XFasten Waterproofing Membrane Sheet, 6” x 75 Ft Shower Waterproofing Membrane Tape for Underlayment Tile, EPDM Underlayment, Cement Board Tape

Decided to DIY my shower project since prices were way too high for something I could do myself. Had to redo the shower because the home builder (well, the tile folks who installed the shower), did it incorrectly and we had leaks. I researched how to do the project and YouTube has a lot of good information. I found one video using a product like this with a waterproofing compound so I bought this brand. I used it with AquaDefense and it worked great. I first installed the concrete panels and then used a mesh tape and thinset to bond everything. After it was dry, I applied a layer of AquaDefense and while it was wet, put this material over it. I precut the pieces and had all the cuts for folding and bending already set so the installation was faster. Once this product was installed, I recoated the top to allow it to suck up the waterproofing. After letting it day, I applied a second coat and it worked very well. For those 1 star reviews claiming this isn't waterproof, duh... it doesn't claim to be. This is meant to be used with a waterproofing compound like RedGuard, AquaDefense or others. I didn't find it too thin or too thick. It was perfect for it's intended purpose.

More flexible than other brands, so it's easier to do corners. You can put it on with the roll-on liquid waterproofing instead of using thinset. Works as advertised. Happy with this product.

X Fasten Fiberglass Waterproofing Anti-Fracture Membrane Fabric Tape, 6-Inch x 75-Foot Very excellant for reinforcing seams on the roof, and you saturate with roof (rubbery or latex) compound. The roof product is generally a bit thicker as paint and you paint it on the roof or object to be sealed and then saturate the cloth covering the seam. for clear understanding, there is NO STICKY on this cloth, it is just a cloth, that you use roofing material to attach to the roof. You can kin this to using paper tape when drywalling the seams in your house. The paper tape also has no stickyness to it, you use the wall mud to stick it. This is used to help the roofing material stretch without tearing, thus maintaining the seal on your roof. This is important on an RV because they are moving, seams open and close as you are driving down the road. This works great with products like Kool Seal but any product that you can roll or brush on should work. I also used in on an RV air con COVER thatwas cracking and used this and clear Truck Bed Liner to make it strong again. The Air Con covers are made of plastic, and they are greatly affected by UV light. The covers cost $200 to replace. Putting the Truck bed liner on also protects form Ice hail attacks by the weather. I wanted to get the Custom Building Products' 6" fiberglass mesh for a RedGard shower and shower pan I'm building, but the you-know-who orange Big Box store doesn't stock it, so I'd have to find a local Custom Building Products distributor and wait. It's Sunday and I wanted to figure out a supported alternative to RegGard's proprietary fabric. and I want to to get rolling now.. I bought the Laticrete waterproof membrane reinforcement fabric on Amazon, but I wasn't sure if it's compatible with RedGard (i.e. Custom Building Products' product line). I didn't want to run out of reinforcement tape, so I went to buy a 2nd roll of the Laticrete stuff, but noticed xFasten cost half as much! So I bought a roll, decided to compare them and will share what I found with you. Custom Building Products' anti-fracture tape claims explicitly that it is alkali resistant fiberglass. Alkali resistant fiberglass is specifically what Custom Building Products endorse for using RedGard waterproofing membrane over changes of plane. Unfortunately The Laticrete product is not fiberglass or at least makes no mention of it. However xFasten is alkali resistant fiberglass. I compared xFasten directly to the Laticrete fabric, I find them comparable. Both have strong sheer resistance but xFasten *seems* to be stronger. xFasten is softer and more pliable. The Laticrete fabric is a bit more structured/rigid but still basically soft/fiberous and pretty easy to work with. The Laticrete fabric holds creases and folds better, the xFasten fabric is easier to "re-calibrate" on the fly. I personally think all three manf's 6" waterproof membrane reinforcement tape they will do the trick for the task (i.e. reinforcing liquid-applied waterproof membrane at changes of plane), but since I have to get my shower pan inspected by the city, I wanted to be sure I could claim to the inspector if asked that I met the criteria specified by RedGard (fiberglass, alkalai reistant), so went with xFasten instead of the Laticrete fabric. If it was Monday I'd just have called Custom Building Product's support line and asked them if the Laticrete fabric (or xFasten) are acceptable for RedGard.

It was very lightweight and flexible giving you good maneuverability allowing it to be folded into corners. It also absorbed the cement very well allowing it to easily adhere to backerboard and cement board.

Worked on plenty of showers, this is a quality product. Use them in my shower and the 6 inch is wide enough to handle all showers. Will purchase again if and when I run out

Did the trick covering my drafty sliding glass doors against the winter winds.

It does the job and much cheaper than competitors. Easy to install. You can cover the corners of an entire house and probably you'll still have some left.

holds water proof memebranes very well; cheap and effective; if you do it properly you will not have a drop of leakage. The job of this membrane is only to hold your waterproof membrane (Red gard, etc).

Used as a step to waterproof a walk in shower renovation, was happy especially to have it around the opening for my shower niche and in corners of alcove build. Applied layer of waterproofing membrane, this product and another layer of waterproof membrane over it.

Used this with red guard. Did the corners and any joints, super easy to use. Very happy.
