Fantastic Amp
Excellent beginner amp, especially for the price. It’s got amazing features and is more than loud enough for anyone really. It’s super functional with lots of options, but the free app you can get on your computer really takes this thing to the next level. Any tone sounds amazing on this thing from clean to crunchy distortion, this amp can do it all, and at a great price.

Lots of options, good value, decent sound
For the money, you get a lot of value. I only use this as a practice amp, however, it can get reasonably loud. The built in effects etc will save a beginner from having to resort to pedals. It can slightly model some amps. The cabinet is open back and the walls are not as thick as an expensive amp, but it is still sturdy. Nice handle, appearance and seems pretty durable if it gets banged around. Lots of options on the rear. No bluetooth, but you can add later, unlike the Positive Grid. But I like them both for different reasons. A great practice or starter amp.

Unreasonably good
This little guy has no business being so good for what it is. $300 is nothing. It's loud enough for the melee jams I do with friends. It's light enough to carry around without stressing. The amp sims are excellent. The effects are the weakest part, but if you install the app you can override the default with some things that are much better. Installing the app is a pain, though.

Great Price, Lots of Effects
I've been researching amps for a couple months before buying one, and read a lot about BOSS Katana amps being a good, affordable beginner amp that is also useful as you advance. After buying the BOSS Katana 50W Gen 3, I am very happy with the amp. I just recently bought my first electric guitar and amp and this amp lived up to all my expectations. It has a huge range of tone, and I've been able to dial in the right kind of sound that I want. I only need something for playing at home, so it is plenty loud. I also opened the BOSS Tone Studio, which was very nice. It was helpful to watch a tutorial to figure out how to download it, and to intially figure out some of the dials. I was very satisfied with all the sounds that were on it already, so I didn't really change much except for adding a fuzz effect on the booster knob. Before buying this amp I had tried two other amps, one was a tube and the other was a modelling amp, both older Marshalls, and this BOSS Katana was definetly a better choice because of the range of effects and volume for a good price. Even though it's not a tube amp, I think it sounds very nice and works great. The only thing I wish had been added to the Gen 3 was bluetooth without the extra accessory. Thats a pretty standard thing now so it's a little odd for it not to be added, but otherwise I am very happy. I feel that I will be able to learn and grow on guitar with this amp for years and not want to replace it.

Enjoying it more as I become familiar with the controls/features.
Was looking for an amp to replace a Line 6 spider 20w that has developed issues with the preset controler that forced me to always connect my tablet to be able to view the presets settings. Didn’t really need a 50w amp but didn’t see any I liked in the 20 to 30w range that offered similar features, except another Line 6 but didn’t want to go with one of those again. The presets are nice and the controls are easy to learn. Haven’t even connected my tablet to it yet and don’t see any reason to rush to do so. Pros: The built in output attenuator allowing me to set the output power level is very nice. The controls are simple to use. The six presets all sound good and modifying them is easy. Cons: Standard price. I got it for a $30 discount plus another $39 for the BT attachment. If I had to pay the full price and add the BT adapter, I would have looked hard at the Fender Mustang 50GTX that would be about the same $ with built in BT. Didn’t like the rear/top mounted controls as they force me to stand up and lean over the amp to get to them. Would have preferred a top/ front control layout, but I’m getting used to this and it’s becoming less of an issue. Plus most amps of this type also have the same rear/top layout (except Line 6 and didn’t want to go there again) So I happy with the purchase and hope for years is use and would recommend.

I was skeptical to be honest as I have always been a tube head. I love my mesa boogie that I had to left on my home country while I'm living abroad. I was looking for an affordable option to get an all-in-one amp that would do most of the job (FX) as I only brought my Gibson SG with me. I have a few BOSS analog pedals that I like, so I thought they would know better how to do it digital and not risking their brand reputation. Guess what?! It is really good! FX are good and easy to set, amp models offering a wide range of organic and warm sound. Mine is the 50W model, same as my Mesa Boogie. It doesn't sound as good and loud, but I knew that would be an unfair comparison as my Mesa costs 5x more. It does sound quite loud and you can definitely use it on stage having it either microphoned or sending out from the amp to a mixer. I haven't checked the previous Katana generations, but I bet this 3rd Gen is the best. For what's worth, I would say there's no better choice on the market to date. I can see a need for a footswitch ($$$) to go through the saved presets when playing with a band. If the footswitch was more affordable, it would be a home run. BOSS nail it!
