I have had this for years now and it helps me keep an eye on how clean our water is. It works great every time.

This inexpensive TDS tester works quite reliably to my surprise. Distilled water : 0 ppm Smartwater (steam distilled with added minerals for taste): 23 ppm Straight tap water: 82-85 ppm depending on days, but mostly consistent for a sample. Filtrete Maximum filtered water: 81 ppm Royal Berkey filtered water (double filtered with Filtrete): 59 ppm. The only criticism is that the red lit background over 40 ppm makes it a bit tougher to read than the green lit background under 40, and that's the level I'm usually testing for my filtered hard tap water. For the price less than 13 bucks, it's forgiven. I'll update the review if the meter ever stops performing. January 3, 2022 update: The meter started flashing red lights when turned on that intuitively told me the meter finally ran out of battery. The instruction manual it came with mentioned nothing of battery replacement except that it came with a 3.0V button cell. I was shocked to find out that the battery (wrapped around in a yellow plastic band) was spot welded to two thin metal clips attached to a small motherboard. This TDS meter wasn't meant to allow the customers to replace the battery! I, however, was able to carefully pry off the two spot welding on both sides using a utility knife to slightly pry it out to allow a tiny flathead screwdriver to be inserted and carefully force off the weldings to remove the wrapped unmarked battery (do not attempt to simply pull out the battery). I then bent the metal clips closer together to wedge a new CR 2032 battery in between and taped it with a small piece of electrical tape to hold it in place. The TDS meters is now working perfectly again, but you have a high chance of messing up the above steps and ruining your meter if you're not good with your hands. I'm taking off a star (deserves more stars off) but the meter has been extremely useful for various purposes for my water filters, aquarium hobby, etc. No electronic manufacturer should sell a product with a permanently welded single-use battery! Beware of this problem, but at least for now, I seem to be good for a few more years of meter use.

I got this to test the different levels of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) between direct tap water provided by my municipality, bottled "smart" water purchased in a store, and filtered tap water using a carbon filter used in a typical filtered water dispenser. I expected the purchased bottled "smart" water to have the lowest TDS levels and it did not. I expected the filtered tap water to have a higher TDS level than the bottled "smart" water but it did not. To my surprise, the filtered tap water had the lowest total TDS level of all. Summary: 1 - Tap water had the highest TDS level, 2 - Bottled "smart" water had the next highest TSD level, 3 - Filtered tap water had the lowest TDS levels It would have been an interesting experiment to take the bottled "smart" water and put it through the carbon filter and see if its TDS level would be lower than the filtered tap water but I didn't extend the experiment to that step. In any case, whether your results are the same will depend on your own municipalities' filtration quality and the quality or brand of bottled water you use. I highly recommend this economical Digital Water Tester.

The first image is the TDS reading from one of my shrimp tanks. The idea that my TDS is 531 ppm is absolute absurdity. At that range my shrimp should be failing to molt and dying. I have multiple colonies of cherry red shrimp, blue dream shrimp, amano shrimp, and a single bamboo shrimp. I have not lost a single shrimp, especially not to a failed molt. It's far more likely the TDS is at about 231 or 331, a range livable by the shrimp. The second image is me reading RODI water straight from the system. It reads at about a 3 but after the water cools and settles it'll read a 0. It really seems like the accuracy only works when you are trying to read if you RODI system is working or not. Otherwise checking your tanks TDS is utterly useless with this device. Sure its easy to use and read, but I guess with this thing being so cheap you get what you pay for in terms of accuracy. Only purchase if you intend to use it to read straight RODI water, otherwise, skip this item.

Needed to test my water here in Florida and this device is so easy to use. I have a filtration system at one of my sinks which I wasn't sure was still operating at optimum level. I did a test of that system compared to my regular sink and results were incredible. It confirmed that my filtration system was still doing its job and that the water at the sink was not suitable for drinking. The device is easy to use and quick. Inexpensive and works great.

I bought “different” 3 tops rated TDS testers from Amazon. Two of them(the white and purple In photo ) just branded differently, but made from the same manufacture in China. The build quality is okay. The reading is somewhat accurate(maybe a little higher). The biggest problem is the battery not user replaceable. If this is what you Looking for,Just get the one with best price. The TDS-EZ (blue one in photos )is a little more expensive, but the build quality is better(design in U.S.A & Korea, made in India). Wife was getting sucked into the hype of a certain (expensive) water filter system which was supposed to create zero dissolved solids water from our tap. After reading mixed reviews about the very short filter life of those models, I decided to invest a few bucks to test my current water to see if I needed it. Got the meter and tested my water out of the tap and it was 48, which the chart shows as fairly soft water and equivalent to a carbon filtered system. Ran the water through an inexpensive filter pitcher and got a reading of 37. Clearly we were good enough to avoid the cost of the "zero" filter system. I can only guess how many dollars I saved by spending a few bucks on this meter. It is very easy to use and the results were repeatable, so I trust it is accurate.
