Max's Sandwich Book: The Ultimate Guide to Creating Perfection Between Two Slices of Bread

Lovely little book, great recipes especially the foccaccia. Covers all areas in the quest for an interesting lunch!

I love London and I love food, and the only thing I love more than London and food is books. So a book about London and food ticks all my boxes. So I decided to open my amazon parcel with Max's book in Max's Sandwich shop - look at the picture of the famous "ham, egg and chips sarnie" - and then eat the sandwich... So I popped in on Sunday - and it was a brilliant experience - flicked through the book and then got my sandwich - good simple food done amazingly well... The book is such a great idea because everyone loves a good sandwich. And Max and Ben have a lovely way of communicating their passion about the "humble sandwich". By the way, Max's sandwich is on the front cover of Time Out London magazine this week and the "ham, egg and chips" is considered to be the one of the best sandwiches in London - if not the best. As a London food lover - I'll hold back judgement until I've eaten the other three sandwiches on the menu. And as for the book, it covers over a trillion sandwiches to make, talks about different breads, sauces etc and is full of lovely pictures. And if you take your copy to the shop, Max will sign it and write nice things about you or whoever you've bought the book for. I'm keeping my copy in my Black Cab - I'm a london cabbie - to encourage people to venture up to Crouch Hill and meet Max and eat his lovely sandwiches.

I bought this after seeing "The Sandwich Man" a couple of times on Sunday Brunch. He's totally mad and very matter of fact in a comedic way and his food looks (and tastes by all accounts) amazing. There are some great ideas in the book and good tips too for pimping up flavours in your sandwiches. He gives the recipe for his go to bread, focaccia, which is the one they use most in his café. However there are also plenty of recipes using plain old white sliced, baguettes, pittas etc. Worth buying.

Witty banter but delicious recipes

This is probably the third copy I've bought of this book for friends. I've made almost all of the sandwiches repeatedly and its an absolute sandwich bible. I've yet to visit Max's shop - but until then, this book will have you full of very nice sandwiches and in stitches. Max is hilarious Read the recipe for the BLT for prose at its finest!

Never laughed out loud to a cook book before! Most entertaining sandwich book out there! It has a good selection of tasty recipes and gives you the choice of making everything from scratch or buying ready made ingredients. This books has great recipes but more than that it is a fun read, it's has songs, jokes and swear words! it reads in an entertaining way! Plus I've seen Max on the TV and he is a fun, outrageous kinda person .... this comes across in the book. A must buy.

Really funny fantastic recipes with great alternatives to the shop stuff. We have a Tesco Local next to us and most stuff available there. One review said not many actual sandwich recipes that he didn't know. I don't know you get up to in that London but I for one hadn't mixed gravy with Mayo. I thought we had strange things up here but Pork Pie Mayo. The book is a delight thank you Sunday Brunch. Ordered another two for Xmas presents one for daughter in law in SF and one for brother in law more local down the road. Two for £20 on Prime at the moment.

Great book with amazing recipes!

Although some of the recipes are complex or time consuming, and some ingredients are hard to find, this book encouraged me to experiment and try sandwich combinations I otherwise wouldn't have come up with. The book is more useful as a source of ideas for sandwiches than for the sandwich recipes themselves. It is also very fun to read.

I think this is the funniest, most coffee-table-worthy cookbook I've ever read. 'I might have put 'nduja on it too, I'm not sure,' 'That lettuce you always buy' as an ingredient, 'Oh god now I'm thinking about lasagna' mid-recipe -- I'm a fan. The pictures are also great in that you can mostly see what ingredients are in there which is not easy with all sandwiches, making it quick to show a friend or a potential future diner what you're thinking of making. I see people here with varying opinions about whether the recipes are worth following or not. I think something great about this book is that he's separated out the full recipes (making foccaccia, braising meat) vs the sandwich combinations themselves, so it's really up to the user how many of the elements to make from scratch, buy from a store, or somewhere in-between. I just need an American-British English dictionary because a few of these ingredients I'm still not sure what he means :)

Great recipes, funny prose. I should take a star off for Max' bizarre aversion to cheese, but the recipes are just that good.

Gutes Kochbuch von nem lustigen Kerl aus England. Habs mir nach ein paar Youtube-Clips von ihm gekauft und bin von den ganzen Ideen, Sandwiches zu füllen, echt begeistert.
