It works well for me, for now atl.
Great, for local storage either networked or not. Recommend replacing their garbage usb cable that comes with it (cable matters makes a good one). Pretty silent under low operation, speed is usb. Lifespan with seagate is hit or miss. I’ve had drives from them last a couple days and I’ve had drives last nearly a decade so hardware gambling. Wouldn’t recommend anything sensitive going on it, if it dies it’s gone. I use mine paired with a local caching machine for windows and steam updates. (Games too) it runs on the network via that “server” and as I learned when dealing with mechanical drives, don’t put stuff on it you can’t afford to lose. Was getting 460ish MB/s average read and 390ish MB/s write with your peaks and dips associated with HDD madness.

Love this HDD thus far.
The 24 TB external HDD USB 3.0 works great thus far. It has a write speed of about 200 Mb per second. It is not very noisy in my opinion. It is compact for such a large storage device. I paid $259 for it when it was on sale...that's $10.79 per terabyte. Retail price appears to be $358 for it. It transfers MP4 videos with no problems. Hard Drives do wear out with use, so I'm not sure how long the drive will last. Also there is a risk in storing so many files with the possibilities of the drive failing in the future. So it would be very wise (in my opinion) to partition the drive and in smaller terabytes amounts. The file system is in exFat format which allows for storing large files. It Is important to partition it first before use if you plan to partition it...not after being used.

Good price and good option for high-cap storage
This drive operates reliably and performs as expected. Deployment was straightforward, making it a solid option for anyone needing high-capacity storage at a reasonable cost. The speed and durability have been more than sufficient for my daily use so far.

Caution: Read Before You Buy A Seagate Harddrive
Do not purchase. Buy from any other well known hard drive company that offers good reviews and good warranty. I thought Seagate was good and used them for years and because of what I thought was a good warranty and data rescue plan, I bought their products. First I recently had a 20tb external drive I bought with I though had a Great warranty. After it stopped working before my warranty ended, I tried using the warranty and data rescue plan. First they tell you yes they will try to rescue your data if you send in your drive, but if they cannot do it they will only send you a new replacement, if you let them throw your old one away. I said no to this because if they cannot rescue my data I want someone else to try it again because my data is seriously irreplaceable. So their terms say they won't send me a new replacement if they cant throw mine away even if they cant rescue it. That is a big red flag. If the old drive breaks under warranty they should fix or replace it no matter what, but they state in their warranty that if you send your bad drive in under warranty they will automatically send you a new replacement you have to use while they try to rescue your old drive and data. I sent mine in and one of their replies even was they received it and they would send a replacement drive out soon while they retrieve data from my old one if they can. A few weeks later now I still never received the 20tb. External drive like they promised and I did just receive my successfully rescued data on a nice internal 20tb. Drive that I cant do anything with unless I install in my computer but I am using a laptop so it does me no good. They also even stated I should have either received a replacement external drive by now also or will soon. It has been a week now since they sent the internal drive and I have not heard anything about, or seen anything showing they sent me a external 20tb. Replacement. Although I am grateful they did rescue my data, I am very upset they did not send my replacement external drive as promised several times in their warranty and replies to me. So even though I bought a cheaper 6tb. Seagate external drive to hold me while I was expecting my 20tb. Replacement, I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER SEAGATE EVER, since they DO NOT COMOLETELY HONOR THEIR WARRANTY AS THEY SAY IT AND HAVE IT WRITTEN. Even though Seagate are slower than Western Digital, I always bought Seagate because I liked the way their warranty sounded much better so I trusted them. Now I will just go with Western Digital who I used for many years and actually never had one fail me yet, I only purchase more drives as I fill them up, but showing Seagate don't actually replace their broken ones with exact replacement drives also as they say in their warranty, I will myself and recommend everyone else purchase from Western Digital or another well branded hard drive company, NOT SEAGATE. This is all based off my 30 years experience and over 100s of Terabytes of data stored.

Great drive but hobbled by cheap, loud enclosure
Great value per gigabyte. I recommend replacing the included USB (type B micro connector to USB type A) with type B micro connector to USB C for faster performance. The downside is the drive can be very loud when spinning up so you don't want to be using this drive in a quiet area like a bedroom. There is an included utility to keep the drive awake this but it only works on Windows. I have several of this model and all have had the same issue--it's a design flaw in the logic board not a defect in the drive itself. As others have pointed out, these drives do have an almost guaranteed failure rate. But, in my experience it is always a logic board failure and not a drive failure. Placing the drive in a new enclosure always gets the drive running again with zero data loss and fixes the noise issues as well. If you are thinking of buying this drive to shuck it's a great value but otherwise know you will most likely be replacing the enclosure due to failure about year two or three.

It’s clicky-clacky loud, but that’s OK
The transfer of the data is quick, but that’s kind of depending on what you’re doing and what cord is plugged in between your laptop and this hard drive.. I got a different cord that came with the hard drive that was able to transfer data a little quicker. However, I really like the drive. I was able to put16 external hard drives on it. And yes, it makes a lot of noise when it’s running, but I’m users to a noisy drive, considering I’m 63 and I’ve been using computer since the late 80s. Heck, besides being really noisy… Drives back in the olden days were something like $125 for 125 MB of space for your data. Well it’s not fast enough for games and things like that, however I found it very reliable and it fits on my desktop quite neatly.

it requires external power and a usb
not the fastest but def gets the job done! As a person who records up to 800 videos a week its perfect, I don't regret it and id purchase it again

Great pricing and stable transfer speed
What i like about this HDD is the stable transfer speed with power supply unlike other that are unstable transfer speed. Got few TB of data transferred at ease. Only thing that might be a down side is the sound created might be a nuisance but overall it works very well for my heavy data. Will be back if data exceed again!
