I've not cut wood that thick, but I've cut countless counter tops with no problem. **Q: How much does it weigh (just the tool) and how long is the cord?** A: I would say it is around 10 - 12 pounds. Not a light cheap tool. The cord is around 12 foot long. Hope this helps **Q: What is the benefit with barrel grip** A: I'd say it was more gimmicky than anything. But... I'm sure there's a speal about it being anti fatigue and research having gone into the most comfortable design and blah blah blah. As a user, I must say that I'm impressed with it. It's been comfortable for extended use and fatigue has not been a problem. I guess I haven't paid much attention to it since the problems not there.
