Very highly recommended based upon using this series of books
As a non-medical person I found the the book informative, easy to understand and useful. It follows the same three section format as the other books in the Fixing You series, which is helpful if you are familiar with any of them. The first section covers the nature of pain in general and is common to all the series (although heavily updated in the recently published Fixing You Back Pain 2nd edition). It is essential reading as it provides a necessary foundation and link for all that follows. The second section covers the anatomy of the the shoulder and elbow and is well described and illustrated. this part of the book also show how pain, stiffness etc may occur in the area. It also gives a link to appropriate exercises listed in section three. This means you can go straight to your problem in section two and then directly to the exercise without reading the whole text - useful if pain strikes suddenly. The third section gives fully illustrated exercises to assist in overcoming pain referred to in section two. This section is excellent as the exercises are based on the author's experience of what works, and not simply copied from other texts. As you might have gathered, I have found great benefit in following the advice offered in this series of books, and very highly recommend them.

This book has helped enormously
My shoulders and upper back had been getting progressively stiffer over the last 2-3 years. I had always been very flexible so I found my restricted movements quite distressing. When the neck pain started and gave me occasional headaches I saw some physical therapists and was given some exercises to do. It just made things worse, especially the headaches. I had some massage therapy which helped for a bit but the stiffness and pain returned as soon as I stopped. Then a few weeks ago I read through this book and tried the exercises. They've certainly helped me. The stretches are very good and the strengthening exercises have made some difference too. I'm back to the level of flexibility I had before and my neck pain is so much better. And no headaches at all. I've still a way to go to strengthen my upper back but I now feel very motivated to do so.I like the way the book is written. The author explains anatomy in just the right detail and the diagrams helped me especially to get the right muscles engaging. I think that's where I went wrong in the past with exercises....always using the wrong muscles and making my pain worse. The website associated with the book is also very good and really helped me to perform the exercises properly. There are also some daily tips in the book and I found these to be very useful too. It's a great little book and its size is part of its virtue. The exercises, once you master them, don't take too long either.

Amazing book! Answer to my elbow pain and shoulder stiffness!
Honestly, you must buy this book if you have had tennis elbow, golfers elbow or stiff shoulder, epicondylitis, joint pain, RSI. I am so glad I got it.After 5 years of pain and disability which started with a simple tennis elbow 5 years ago - I found the link to my progressive shoulder and elbow pain and swollen hands is ALL CONNECTED! Provides great stretching diagrams and online video links so you can do the stretches and strength exercises. The assisted forearm stretch was my saviour and now I am healing. It was the forearm muscles that twisted my arms that were tight (pronation) causing golfers elbow and my right arm was bio mechanically out of synch but the exercise are working now. My osteopath healed my back and shoulder but this book was the only way for my tennis elbow.Recommended!!!! Five star.

I Recommend this Book
I have most of the books from Rick Olderman's "Fixing You" series...what does that say about me, other than I seem to be falling apart, lol! I always enjoy his approach and the videos that you can access through the book are a big bonus.

Exercises that seem to work
I haven't read all of this yet but have certainly found a few exercises that have helped my tennis elbow though it hasn't cleared up completely.

This Book Is The Real Deal
Rick Olderman's book series has improved my life considerably. As I go into my late 40s my body is letting me know how much I abused it in my 20s and 30s as a drummer and a career bike messenger. Movement in my left shoulder has become a painful experience with something as simple as holding a basketball over my head. I had seriously started thinking this was something I just had to accept living with for the rest of my life. And of course this created a downward spiral because I was now gaining weight and exercising less because of the pain. I was browsing for shoulder pain exercise books one day and I saw Rick Olderman's Fixing You: Shoulder and Elbow Pain and read some of the reviews. Every review I read was very positive and it excited me. When I started doing the exercises it really did feel like I was taking my first step towards repairing my left shoulder, and I think the key to it is not just the exercises, but understanding the mechanics of the shoulder and how it interacts with the rest of your body, that, I think is the reason why this book series works so well, before I read this I'm not sure if I knew where my humerus was or my scapula, but Rick's easy going explanations on how the body works makes this that much more enjoyable and approachable. Thanks Rick, you've improved my quality of life.

Shoulder Pain relief, Thank you !
At first, when i just got the book, i was disappointed. i guess i wanted to see a more detailed kind of book that will have more depth into it. but as soon as i started to read the book i was hooked, the simplicity in which the material is described is just what I needed. and it turns out the information was right on spot! needless to say i fixed my shoulder problem due to the information that was given. this is a must for anyone with shoulder pain!

Relieved Rotator Cuff Pain
Excellent book. The exercises provided immediate relief for my shoulder. When I looked at the exercises I thought how could these exercises and stretches to anything. Well....My shoulder feels much much better and I do the exercises/stretches regularly.
