.

Good content, poor layout
While I was very hopeful and excited to read this book, I've been slightly disappointed. The content covered is good and the author hits on very pertinent aspects of the business but the book is laid out so poorly; she goes from one point right to another unrelated point. From what I've read about the author, she is highly experienced in the staging industry and knows what she's talking about but this book is just so hard to follow. In her defense, she did state several times throughout the book that she is "not a professional writer."

The ultimate guide to home staging.
"Home Staging for Profit" is a wonderful resource for those interested in a career in home staging. Compared to the two other books I've read on the subject, this one is by far the best. There is virually nothing that a home stager need to know that is not covered in this book. I have been hestitant to start my own business, but Ms. Jennings has provided all the information I need to know, from selecting a business name to supplying sample forms. This book has given me the confidence and the tools I need to launch a successful career in home staging. In addition to the information on setting up a business, it includes: Effective communication skills, professional ethics, questions to ask the seller, and tips on cleaning, decluttering, restoring and enhancing all rooms of the house. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in home staging for themselves or as a career.

A must for home stagers
I'm switching careers and have decided to try the home staging business. After reading about the author and her experience, I ordered this book and I'm glad I did. It provides the exact information I was seeking. It's informative and written in an extremely easy style to follow. Although some of the information is obvious/basic - (decluttering) - it is important enough it probably should be emphasized. The author even provides a list of potential names for your new business. She also includes a question and answer section in which she provides good guidelines for potential situations. I purchased another book at the same time I ordered this one and there is no comparison. I would definitely recommend this book.

All the links in the book are broken
To get the most out of the book you need to visit url links and all including the Facebook page seem to be broken links. It makes the whole book unusable as you need to be able to view the high res colour pictures. It even states so in the book but then gives broken links.
