Difficult but worth it.
I can't understand all the negative reviews for this game. It is difficult and at times a little buggy but even now, with all the modern first person shooters as competition, it's way better than the rest. I was surprised at how abruptly it ended but the game play was great. You can't be Rambo with this game, that's for sure. There's a lot of thinking goes into taking out an enemy soldier although sometimes the only thing to do is run like hell and snipe from a safer position and hope they can't see you. Sometimes your team mates are a bit lame but on the whole they do alright. It's not perfect but I wanted more when it finished. They say the next in the series is pretty bad but considering the bad reviews this one got I'm inclined not to believe it. My advice is buy it and try it for yourself. It's really cheap anyway. What have you got to lose?

Have played this to the end and enjoyed doing it full of action and a pretty good story line. Am waiting for the next installment.

A brutal and punishing shooter - only for the hardcore
Tom Clancy's 'Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2' is a bit of a baffling contradiction in terms: - these 'ghosts' are never silent or stealthy. As a general rule - apart from maybe 3 or 4 kills in the entire game - the moment you drop a target everybody in the area knows you're there, regardless of whether you used silenced weapons or took the guy down out of sight. It's really a battle simulator based around a small special forces team with high tech gear. The graphics are pleasant, and the plot and tension build gradually like a decent story. The guns can also be quite satisfying to use.Unfortunately there's a lot stopping this from being a great (or enjoyable) shooter.First of all, it's buggy. Even with the latest patches, my version crashed out completely 5 times.Secondly, the dialogue is terrible. Your pilot and commander have a bad habit of using badly pronounced French to liven up their announcements that there are lots of enemies, and the voice acting is almost always over-emphatic or extremely cheesy, your character announcing smugly at one point: "I'm a Ghost, and I was never here!" when asked his name. The music is weirdly uneven as if the sound designers couldn't decide where it should go - or even what type. Often it's very good orchestral backing, varying to excellent towards the end of the game. But then, as if they realised it was a long sequence and they'd forgotten to order any music to fit it, the game plays incredibly fast thrash Metal music over a sequence of a pickup truck VERY slowly performing a 3-point turn in an industrial estate side street. Seriously - it's so slow it takes over half a minute. It was so out of place it gave me the biggest belly laugh I've had in a game in ages. The pathfinding is also offensively stupid.Your squadmates will often blindly wander into a withering hail of gunfire, yelling "I'm hit!" before plunging to the floor, only for your commander to emotionally advise you that you have to go on. It's distasteful when combined with the level of combat realism, and the game makes you suffer it again and again and again. They also struggle more and more to get around objects as the game goes on. At one stage I had to rescue a character and perform a mission as I escorted them out of a villa's grounds...and my rescued chopper pilot quite literally couldn't find his way out of a huge, open barn door. I had to go into the map and show him how with waypoints. Oddly, reinforcements will often tell you 'I can't do that!' if you try to send them somewhere in 1st person, but will be fine with it if you direct them with the map-system. It's petty and irritating.I was also very disappointed that the designers chose to steal one of their biggest plot points from sister Tom Clancy game Rainbow Six Vegas, which felt like lazy self-plagiarism.The game is also punitively difficult. I don't know if it's just a balance issue with the PC version, but the balance is horrendous. Somewhere in between designing the levels and trying to make it realistic, they forgot to remember to make it fun.Save points are often half a map apart, separated by up to 30 or 40 bad guys, 3 mounted machinegun posts, an armoured vehicle, a troop helicopter and an attack chopper.Add to that the fact that the bad guys are all supernaturally gifted shots and will kill you with as little as 2 bullets if you stick your head out for more than a second (literally) from half a mile away, sending you right back to the start all over again - on 'Easy' (!) - and the game often feels spitefully, mercilessly difficult. What should have been fun and exciting became a bitter unenjoyable slog, with me having to replay one section about 35 times to complete it. Bear in mind that I'm a very experienced and 'decent' shooter player with hundreds of hours of experience and you can see this is not a game for those looking for a throwaway fun time.In the end I was so determined to complete it that I fought my way through to the end. But it's the least fun I've ever had, and I've never been more glad to see the back of a computer game. Approach with caution.

It was as good as I expected
It was as good as I expected. I am not used to playing a game where I have to give orders to a Squad. So, I shall give it a go.
