Updated in 2018. Samuel Rees Howells, A Life of Intercession: The Legacy of Prayer and Spiritual Warfare of an Intercessor by Richard A. Maton, Paul Backholer and Mathew Backholer. Paperback and hardback editions include 39 black and white photos. Rees Howells, a powerful intercessor, taught his son Samuel the principles of intercession and commissioned him some weeks before his death, stating, "Whatever you do, stand and maintain these intercessions." For the next fifty-four years, Samuel Rees Howells exercised a powerful intercessory ministry as he focused prayer on gospel liberty, in order for the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be given to every creature. With the mantle of intercession weighing heavily upon him, Samuel spent decades participating with others in their own countries, in profound spiritual struggles that shook world events and shaped history for God's glory! Discover how Samuel was led by the Holy Spirit to exercise authority over the principalities and powers, and to 'pray through' until God's purposes were fulfilled in many lethal world conflicts. Learn how God still intervenes in world history, from the Korean War to the Cuban Missile Crisis, and from the Six-Day War to the fall of the Soviet Union! Beginning in the days of Rees Howells, this book continues this powerful story of intercession and traces its effectual legacy into the twenty-first century. Filled with principles of intercession, faith and spiritual warfare, this book provides a fascinating insight into what is possible when the Holy Spirit finds an individual, who will stand in the gap and become a channel for His intercession. Ezekiel 22:30, Romans 8:26-27, Ephesians 6:12. Richard A. Maton worked under Samuel's ministry for forty-seven years and provides us with an eyewitness account of Samuel's life of intercession. Richard is married to Kristine who joined Rees Howells' Bible College in 1936 and prayed alongside him. Together Richard and Kristine spent more than 120 years at the College! Review: Ecxellent book, loved it - Excellent book, loved it! Review: Fantastic - This book is a wonderful read, based on much experience. A must read
For anyone wanting to learn about intercession and the impact it has had on our lives today, this is a must read. I would strongly suggest first reading Rees Howells for a foundation in intercession and then reading this book as a follow up.

Not by Natural Inheritance
By natural inheritance, Samuel Rees Howells was the quiet son of Rees Howells, Intercessor, whose biography was written in 1952 by Norman P. Grubb. That biography, still in print, ends by describing how the Bible College of Wales received Samuel as its new director after the 1950 death of Rees Howells: "not by natural inheritance." With this biography of the son, we now have a record of the Holy Spirit's continuing work of intercession at the college. It more than fulfilled the desire of Rees Howells for "Joshuas" to complete the works begun through himself. The college did indeed send many into the mission field. It also joined with Samuel Rees Howells in new intercessions, of which the greatest, from 1962 to 1987, was for the demise of Communism. The demise began at the Berlin Wall in November, 1989. In 1987, the college was told that their intercession was complete, and they could look for the end. For readers unfamiliar with the work of the Holy Spirit in Rees Howells the father, this assurance in 1987 may seem incredible. All I can say is read the Grubb biography and you will no longer use a word like incredible. The intercessions in this biography are a remarkable list. They cover the history of the second half of the 20th century. There was more happening than was in the news. This record gives insight into God's way of intervention, not instantaneous, but through people whose preparation may take years. For those who react with dismay to the news of our unfolding 21st century, this biography should reassure. There is likely more happening than is in our news. There is likely preparation of people happening now for future interventions when all the means are ready. For those who feel moved to pray about events in our news, this biography should provide guidance. Its message is clear, that effective prayer for intervention follows God's plan for the intervention, not plans we devise. This biography, and the Grubb biography, can make believers out of doubters. Neither preaches. Both describe the work of the Holy Spirit through chosen vessels, at far greater length, and with far more supporting detail, than the few verses we have in the Bible book of Acts, For those who are already believers, this biography can increase your confidence, your understanding, and your participation.

Inspiring, Challenging, Practical Guide to the life of Intercession
Iโve read Rees Howells Intercessor half a dozen times, but find it difficult to practically walk the principles. Reading this book was a fantastic and detailed look into how to live a life of intercession, not for a few weeks or months or years, but over an entire lifetime. Excellent read!
