This is the lightest and smallest knife sharpening kit I own. I own many but now this is the only one I carry on me at all times. I carry that one in a leather pouch where I carry my iPhone. That pouch has a pocket for the phone and an adjacent pocket in which I carry a phone cleaning cloth. By putting this kit in the adjacent pocket with the stropping surface on the side towards the glass of the phone it provides extra protection to the phone. This is a very versatile unintended use. This also means I conveniently always have this kit with me. The other (same) kit I carry in my backpack. The small tabs on a corner are marked with the grit size. Holding the tab during the sharpening use is easy. It does need focused attention any time the blade is moved toward the tab. The two coarsest surfaces did seem to have a bit of grit that could be felt as the knife edge passed over that point. A few passes with a large other stone removed those points on the edge. I cleaned the edges of both kits that way and eliminated that situation. The diamond cuts fast. Good sharp knives probably don’t need the coarsest grits. The strop will probably be most frequently used. I haven’t added any kind of stopping paste because I find the pastes get on other things. The quality of the grits seems good and uniform across each surface. I think the price purchases both great utility and a good measure of convenience. I did discover for me keeping a kit in my backpack pocket next to my small thin wallet of about the same size was not for me. A nice man noticed me drop one kit when I took out my wallet. I easily could have lost it because I didn’t notice I dropped it. I really like these kits. I do recommend them.

What a neat little kit! This dual-grit diamond sharpener from The Bear Essentials is impressively compact, about the size of a credit card – perfect for throwing in a pack or carrying every day. Got this for my husband for his birthday. He LOVED it! Compact and lightweight, just toss it in your pack. No sence or safety to be using a dull knife. Only thing I would add to this is a toggle.

Excellent sharpener that you can use in the field and not have to use spit or oil to use.

This kit was precisely what I was looking for. I do long, solo canoe camping trips. During which, I am usually fishing, and eating as much as I can catch. Eventually, my fillet knife starts to get a bit dull. I needed a good kit that I could pack with me, but not add bulk or weight. I knew I wanted credit card sized diamond plates, and leather for stropping. I don’t wear leather belts canoe camping, because they always get wet eventually. This is not an idiot proof sharpening set, it will require some understanding of manual sharpening technique, but it was perfect for keeping a keen edge on my fillet and pocket knife. I even use the 200 grit plate to keep my hatchet touched up. It was definitely more expensive than I thought it should be, and maybe that’s partially explained by the fancy metal tin, and burlap bag, and general non-utility, gift like, presentation. But I found no smaller or lighter option that I knew would keep me shaving hairs off my arm. The 4 grits, in a leather storage wallet, with a raw side for stropping, is perfect, and I expect to be using this for decades. I’ll probably take it traveling with me too, knives in AirB&Bs are always in need of some help. And it only weighs 2oz folks, that’s phenomenal!

Works well. I am able to sharpen my knife easily as long as I don’t wait until it is completely dull. This tool is for a quick sharpening. It is easy to use and carry. The size i small. It is fairly durable. And considering that it is produced in USA, not too expensive
