Don’t Rush Love (Yaoi)

I'm so happy to have this back in my collection again! It looks amazing. Although, it does look a little different than the copy I used to have, it's still pretty great to hold this book again.

Don't Rush Love is a high school drama kind of story with your typical crying uke and rather unimpressive storyline. Morino is a new transfer at the school and very quickly falls in love with another student pretty much at first sight. Since he is staying in the dorms at this school, you can guess who his roommate turns out to be. Kusama, his new roommate and crush, has his sites set on one of his teachers, who of course has no idea about these romantic feelings and is seeing someone else. To deal with these frustrations, Kusama goes on the prowl at night when he should be in his dorm sleeping. Morino wants nothing more than to stop Kusama from these nightly excursions so he offers himself up as a substitute stand-in so Kusama has some way to release his frustration. The big question is... will Kusama finally confess his true feelings to the man he loves or will Morino cause him to see things in a different light? If you can't already tell, I was not impressed with this story's plot. I feel like I've read this type of storyline a thousand times and could easily predict where this story was going to go. I found myself even getting irritated in the beginning few chapters. It did get a little better toward the end when a few new characters were introduced into the mix. This story's one redeeming quality? There is a good deal of sex and it is VERY explicit. I've always said I can overlook a crappy plot if the sex is good and in this one, it definitely is. The character design is one you'll recognize if you've read The Sky Over My Spectacles. The characters tend to be a bit on the tall almost lankey side. I won't say they're not sexy but they could be sexier. Personality wise, I felt they were pretty typical roles for the seme and uke; lots of tears, blushing and miscommunication. The book itself has a nice cover and one color insert. 801 fans looking for the dust cover won't find it since they stopped providing them. The illustrations are nicely done with good detail, especially the sex scenes so if you are not a fan of detail in those areas then you may want to pass. However, if that is the case then 801 Media is probably not the publisher for you since hard yaoi is their specialty. The translation was really good and I had no trouble following the speech bubbles. If anything, there were just a few times I wasn't always sure about what was being said out loud and what was only being thought. In the end, if you are looking for a good plot, this is a definite pass. If you are looking for great sex and a hard yaoi title, this one will not disappoint. I love reading this manga. It was very good. I had no trouble at all. I enjoyed reading it.

The less appealing sequel to "Meeting You". I say that because the book contains an uncle/nephew relationship. Taboo pairings are popular but I don't care for them. This one is hard to skip over because the nephew is Kusama's twin brother and their relationship takes up half the book. It's too bad because I like the main couple very much. The art is very nice too.

I love Mio Tennohji's boys. There is an innocence in the uke which I find adorable. That said, the seme does come across a jerk at the beginning but soon wins your heart too. This is again so for "Don't rush Love" which has a great storyline as a newbie falls in love with his roomate, a stud. But the stud has been in love with his sensei for years. Will the newbie ever be able to make the stud "really looks at him"? Some angst filled moments here as I really feel for Morino as Souichirou Kusama takes advantage of Morino's love. As in "Meeting you", we again have the uke declaring his love for the seme first but the plot in Don't Rush Love is more engaging, the development of their love better explored. The romance between Souichirou's twin brother, Riichi, and their uncle, Seiji, is just as enjoyable as Souichirou and Morino got entangled in this couple's not very socially acceptable romance. I guess the second romance could be caught up in moral standards if the mangaka wishes to. But I am glad she did not opt to. The couple from "Meeting You" are featured in this story too and they are of course totally besotted with each other. I enjoy this mangaka's distinct artwork which is easily recognizable by her long limbed boys and nicely drawn hardcore sex. Another winner from 801 media :)

Morino ist neu an der Jungenschule. Er verleibt sich in seine Mitbewohner, der wiederum auf Ältere steht. Schafft es Morino ihn zu überzeugen, dass seine Liebe echt ist und darf erhoffen?

