Spear & Jackson 4930FZ Razorsharp Telescopic Tree Pruner

Really impressed by this, especially for the price I haven't had to use the saw that comes with it yet because the pruner is very sharp and has cut through thick branches. Took me few minutes to get used working it but did a great job. Highly recommend. Like the adjustability , can feel a bit heavy after a while but reaches all the tricky areas.

Really good quality and as the name suggests it’s really sharp. Bought this on a deal so was a very good price. It’s a decent length and if it were longer it might become too heavy too manoeuvre. It did, after a while of using become a little heavy but it needs to be this weight for strength. I gave it five stars because I was pleased with the way it performed and it’s a solid piece of kit. Will last a lifetime. One thing, the saw blade comes unattached but the wing nut and bolt to secure it are attached to the head, loosely screwed together. I wasn’t aware of this and began using the pruner during which the wing nut and bolt unscrewed and fell to the ground. I spotted this and was able to retrieve them, however they could have easily been lost.

Very good! Has a sharp cutting pruner and does work smoothly, managed to cut some high over hanging cherry tree branches with ease and no use of climbing a ladder HOWEVER it is a little on the heavier side at the top but it probably needs to be. (I didn’t see the titanium version of this otherwise I think I’d have bought those ones instead) Everything is loose when opening so make sure you tighten all the screws up BEFORE using. Haven’t used the saw blade as yet but again that looks sharp and can be added on with the wing nuts already attached to the pruners, again make sure they’re tightened up before using. Was packed well and didn’t take too long working out how to use the cord cutting thingy - never used this type before! Overall pleased with these apart from the weightiness. Arrived quickly.

Great piece of kit for a decent price, really pleased. They're not kidding about the 'razorsharp' thing - the blade sliced through neighbours' well-established overhanging tree branches like hot knife through butter. Haven't used the saw yet but it looks suitably brutal (smiling devil emoji). Safety tip: (especially) when you've fully extended the pole and cut through stuff that's way up high, focus+++ on controlling the 'business end' not on what you've cut off . What you've cut off will do what it's going to do (so lol think about that before you cut). 'Business end' is heavier and sharper - important not to let it swing/fall about and smack into things or (obvs, especially) people. Just sayin'.

This is the best gardening tool I've ever used. As it's name suggest this is truly razor sharp. It cuts thorough branches like slicing a butter using a knife :) Arrived with a small damage, but Amazon gladly agreed for a partial refund. For the positive side, I can certainly give five star because it's sharp cutting blades (which is the most important part.. obviously). I've used both pruner and the saw tool and both are really really sharp, so I don't need to put much effort to cut thorugh branches. Also, the build quality is very good and seems like I can use it for years to come. Saw blade is very sharp and I've cut though 2-3 inch branches in a snap. If I come come to negative side of the tool, it's little bit heaviour but I think that's because of the quality of the materials used. The provided string is not too good but you can replace it with any other suitable one in no time. Also as some other reviewers said, two fly nuts get loosen when you use it, so it has to tighten up reguraly. All in all, for the price I think this is a very good deal. So grab it... you won't get disappointed :) Update 2016: I'm still using this product and used it for usual gardening every summer. Now the string is worn out, but still usable. When it break I will replace it with another string. The blade still good and I never sharpened it. Still cuts through about 1.5 inch branches with bit of effort. I've used saw blade heavily last summer to cut down 10-15 branches and it now has a small bent on it. Still usable though :) All in all, this is worth every penny and when this breaks I'll buy another Spear & Jackson product. Well Done Spear & Jackson! Fantastic tree lopper - I wondered how easy the string pulley would be to operate but it sliced through my overgrown bay laurel tree branches like butter. The saw is not so sturdy, rather wobbly, but useful as an optional add on rather than main purpose if this product.

A long-reach lopper, such as this one from the well-known manufacturer Spear and Jackson, is the best way of pruning at medium heights without the risk of ending up in A&E. I have used it for a while now and overall I am very pleased with it. Here is my summary of its good, and not so good, features. The lopper blade if very effective at removing anything that can fit between it and the anvil, although of course you have to pull the rope hard to effect the cut. The handle for doing this is effective and has a neat device to quickly give the optimal length of cord. How long it will remain so sharp only time will tell. Unlike some reviewers I have had no problems with broken cords. The package mentions ‘stronger cord’ so I presume this is to meet the earlier criticisms that the cord/string was prone to break. Neither have I encountered problems with the various components failing in some way. Here you must be careful. After removing the tough plastic wrapping you may well find, as I did, that some of the nuts are very loose. Make sure that you tighten all of them and you should have no trouble. At least I haven’t. For larger branches you will have to use the saw blade. This is rather long and hence not always easy to weave between close branches. Its length also makes it a bit floppy when actually sawing, but with experience it does the job. The telescopic action is very easy to use and the extension pole holds firmly in place by the single large wing nut. The biggest negative is the weight. Ideally it would be made of aluminium, but, perhaps because of its very long extension, the makers have chosen steel. This certainly produces a rigid device, but also makes it difficult to hold up high for extended periods. A great improvement would be if it were to come with a harness, such as used by people carrying large flags or banners at parades, so that the weight was carried on the shoulders rather than the lower back, the source of so much pain. To try and avoid the latter, although I use the lopper quite often, it is only for very short periods.

I am very pleased with this item. Works amazingly well. Would most definitely recommend.

The shear easily cuts 1/2 to 3/4 inch branches. The saw is razor sharp and cut through thicker branches much faster than I thought it would. It is so sharp I made a cardboard sleeve to cover it for safe storage. The handle on the rope to use the shear is a great feature and it can be adjusted and locked in place as you change the pole length.

This thing is incredible. Sharp and long reach. I remove the saw when only pruning as it gets stuck between the branches and its quite easy to put back on. It won't cut dry branches well but fresh branches are cut without a glitch. This is my go to when cutting overgrown branches.

As a small, 69yo woman with quite a few trees, I was looking for a means of pruning my trees without needing a ladder. This pruner does the job perfectly for me. I haven't needed to use the pruning saw yet, but the cord-operated cutter is brilliant. It's very sharp and pruning is now something that I can do easily. It takes a bit of practice to avoid tangling the cord up in the branches, but once I got the hang of it, I was fine. I recommend it.
