I first ordered a cheaper dowel jig from another vendor on Amazon, and did not like that one. The jig was so sharp on the edges that handling it was very unpleasant, I felt I would cut/scrape myself constantly. I returned that jig and got this one due to the many good reviews and it was so worth it. This jig is very nicely smooth on the edges, which made handling so much more pleasant. This was much larger and heavier than the previous jig I got; that seemed to be the result of substantial quality material and larger capacity- it worked very well. I like the wide capacity jaws. I actually liked that it was wider and larger as it seemed to be more stable and easier to position correctly on the work piece. I also really liked that it came with instructions on how to calibrate the jig if necessary. The jig came correctly calibrated. I am happy to pay more for a quality product that will be useful for many years, not just become junk when I need to tackle a bigger/more important project in the future. What especially made it worthy of a review was their great customer service. I had problems with the 3/8 drill guides, and at first, was confused that I could not contact them directly via their webpage (it would redirect me back to amazon). So I messaged the company through Amazon and James, the agent who responded, was so great. He was polite and prompt, and immediately responded that he would send me out another set of drill guides. The set he sent me arrived quickly, but they accidentally gave me 3 of the 1/4 inch guides and only 1 of the 3/8 inch guides. I contact James again, and he immediately apologizes and sends me out another set! I offered to pay for an additional set and he said they don't have it set up to buy replacement drill guides but that they would be happy for me to contact them if I have any issues in the future. Thank you James! And having contacted them more than once, I believe him. I am really glad to have a quality product backed by a quality company who are responsive and helpful. So this turned out to be a great investment in my tool box! I also liked that it came in different colors so I can find it quick amongst my other tools. I've just used this jig to add extensions to the back of the Ikea billy bookcase (to make it deeper). This jig was great, and my project finished wonderfully- no screw holes or fasteners visible, all with the dowels and woodglue! It's turned out beautifully and we're so pleased. This jig made it possible and efficient, and I look forward to using it for other projects in the future.

This Dowel jig exceeded my expectations. I’ve had others in a similar price range and no longer use them, because accuracy saves money and is the most important aspect, especially when using expensive wood species, as there’s no room for errors. It is clearly built to a high precision, no sloppiness in its moving parts whatsoever, very accurate in its alignment, hefty in its weight, and well packaged. The company stated that they are considering selling replacement inserts in the near future, as there’s no doubt that the screw in inserts will wear down with repeated drill bit usage. The jig itself should last a lifetime of use, as long as you take care of it and treat it as the precision instrument it clearly is. Furthermore, Amazon sent me a returned used item, and the inserts were worn down. I contacted the manufacturer and spoke with Ryan who quickly rectified the issue. Bravo!! Another reason to purchase this jig.

Great piece of equipment

I purchased this jig to install some floating shelves that needed a perfectly centered metal dowel. One end of the dowel or post screws into a wall stud while the other slides into a drilled hole in the shelf. I used it for 5 shelves and for the first four it worked perfectly. However for the fifth, it became off centered and my drill bit kept going off center and drilling through my shelf on either the top or bottom. The instructions told you what you might need to do if this happens to ‘readjust’ the jig, but so far I haven’t been able to successfully make the proper adjustments. I’ll keep trying to adjust but kind of funky adjustment process. If I can figure out how to properly adjust this thing, I’ll come back and give it 5 stars.

Before doing anything else with this jig, perform the adjustment procedure mentioned in the October 9, 2024 review by Cainiac. Basically, I did that by tightening, tweaking the centering adjustment, loosening, and re-tightening the jig on a 3/4" thick piece of lumber like I was planning to drill the 3/4" side. I did that until I was sure that the jig was appropriately centered before locking everything down as Cainiac suggested. I have been edge-drilling plywood that is about 0.473" thick for dowels and cam lock screw holes. So, the holes have to be centered or the pieces will be ruined. The accuracy has been consistently great, which allows me to quickly drill all the holes with a minimum of difficulty. The jig is very functional and a great value. The only thing that I would like to see in addition to what it already does would be inserts to accommodate more drill bit sizes to allow for uses beyond just doweling.

Sturdy and well made. I had zero issues with alignment which is a complaint in one review. I would have liked more dowel pieces in various sizes. NBD. This alignment jig did the job for me and I would recommend it.

Fantastic! All metal parts and very accurate. I used this jig to make Plantation shutters, which required great accuracy of doweling. Using this jig, I produced a very professional result, quickly and easily. I wish I had found this years ago. Very good value for money and very good quality and very easy to line up drill holes accurately so both sides of wood match perfectly. Can be used on projects, big and small, and varying thicknesses of wood. I highly recommend this jig.

Works great.

Only suitable for end grain dowels. Not useful for face dowels. Returned it for a refund and purchased another type that also allows face dowels.
