Only part of the solution
Oh, rats! This isn't the perfect solution to my rat problem, but it will help some. I read the product page carefully, wanting to understand what it was I was buying. When I got it, I was disturbed by the fact that there was information on the product package that I wish had been shown in the picture on the product page. There were many cautions about use and exposure to the skin and eyes. I am almost afraid to touch this stuff, even though the ingredients seem to be fairly innocuous. I smell a rat! I like that this is not poison. I am always concerned about poison having effect beyond the intended target; for example: Insects eating a poisoned corpse, or natural predators like owls and hawks eating a rat that has been poisoned. I did some research to see how this works and found that the cottonseed oil disrupts sperm production in males and blocks egg viability in females. That sounds simple enough and there were reassurances that it does not apply to other animals. However, it is important to note that this means that the birth control is only a temporary thing; It only works while the cotton seed oil is in their system. If you stop using the bait, fertility will return after about 6 weeks. Rats must consume the bait regularly for it to work. If the only thing you are doing is using birth control for rats, it will be a very expensive adventure, especially if the little sausages attract more rats. It could be a never ending problem. Welcome to the rat race! However, I am hopeful for the way that I am doing it. I'm trying to eliminate the rats in my garage. I have sealed off the outside entrances and I am using the birth control inside the garage to eliminate any that have built nests inside the garage cracks in the wall. I have also put up some traps, including one that will electrocute quickly. If these things don't work I'm going to be crying like a rat eating onions. Rat on!

A non-lethal way of managing a rat population
We have a rat issue in our neighborhood (they eat my tomatoes and my neighbors large vegetable garden). I do not want to use poisons, and snap traps haven't been effective. It took a few weeks for the rats in our garden to start taking the bait, but once they started, they will empty the station within 2 days. We just started using this product this year - I am hopeful that this will decrease the population over time (I have seen fewer at night - and so far they haven't found my tomatoes - but too early to tell if it will totally save my vegetables). I will say, the larger bag ziplock works - the smaller bags, I have found the zip didn't function and I had to use a rubber band to reclose the bag.

Fingers crossed…
I would definitely give this five stars if I knew, for a fact that it worked, but I am not a rat obstetrician. Not sure if this works, but thrilled with the concept. I would rather them not have babies, then, poison, the rats, I despise. I have not seen sign of them, rats that is, Since implementing this product.

I have mixed reviews. Read this please.
The ants liked it! The smell brought a tail gate party of rats to my house. I have cameras I watch the ground with. I can not bring more rats to my house! I like the idea but it can be near anyone's house or garage. The rats would not eat it hole. They only ate it if sliced up. So now not only do I need to monitor the bait stations (which they wouldn't go into to eat it). I have to slice it up daily and serve it to them on a plate. Nope not doing that. On the city where houses are in close proximity its hard to find a place to put it. Because the rata do smell it and they will come. Slicing it up is key. Thats to much work back to Ratx covered in bacon grease. Easier and it works. This is a great idea I'd they would eat off the sausage as is. They don't. They like it sliced.

Don't know if it works because they won't eat it
EDIT* APPARENTLY WE HAVE A RAT AND IT'S SMART. It wouldn't touch this where it was lying around but destroyed a plastic mouse trap trying to get at the bait inside so apparently they do like it ... It just only wants it when it's a challenge. Must be a female rat. .....
