The interior is coated with a black enamel that protects the water from being in contact with the cast iron. As a tea pot, this product does what it is expected to do. As a kettle ? well, if used properly, it likely works fine but the main issues with kettles: water runs out, kettle overheats. In that case, this is likely not the best choice. This is sold as a tea pot not a kettle. Anyway, I just returned from Japan where traditional cast iron tea pots are easy to find and, for the same (40 oz), they sell for about 17,000 - 18,000 Yen - or about $120 and are heavy to carry around in your suitcase. The interesting thing is that there are not many different types to choose from - except for size. Most stores that sell cast iron tea pots carry the same brand in a single color (black). There are very occasionally copper tea pots and and rarely solid silver tea pots for 2-3x and about 10-20x the price of cast iron. In the end, since I was looking for an item I could use every day, I went for this tea pot at half the cost of the Japan made one and it is perfect.

For some reason I thought it was going to take longer because it's so strong and sturdy. It came with a little trivet and wooden prongs to hold the top while pouring. Absolutely beautiful ❤️ something that I feel will last a long, long time!

I absolutely love my teapot! It's the perfect size, keeps the water hot, I can use loose tea or bags, & for cast iron - it heats up very quickly. For some reason I thought it was going to take longer because it's so strong and sturdy. It came with a little trivet and wooden prongs to hold the top while pouring. Absolutely beautiful ❤️ something that I feel will last a long, long time!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful kettle, but watch your fingers!!

This is a great little tea kettle, but it does have one caveat; the lid can easily open when you are pouring and give you a nasty steam burn. I have learned to pour with one finger pressing down on the the little bulb-shaped handle on the lid to keep the lid firmly in place, but even while doing that I still get the occasional burn from steam coming up through the ventilation hole in the lid. Beware the steam. Those burns hurt like hell! 🔥😥 Pro tip: When the water comes to a boil, don’t try to move the kettle. Just turn the burner off and use the attached string to pull the lid back a little to vent steam. Just let it sit there for a few minutes and cool down. If you’re worried about the water getting cold; don’t. This kettle is thick and does an amazing job of keeping the water hot. Use your middle finger to press down on the lid handle as you pour
