MCDEX Grab Bars for Shower, 12 Inch Shower Handle for Seniors, 2 Pack

These are the best purchase for the shower that I made in a while. They are really handy and hold firmly and support my weight when leaning to wash.

This reveiw is for MCDEXgrab bars only. MANY GRAB BARS LOOK LIKE THESE BUT THEY MAY NOT WORK AS WELL. The grab bars adhere readily to flat tile surfaces. Have used on two types of tiles. The 12 inch bar just barely fits on 4 inch tile. It spans 3 tiles just perfectly. Works on 12 inch tiles quite well. Have just got these and the bars have held firm for 2 days. The compression arms take more effort than you might expect.. The grab bar will adhere WITHOUT compressing the bars but they will not hold.

If I could give this zero stars, I would. These MCDEX grab bars are crap, and I didn’t realize how terrible a product these were until my mother-in-law replaced this MCDEX brand with the Taili brand grab bars. Until we installed the Taili brand bars, the MCDEX bars had me thinking all non-permanent grab bars are flimsy by nature. My parter had a terrible fall after slipping in our tub and grabbing the MCDEX bar to stabilize himself. The bar immediately fell with him. Thanks to his training in the Marine Corps, he knew how to fall without any significant harm, his head narrowing missing the toilet. If it happened to me in my disabled & weakened body, I would have been seriously injured. By comparison, the material for the MCDEX suction cups are poor quality, thin and flimsy. There’s no adhesive or anything to actually help them stay secure. Sure, the MCDEX bars anre easy to adjust, but that’s because they are only good for light touches that don’t actually put weight into them. The Taili brand that replaced these have actual suction pads that are many times thicker and sturdier. They also have a strong adhesive on the pads. There’s no way the Taili brand ones are coming off, even with hefty weight put into it. Don’t trust the MCDEX brand bars or any positive reviews.

After having a visit to our local hospital, we were advised to get some shower safe gripping handles for our shower. After looking at a large number of the options available on Amazon and elsewhere, we decided to give these a try, and we have been extremely pleased. While the handles themselves are lightweight and easy to reposition, once the suction cup is securely placed, it can hold my weight fine for getting into and out of our shower/tub. The size is a bit large, but fits our handles quite well. The handle itself feels nice, with a slight texture to the main gripping area. The only reason I cannot give these a 5 is we have noticed that at random times they will loosen, and fall off the tub. These tend to be when there are wild temp changes (we keep our upstairs, and bathroom cool, and when we had the AC off one day while out, the temps climbed, and we came back to it lying in our tub), or high pressure changes (one or twice, before a big storm, when the pressure changes quickly, you'll hear the suction cup make a noise and disengage from the tub wall). However, these have been extremely infrequent, and we check to make sure the handles are securely fastened prior to showering, to ensure their sturdiness & support remain strong.

After having my ankle rebuilt, I needed help to get in and out of our shower-tub combo as I could only put weight on one foot. I have one on the side for help getting in and one on the back wall for help while showering. Installation: This was super easy to install. Just put where you want and press the tabs down! That’s it! The first time one of the tabs wouldn’t go down so we simply flipped it the other way and had zero issues. Weight limits: I have put all of my weight on one handle and had 0 issues with it sliding or moving. I am 230 pounds so am impressed! Removal: When I was finally able to go back to the master bedroom upstairs, I wanted these to come with me as an added security when I shower. I just flipped the lock up and it released. Carried them to their new home and again in seconds was re-installed. Cleaning: we clean this the same way as the rest of our tub-shower combo. I remove, clean the walls, and reinstall.

They are sturdy, but they fall off frequently and hit the tub when falling. We had to completely remove them since they don't feel safe.

One was easy to put on, the other had trouble. & recently the one that went up didn’t hold up weight wise. Went to grab & it slid right down. Maybe for toddlers not for adults, sadly.

Very well made. Just be sure to keep them moist so they stay on the shower wall.

Installed in shower for post operative safety Have kept them in as offer security having in place. The bar is a good grip size and certainly not flimsy The suction is extremely strong and hasn't moved at any time. Fantastic option to having to install permanent fitting into shower tiles.
