Enrich your ELA curriculum with this brilliant 5-step blueprint to writing and nurture a lifelong love for writing! Review: Excellent book. Highly recommend. - This is a terrific book to educate kids about how to write well. Our third grader needed to work on her writing skills in preparation for a test to get into a talented and gifted program. I wanted a book that would explain as well as demonstrate the process of writing - outlining, drafting, editing, revising. The book is well written and best of all, provides examples of initial drafts as well as revised drafts to show how writing can be improved through more descriptive words, the use of quoted dialogue, etc. If your child is using this book in preparation for a particular type of essay test, I do suggest using writing prompts that are more tailored to the test they'll be taking. We went through just the first dozen or so pages, and combined with 20 mins of daily writing exercises, we saw a dramatic improvement in just a couple of weeks. Highly recommend. Review: My kids can finally write a good paper! - I homeschool my kids, (third, fifth, and twelfth grades, and have tried many writing curricula! We have used IEW, Lost Tools of Writing, Writing and Rhetoric, ect. While those books are all great and more expensive, this cheap, thin book goes through the five steps of writing and gives great examples! It was so gentle and offered interesting starting points, as well as steps to write decent 5 paragraph essays. This is not an all in all essay curriculum, but if you want your kids to write a paper using a formula, this is a great tool to have! This book offers a check list so the kids can critique their own paper as well as a check list for someone else to critique the paper. For instance, it ask the student if their title and beginning sentence make the reader want to read the paper. To others it ask if there is someone you want more information about. I will keep this book forever as a resource/reference for all papers in the future.

Good so far
We needed a writing review and this is doing the trick. My child will work on this on their own without much fussing.

Homeschool essential!
I bought this when my son was 8, we homeschool but for context if he was in public school he would have been nearing the end of 3rd grade. His writing was a daily struggle, he had tantrums about not knowing what to write, how to organize it, etc. We started this book that summer and the first assignment, personal narrative, we did very closely together. He did so well with it. We're now on the 3rd assignment and he has written SO MUCH, it's organized so well, and he is editing as he goes. This book has absolutely transformed our homeschool experience from daily struggles to ease.

Love this!
If you are looking for a good writing curriculum this is very well done. Every step is well explained. My recommendation is to use a notebook/notepad alongside this so you have this for future students! The pace provided may be enough for those who are not long winded ;) but if you need more room... an extra notepad is useful. I love this book though. So many good things to say about it.. Well worth the money and I appreciate the affordable price for this product!! I highly recommend this to anyone!

I am using currently to
To teach 3rd and 4th grade students composition writing. This is okay. I like the examples and the templates that come so you can teach or guide your child or student through each writing process. I am looking for something that is more step by step.

Easy to Follow Instructions, Writing and Editing
Easy to follow step by step instructions. Three types of basic writing covered - narrative, opinion, informational. Includes writing process steps, examples and editing steps worksheets. Best for 4th graders, a brush up for those starting 5th grade or 3rd graders that want to practice ahead.

Great book!
LOVE IT! Simple, well-written lessons that use easy to understand diagrams (concept maps) to teach narrative, opinion, and informative writing using a 5-step process. Like all books from this company (Critical Thinking Co.), there is plenty of practice that is easily graded using the simple scoring rubric!
