Word of caution for orpat customers
A WORD OF CAUTION FOR CONSUMERS CONSIDERING ORPAT PRODUCTSI am sharing this because I believe consumers have a right to know about my experience with Orpat’s product and after-sales service. I have no personal, commercial or other grievance against the brand, and this post is based entirely on my own experience.I purchased an Orpat hand grinder through Amazon, delivered around mid-July. I started using it about two weeks later. It worked normally for approximately a week. Thereafter, the blade/shaft stopped taking the load while grinding small quantities of ordinary vegetable masala — onion, tomato and green chillies.Amazon directed me to Orpat as the return period had expired. What followed was a remarkably frustrating service experience.I was asked to register the complaint through Orpat’s app and upload the invoice and other details. I did so. Someone from the service department then called and asked for the same information again, which I supplied. After another 3–4 days, I was asked for my address and location. A service engineer visited after another day or two, inspected the grinder and confirmed that the shaft was defective and needed replacement. I was told that the part would be indented and replaced within about a week.It wasn’t.After a week, there was no action. I followed up.Meanwhile, another person from Orpat’s service department called me twice simply to ask whether the problem had been attended to — apparently without being aware of what had already happened. Then, after around ten days, I received another call informing me that I would have to pay ₹250 for the shaft. This was the first time I was told that the part was not covered under warranty. ₹250 may not sound like a large amount, but it represents roughly 30% of the price I paid for the entire grinder. When I questioned this, I was told that the engineer who inspected the product was himself not aware that the part was outside warranty. And the story did not end there.About a week later, yet another service engineer contacted me and said the earlier engineer had not taken any action and that a fresh visit would be arranged. Once again, I was asked to provide the bill, address and location.Five days later, despite follow-up, there is still no resolution. So, after weeks of calls, repeated submission of the same information, multiple service personnel and an engineer visit that identified the defective part, I am still left with a non-functional product.I fully understand that products can fail. That, by itself, is not my complaint. My concern is the quality of the after-sales experience — the lack of ownership, repeated requests for information, inconsistent communication about warranty coverage and, most importantly, the failure to resolve what appears to be a relatively simple replacement issue in a reasonable period.I am therefore sharing this as a consumer caution.Based on this experience, I personally would think twice before buying an Orpat product where dependable after-sales service matters.I am not suggesting that every Orpat product is defective or that every customer will have the same experience. I am simply putting my experience on record so that prospective buyers can consider it before making their own decision.Orpat may, of course, choose to respond or resolve the matter. If it does, I will be equally happy to update this post accordingly.Consumers deserve not only a product at the time of purchase, but also reasonable support when that product fails.