Inhalt: Als sein Vater überraschend nach Übersee versetzt wird, muss Morino mitten im Schuljahr von einer regulären Schule in eine mit angeschlossenem Internat wechseln. Dort verliebt er sich Knall auf Fall in seinen Zimmergenossen Kusama. Dieser hat jedoch nur Augen für den Lehrer Kanzaki-Sensei. Die ersten beiden Kapitel dieses Mangas erzählen wie Morino und Kusama ungeachtet des anfänglichen inneren Widerstrebens des Letzteren am Ende ein Paar werden. Danach folgt ein Kapitel, in dem es zu den BL-typischen Missverständnissen und Unsicherheiten kommt. In den letzten beiden Kapiteln lernt der Leser dann zusätzlich noch Kusamas Zwillingsbruder Riichi kennen, der seit seiner Kindheit in ihren Onkel Seiji verliebt ist. Zum Schluss gibt es dann noch eine vierseitige Bonusstory, die sich wieder ausschließlich um Kusama und Morino dreht. Bewertung des Inhalts: Inhaltlich gibt es nichts, wodurch sich Don't Rush Love sonderlich auszeichnet. Die Geschichte ist reichlich klischeehaft, was durch den episodenhaften Aufbau nicht unbedingt verbessert wird. Solange Kusama und Morino im Zentrum des Geschehens stehen, ist der Manga trotzdem ziemlich unterhaltsam. Die Beiden haben eine nette Dynamik, und die Konstellation, dass Morino sich Kusama als Ersatz anbietet, damit dieser nicht länger seinen (sexuellen) Frust ob der Tatsache, dass er Kanzaki-Sensei nicht haben kann, abreagiert, indem er Nacht für Nacht ihr Zimmer verlässt und sich außerhalb der Schule durch die Gegend p..opp..t hat aus Sicht eines Yaoi Fans durchaus einen gewissen Charme. Aber ab dem Moment, indem Kusamas identisch aussehender Zwillingsbruder Riichi samt seiner Leidenschaft für den Bruder seiner verstorbenen Mutter in den Fokus rückt, driftet die Geschichte in eine Mischung aus Kitsch, Pathos und Absurdität ab, die selbst für BL-Verhältnisse übertrieben dick aufgetragen ist. Leider bleibt bei diesen letzten beiden Kapiteln zudem auch der Humor, der bis dahin immer wieder aufblitzte und die Geschichte angenehm auflockerte, auf der Strecke. Dieser kehrt erst wieder in der kleinen, witzigen Bonusstory ganz am Schluss zurück. Indessen werden alle diese Mankos durch die Yaoi Parts hinreichend ausgeglichen - vorausgesetzt man gehört so wie ich zur Gruppe derer, die eine schwächelnde Handlung großzügig verzeihen, sofern es gleichzeitig ordentlich knistert und heftig zur Sache geht. Letzteres ist hier definitiv der Fall. Es gibt ziemlich viele Sexszenen, und alle sind überaus explizit und vom Härtegrad ohne weiteres mit Werken wie Finder vergleichbar. Man sieht wirklich alles und zwar mehr als reichlich. Bewertung des Artworks: Mio Tennohji hat einen Zeichenstil, an den man sich gewöhnen muss. Ihre Protagonisten haben unnatürlich lange Hälse und auch sonst stimmen die Proportionen oftmals überhaupt nicht. In manchen Panels haben die Jungs im Vergleich zu viel zu kleinen Köpfen klobige Körper mit überlangen Armen, und immer wieder werden ihnen viel zu große, abstehende Ohren verpasst. Interessanterweise sind die Yaoi Parts weniger fehlerbehaftet, so als hätte die Mangaka sich diesen mit einem Übermaß an Sorgfalt gewidmet. Gleiches gilt für die Close-Ups von Gesichtern, speziell der jeweiligen Semes. Diese schauen nämlich in der Regel auf ihre eigene Art und Weise sehr attraktiv und sexy aus und haben es drauf, sich mit intensiven Blicken auszudrücken. Zudem erkennt man im Verlauf des Manga dies betreffend die fehlerhaften Proportionen eine deutliche und sehr erfreuliche Verbesserung. Insgesamt betrachtet gefällt mir Mio Tennohjis Artwork trotz unverkennbarer Schwächen ziemlich gut. Es ist ausgesprochen individuell und hat einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert, was ich Beides überaus mag und schätze. Fazit: Mir haben die Teile der Geschichte, in denen Kusama und Morio im Mittelpunkt stehen, gut gefallen. Die Parts, in denen Kusamas Zwillingsbruder auftaucht, etwas weniger. Doch der Yaoi ist großartig. Daher vergebe ich insgesamt - absolut subjektive - noch vier Sterne. Wäre es möglich 3 1/5 zu vergeben, würde ich dies tun, aber wegen der klasse Yaoi Parts, die wirklich mal den Namen verdinen und zudem völlig unzensiert sind, runde ich hier letztlich eher nach oben auf als nach unten ab. Wer einen Yaoi Manga vornehmlich um des Yaoi wegen liest und darüber hinaus keine allzu hohen Ansprüche an die Handlung stellt und mit dem individuellen Stil Mio Tennohjis zurechtkommt, kann mit Don't Rush Love vermutlich nicht allzu viel falsch machen. Alle anderen sollten sich eine Anschaffung zweimal überlegen, zumal die Ausgaben von 801 Media wahrlich eine kostspielige Angelegenheit sind.
