The Manual For Police Interrogations
DNA exonerations of persons wrongly convicted of crimes shows that false confessions are a significant problem, and that persons who are factually innocent nevertheless confess to crimes as serious as rape an murder without being guilty. As I have read a lot of articles and books lately that talk about the things that promote false confessions, the "Reid Method" of police interrogation is a ubiquitous component of the problem. This method dates back to the 1950's, and has been taught to every major and most minor police organization. The idea that a trained officer can tell when someone is telling the truth--using the methods in this book--has been demonstrated to be false by recent behavioral studies. The assumptions underlying much of this method, and the encouragement of officer's rote testimony as to those unvalidated assumptions can be picked up in this book. The components of an interrogation, the way an officer is trained to approach the subject, and structure the questions, police behavior, and environment of the questioning are all laid out here, as well as the significant difference in police thinking between what is an "interview" and what is an "interrogation."Unless you work in the criminal justice field--as a police officer, prosecutor, criminal defense lawyer or judge, you probably won't have any use for this book. If you need to know the details of how police officers think about interrogating suspects, and the methods they use, this book is absolutely essential.

An amazing textbook!
Straightforward, easy to understand, and with examples from the authors' professional life. I didn't think the perfect textbook existed until this one. It somehow manages to being densely packed with information yet remains interesting. A true joy to read. I always wait till the last two days to read entire units. This is a book you can't put down!

Even Works Well With Acoustic Guitar
I couldn't find much positive on the internet regarding using octave pedals on acoustic guitars. Took a chance on the BOSS OC3 and am very pleased. Using the poly dial, I was able to pretty much isolate the effect to the low E and A strings so that I could play bass lines and chords simultaneously which give the impression of having both a bass and rhythm guitars playing together, which is the point. Right?. Of course, works real well with solid body.

GREAT book, probably the best book I've found on the subject
I had previously bought Advanced Interviewing Techniques by Schafer & Navarro, which is pretty good, and Interviewing and Interrogation by Rabon and Chapman, which isn't very good. This book is by far the most exhaustively complete book on the subject and the best written. It covers the Reid method which is a huge boon unto itself. It is THE best book for conducting interviews and interrogations for investigations that I have found. If anyone finds a better one, please let me know.

Exceptional
I read this book several years ago (third edition) and downloaded the fifth edition to take with me to teach an interrogation program in Moldova. This book was the perfect training resource. Whether you are new in the business or an "old hand" , this is probably the best book on interrogation ever written.

Good source of information
Although I did not agree with the Reid method as I started to study detection of receipt, many of the techniques taught will be useful to my counseling practice

A Classic text
Despite all the the ethical issues raised with recent research in investigative interviewing, and the potential for this approach to cause false confessions, still a classic text in the field.
